  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 04:54 PM) This is the other side of the coin. Another interesting part of this, is you can't accurately get me numbers on the deaths on the hands of police officers.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 04:54 PM) This is the other side of the coin. And I support looking at policies and ways we can reduce deaths of police officers, including charging people with crimes that injure or kill police. I, uh, also think the flip side should occur.
  3. I'm sure the fit the procedure to fit the innocence. But the reality is if the procedure ended up with a dead unarmed man who was begging for his life, there should be some major procedural changes. Except in america, where we should just say "well, they risk their lives, what's a dead innocent person or 200 a year...?" https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archiv...-punish/547868/ And isn't that always the case?
  4. Japanese baseball >> KBL and is considered a form of AAAA. Yeah, some stars from there come here and fail, but some AAA stars go to the MLB and fail too.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 04:38 PM) See that is the funny thing, that doesn't apply only to the victim. 6 minutes of dialogue. No visible weapon. Guns drawn. Yeah, when you have a gun drawn at someone, you have a bit more responsibility. Amazing. It really is comical how the trained professionals are allowed to make mistake after mistake with no consequences but the untrained civilians make a mistake and death is an appropriate consequence.
  6. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 04:33 PM) I'm 100% confident that I would never, ever make it look like i'm reaching for a gun behind my back as cops have their guns aimed at me. My hands would be open and my palms would be facing towards the cops at all times. And I think we hold cops to a higher standard, but we also recognize that we're asking them to perform jobs that are inherently dangerous, something you and I would not voluntarily do. So they get latitude in making decisions. I think far too often hindsight is used against those guys unfairly. There are clear and obvious cases of murder out there. This, IMO, is a grey area and not the slam dunk you all think it is. I think a murder conviction would have been fair, but I'm not outraged he got off given the pretty clear order that if the guy put his hand behind his back he's going to get shot. That order is INSANE after 6 minutes of opportunity to pat him down. There is no possible reason that crawling toward them makes any sense. "Hey, we are worried that you may have a weapon, so I'm going to have you do an activity where you go in motion as opposed to you lying on the ground with your hands above your head where we can come pat you down and cuff you" That situation created the murder, not the f***ing civilian who. did. nothing.
  7. I wish that when a suit comes up in civil court and a monetary penalty occurs, that both the city and individual can be found at fault and forced to pay.
  8. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 04:29 PM) I honestly was nervous for the guy just watching the video. The cop basically tells him “if you f*** up at all I’m going to shoot you” and then proceeds to play the craziest game of Simon Says ever all while having an assault rifle pointed at the suspect. I honestly think a lot of people who would have been shot in that situation which to me proves the cop is to blame for this guy losing his life. My experience of being mugged at knifepoint was that so much adrenaline shoots up you are prone to very sudden movements, i can't imagine what it's like to have 6 cops surround you with guns that clearly aren't going to engage in a clearing up of misunderstanding.
  9. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 04:20 PM) If you're that guy though, why on earth are you reaching behind your back?????? He just warned you 5 seconds prior that he would shoot you! I'm shocked he was acquitted, but would not have been shocked by a hung jury. SIX. MINUTES. SIX. MINUTES. following inane, stupid instructions. What on earth does crawling accomplish? They expect civilians from unknown distances to correctly diagnose a situation so correctly that they can take lethal action with no consequence. It's insane.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 04:11 PM) That's a win for the Cardinals ownership. Don't have to pay Stanton, but you can show the fanbase that you tried. Luis Robert. Stanton. So much winning for the cards.
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 12:32 PM) I think people occasionally give the police too much s*** over these shootings, but this one and the Minnesota one are simply unbelievable. Why couldn’t they just handcuff this dude? Why did they force him to crawl to them? They’re carrying assault rifles, if he pulled out a weapon while they approached him they would have been able to unload multiple shots before the suspect could even fire one. This guy definitely deserves a murder charge IMO. I first read this story last week from Connor Friedersdorf and I'll never watch the video. I cannot believe he was acquitted. This was not a "snap decision". They had this guy here following orders MULTIPLE times. And now the family will go to civil court, certainly get restitution from the tax payers.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 04:01 PM) Makes me think Theo needs to stop watching Ballers LOL, and also the idea that that is "pulling out all the stops".
  13. And heupel raids our offensive line coach. Great.
  14. I don't know how people read that and think "the cubs are cool" instead of "god the cubs are insufferable"
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 02:13 PM) CBOE bitcoin futures will start trading Monday. They will be cash settled, which isn't a big surprise. I can't wait for the puts. http://cfe.cboe.com/cfe-products/xbt-cboe-...-specifications Would futures trading on something like bitcoin stabilize prices in the same way futures trading helps smooth out something like commodities?
  16. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 02:57 PM) No offense but that’s absurd and a disservice to his constituents who had nothing to do with Moore getting voted in. It is not unprecedented, but I don't think this tips the scale. Where you do see it is if a governor loses legitimacy in governing, where congress refuses to send legislation where the executive would be required to enact the law.
  17. I think it's reasonable that people change minds based off of new evidence. Wikileaks came on the scene piggybacking on an opengov movement in the internet but it became clear as time went on it wasn't quite the same as uploading academic papers. This "lol libs loved it!" isn't true, there were prominent and criticisms of wikileaks from groups on the left early on. Here was a popular example: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/greg-mitchel...n_b_816197.html The handling of leaks such as panama papers and snowden compared to prominent wikileaks dumps are noticeably different, and pointing out the questionable motives, the bulls*** analysis on their twitter feed, and the completely unneccessary invasion of privacy of irrelevant private contacts in the dumps is warranted. It would be warranted even if you broadly agreed with it's theoretical radical transparency! But, I also would love to see the conclusion drawn if an email leaked from Dean Baquet or Marty Baron to Chelsea Clinton with a critical Trump piece asking her to get Hillary to mention or use it. What if they were pressing to get an ambassadorship or job? I don't know, I'm starting to think you guys may criticize that. But, I'm probably just blind in anger at Trump.
  18. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 02:15 PM) Pujols at 1B is going to be brutal, even if it is just 2-3 games a week. They'll probably just sit him. Even his bat is a net negative.
  19. QUOTE (Quin @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 02:15 PM) Big ones signed already. Maitan with angels. and Soto too.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 02:09 PM) They sent out half a dozen players to gain international cap space, and completely struck out. They also missed out on a guy like Maitan who signed before they could bring him in potentially. Meanwhile the White Sox sold off 3 sets of cap space and gained three prospects for something they weren't going to use anyways. I don't think they should apologize. He was likely worth the effort. It sucks, but this is one of those cases where the right decisions went the wrong way.
  21. Oh boy, missed initially he's signing with angels in my last response. Genuinely feel bad for mariners. Very glad it's not padres. Excited for years of Trout and Ohtani. STill don't think Angels make playoffs
  22. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 01:36 PM) The Mariners are the White Sox from 2007 until the rebuild started. Trying to be a major competitor, but never close enough. Yep, and incredible lack of depth due to consistently raiding the farm system to plug holes. (Though dipoto raids the farm system for such similar players so often it's a little unclear why)
  23. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 04:55 PM) Wow, Dee Gordon and $1mil international bonus money for just Seattle's #2 who scouts are low on and two other prospects not on their top 30. Obviously the rankings are outdated and all three could be on, but that seems relatively cheap. Makes you wonder what they are asking for Yelich and Ozuna. Well, marlins were ready to give gordon away last year. Good play by m's but I'm not shocked at all by price.
  24. QUOTE (danman31 @ Dec 6, 2017 -> 04:41 PM) Keep the faith So hard to tell the fake scouts vs real ones. Seen a few day 3 grades which makes me feel better. The NFL talking heads kept saying day 1 grade (Dilfer, etc) which seemed crazy to me. If he gets a 1st round grade he should leave.
  25. Would be interested to hear market. One of those situations where I feel like the deadline is more likely. Teams would want him at a bigger discount with a higher certainty he will be a part of a playoff push. edit: changed lower discount to bigger discount
