QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 02:23 PM) I actually know someone who used to do business with Michael. He is actually more like one of us than anyone would believe when it comes to player personnel despite his affection for GarPax. "Really nice guy except for when he murders people"

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 02:07 PM) A couple of the insiders have mentioned that Angelos’ son has actively been involved in these talks and it appears that factor could increase the likelihood of a deal being completed this week. yuck. Can't imagine how much i would hate if I heard Michael Reinsdorf was influencing a package back.

When Nightengale says this stuff I typically blow it off, but when Rosenthal says it I listen. But...that just sounds sooo much like conjecture. Can't imagine sox leaking that about Anderson.

If I was a Republican senator's main backer I would be pretty pissed if they were the ones just saying they'll pass anything vs the ones acting like they will vote no (lol they won't) and getting sweet sweet concessions to me.

QUOTE (Quin @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 11:48 AM) If Machado has "only hit" for two years, I'd really like to see what an average player is. He's hit well every year since he was 20. Even last year's down year saw great power numbers. Then throw in his defense. Yeah, I mean 2014 he was injured for half the season. His age 20 season he had 51 doubles, then since 2015 he's had 30 homer power each year. You would like to see him develop more patience as he ages, but he's doing all of this with solid defense and if he provided that at SS that would be a huge advantage for as long as that is possible.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 11:32 AM) What a nice move by both teams. If people hadn't heard, Piscotty's mom was diagnosed with ALS, so he asked to be traded closer to home so he can be near her. I had not heard this, glad that was able to be worked out.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 11:26 AM) This is actually pretty fascinating. Combine this with the “rob Peter to pay Paul” comment and I feel pretty good that Kopech & Giolito are not involved in any offer. This kinda reminds me of an auction draft in fantasy sports. A good player comes up and you start bidding kinda high to not waste time, then nobody else is bidding and you start to panic. Baltimore is like "YOU ARE THE BEST OFFER" and now Hahn is like "What, NO! Probably not us. SOmeone else is gonna bid. Can't be us"

QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 11:18 AM) I can't see how you're perceiving that upon reading the tweet. You should really finish the entire tweet.

Starting to feel better.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 10:53 AM) Can you name the last few stars that have been traded the offseason before their walk year? I’m sure there are examples, but I can’t think of one other than Shark and that’s using the term loosely. Feels like teams have smartened up and are saving their chips for impact players with more control. How close was Miguel Cabrera to free agency?

Whatever happens, what a nice holiday gift from Hahn to the white sox beat writers and bloggers.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 10:48 AM) I think the Cardinals are only delaying the inevitable, I think they should be blow it up They are but also this is shown to be a terrible market to blow it up in.

I was waiting for the "Actually machado isn't that good" stage to arrive!

QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 10:34 AM) Of course. People aren't that stupid. If they're paying money for something they weren't before, they'll blame the people in power. And you can bet your ass the Dems will make that a central part of their messaging. On the other hand, it's really hard to change things back once they change. It would be much better to fight this back now so you have the legislative bandwidth to tackle bigger problems like climate change. I mean, yes, if the entire country collapsed that would look super bad for republicans but then the dems in office are in charge of rubble.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 10:40 AM) That's more than a calculated risk. Max I'd do is something like pick 2 of Rutherford/Fulmer/Cease/Dunning, and a less regarded guy like Jordan Stephens, Clarkin, or Puckett is the final piece. Anything more than that it just doesn't add up. No kidding. Funny how we devalue players so much more once they actually arrive to the show and aren't just a player comp anymore.
-
Yeah I do think Cards are doing well for a final push, obviously sucks their Stanton trade didn't work out but if Fowler bounces back that's a real nice OF. If Dejong is legit that could be a fun offense.

QUOTE (SoxSteve @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 10:23 AM) I read some earlier post's that Machado has a bad attitude and isn't a team player. Been trying to find some reports on that with no luck. Has anyone else heard that or can provide anything on pertaining to his perceived attitude? Thanx much appreciated. Sure seemed like his teammates had his back this year with all of that Red Sox mess.

St. Louis CardinalsVerified account @Cardinals 1m1 minute ago More The Cardinals have traded OF Stephen Piscotty to the Oakland Athletics for SS Yairo Muñoz and 2B Max Schrock.
-
Really hope Joseph Barrios gets voted out in March.
-
So I think at the very least we can take away that hahn is pressing that they may be interested but they aren't going to sell the farm for him but may take a risk but Kopech is probably safe and if he has his druthers sustained success.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 09:26 AM) They have to already know JR would sign off on a huge extension for this to be possible. I'm talking like 10 year/$300-$330 mill with a few opt-outs. But at this point, I would think he would wait until free agency. I do have to imagine this has been talked about.

QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 09:21 AM) It would be a gamble for them, but it’s one year of Machado, not 3 or 4. The Sox have a nice wealth of arms, and shoulders are tricky. I said Rodon and Fulmer for Machado and a prospect. Maybe add Adams too, and make a deal. It’s a good gamble for both teams. Right but I was alluding to what ss2k5 said, the orioles have declined deals for healthy players that "failed their medicals", I just can't see them approving a player that is known injured.

https://twitter.com/scotgregor/status/941324786361397248 This has been the one guy that I think of when talking about how sox are out in front, and would be really silly because what are the odds the orioles take on an injured player?

What a dumb turn these meetings took.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 09:08 AM) We can use it, we just can't use all of that on one player. This class is pretty much done. I would be very surprised if we sign anyone else this period.
