That's ridiculous to say they won't be fired. If this freefall continues, and Shields goes on like this, Hahn's seat will be very hot after asking to DFA Danks in order to acquire possibly the worst starter that has ever played baseball, with a contract we have to hope gets laroched. Add to that Year 4 of a rebuild going nowhere. Everything has its limits. Wasting JR's money is a quick way to test them.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 09:36 AM) Is Hahn an idiot or not? It seems every bad idea was KW's and any good one was Hahn's. Their philosophies are most likely a lot more similar than anyone who thinks every bad idea is KW's wants to believe. But they are the guys who are going to be making the decisions. So if you think either is incapable, having them trade players like Sale and Q and Abreu is insane. If your argument is that Hahn/KW should not be the ones doing the rebuild, I agree. They should both be fired for their Major League roster plan this year. But trading away some of our more valuable assets before they are not valuable anymore when we aren't going to win anyway is not a bad strategy just because the Royals were bad for a long time.

What if we do 2011? Look how many terrible players on that list. How does one ever compete with prospects? http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prosp...11/2611316.html

I still will root against Lebron, but much respect to Cleveland and just an amazing job by Lebron, best player in the universe. Kind of underscores the point that nobody should be looking for the next steph curry, the next Lebron is way more powerful. BUT, it's hilarious how people are acting like he took some middle school team to the finals to win. Remember how he left then CLE inexplicably won every lottery opportunity and were able to trade excess talent for Love? How they were basically given shumpert and JR smith? Lebron has had a very good team this entire decade. Last years finals was the only time you saw him with absolute crap.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 09:04 AM) A first, LMAO. I just said draft and develop players better. Don't be scared to blow through the international spending, sign a free agent here and there. It's a lot better option than having someone you don't think understands the game and can't identify talent trading away any talent on the roster. But maybe you are part of the group of Sox fans that actually prefers losing. If they are broke, the rebuild will look more like the Royals and Pirates, that takes 20-30 years. Pretty sure people don't want Hahn/KW in charge of rebuild, as has been stated. But, I'm sure anyone that advocates firing hahn is an idiot, because everyone knows that some teams have fired their GM and gotten WORSE, so we should definitely never do any action. There is a whole encyclopedia of times where teams tried and failed so, too risky. We should deifnitely just wait for a draft that won't affect the team for 3 years to add on to our nice fore of 34 year old star players. Much safer. Look at how great the winning we are experiencing is.Rebuilds feature so much losing, the sox winning ways have really been much more fun.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 08:56 AM) But if they have failed, giving them a project where failure is quite likely MAKES NO SENSE. Rebuilds fail more than not. There have been exceptions, but not many, and if people really want the Sox to be like the Cubs, 35k people have to show up to games when they are losing 95 plus for 4 or 5 years in an row. Great, I can't wait for Dick Allen's own well thought out personal opinion on the future of the franchise. When that comes it will be a first. I don't even know who "They" is in your post, I"m not advocating KW/Hahn get a second crack at a rebuild they half-assed nad wasted 3 years on. You don't need to trade every good player, but there is no way in my eyes we are closer to the playoffs by keeping all of our players nad trying to "add-on" with zero budget and prospects, then unloading some value pieces to start to come up with Anderson and hopefully Collins, Burdi, Fulmer, Adams and whoever else we get. This team is razor thin, not that talented, and broke. Seems so much more promising than rebuilding.

Finished the book. Really kinda sad at the end. If I didn't before, I'm going to cherish even more the odd player that probably has no pro future getting a call up for a couple days. What these players put on hold just to do what they love is crazy. It would be inspiring except, you know, mortgage and stuff.

Robin Ventura should definitely, certainly be fired today

I would hire lebron as player coach. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 08:37 AM) The Sox suck, they haven't made the playoffs in blah, blah, blah. Hahn and KW are horrible. They don't know what they are doing. Here's how you fix it. Have the guys you don't think you know what they are doing trade away all their good players for prospects. That will work out perfectly. Another 10-20 years of daily whining. All you need to know about prospects is to go back to the Matt Davidson thread. He was called the best available 3rd base prospect. A can't miss. Hahn was praised for his new core which included Davidson and Avi Garcia. A guy the main concern was to avoid the super 2. That cost Addison Reed. A loss, but not a Chris Sale, Q type loss. Keep the good players. Draft better. Sign foreign free agents. Develop better. Learn how to make decent trades. Blow it up is not wise. Yeah, he was a good prospect, failed. That's the problem with trying to do a rebuild where you rely on every piece working out. Part of the trading away our talent that likely won't be good when we actually make the playoffs is to get a LOT of talent, so you can handle a davidson not working out. But that obviously doesn't fit your reflexive anti-strawman arguments. DA, you know this front office has failed. The people pointing it out aren't wrong. We have traded more major league talent than we've brought in and are basically the same team. There is no great cavalry coming up in the next two years to plug our gaps. At some point you have to weigh what is faster to get to the playoffs, acquiring a bunch of young pieces and let them develop 2 yeras before supplementing them with ML pieces, or dumpster diving for vets after you've alreayd maxed out your budget because your core is so good that it makes you look like your continued fourth and fifth place finishes are a fluke.

**SPOILER THREAD** GAME OF THRONES ** SPOILER THREAD **
bmags replied to TaylorStSox's topic in SLaM
That was pretty gruesome. I like that even though the Starks beat the Boltons and have winterfell, it was not a fistpump hell yes moment. They made sure you knew the exact costs of doing that. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 06:58 AM) I mean, he rises to the moment and gets those blocked shots and steals...but he doesn't put 100% consistent effort out there in every game on the defensive side, not even the playoffs. Jordan would step on your neck and wouldn't take a possession off defensively until the other team's will to compete had utterly been crushed. Now you can argue that he needs to reserve his energy for the offensive side, where he's more of a playmaker/distributor and responsible for running the offense in a way that Jordan never was, at least until the last 3-4 minutes of a close game. Lebron literally runs their entire defense. They are only good at defense due to him

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 12:00 AM) NBA is just terrible now. This series sucked and the final 8 minutes of this game it was a bunch of 1 on 1 over and over again. Most of those shots were horrible LOL man these posts are so predictable and bad. "So sick of the Warriors just chucking threes NBA is so bad now." "So sick of NBA just a bunch of 1-on-1 now" You just don't like basketball, move along

We need another 3-4 elite players (4+ WAR) but we have a maxed out budget and keep expecting to make it up by signing / trading for 6 1.5 WAR players and it's not working

How is it possible that Quintana has bad luck this long
bmags replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
We have 100% turnover since 2013 on offense. This is just ridiculous. -
Theories welcome. I'm at a loss. Hard to enjoy someone that never results in wins, I hate our offense for it, but we're on like 100% turnover now. Edit: not anti Q, just flabbergasted by this

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jun 17, 2016 -> 03:31 PM) But if you're a psycho intent on mass killings you're clearly not worried about legal consequences so... Except you can't really arrest these people on anything prior to their murder. If you are going to prevent these deaths without changing any rules in regard to the tools they use, then there needs to be some regulateable behavior. This would make weapons with high capacity/rapid fire harder to get, and if hacked, would be something to arrest them on if found/warrant created.
-
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jun 17, 2016 -> 03:25 PM) Um, you mean like the laws that make it illegal to shoot people? It's not illegal to own a gun. It would be illegal to have a gun outside the restrictions set.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 17, 2016 -> 03:07 PM) What kind of background checks are you referring to? because you do go thru one now with the NICS. Antis always scream about 'universal background checks' as if nobody ever gets checked and I would wager that most have no clue what they mean or are asking for. So a real question, what are you referring to? Background check people want to extend it to private sales. I don't care about background checks. I would prefer a much more thorough credit score like system that would never get implemented Long rambling facebook post? Knock to your gun credit score Drunk in Public? Knock to your gun credit score Domestic Violence charge? astronomical knock. Credit score drops below 650, state takes your gun, pays you interest for time held. If your gun credit score improves you get gun back and on probation until you get out of the yellow zone. There are versions of this that could be especially helpful, like colorful yellow bracelets that say "Hey, I just got my gun back, but I'm the yellow zone".

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 17, 2016 -> 02:59 PM) Even the laws that are made are weak because it's not federal. Oh, so you make it hard to buy a gun in Chicago/IL? If only there wasn't a bunch of neighboring states within an hour or two that have no such laws. :| As for gun crime...if you nationalize ALL gun crime and make sentences mandatory WITHOUT parole, the gun violence issue will resolve itself to a great degree. As it stands, some states have weak laws -- and even states that have strong ones, we have judges that are way to lenient and/or don't care...and even when sentenced for 2 years, they'll do less than one and be out of the street again. Gun crime needs to become known as a one and done issue...get caught with an illegal gun, even if you didn't use it in a crime...say goodbye. I agree with you, it needs to be done federally, with Chicago as a great example. The second part I'm not sure how that could be handled. I don't think all gun crime could be handled under federal jurisdiction

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 17, 2016 -> 02:57 PM) Now that's simply not true. There are still restrictions on e.g. automatic weapons, short-barreled shotguns. NY state was still able to pass an "assault weapons ban," and that's held up in court so far without a problem. How is it possible that a hand gun ban could be struck down under heller but an assault weapons ban would not?
-
QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 17, 2016 -> 02:41 PM) The 2nd Amendment doesn't need to be overturned. We've already accepted that laws can be made that restrict gun ownership. To those that say look at the person. Why do we have so many people in the US who use guns to kill so many people compared to the rest of the world? But laws haven't been made, and previous laws that were made were overturned under a new view of the 2nd amendment as unencroachable. Any restrictions are unconstitutional.
-
I agree with you that it isn't going to happen, but people actually advocating for it to happen puts appropriate pressure. When the only pressure is background checks, it's easy to stall. When background checks are the lesser of pressures from people actually wanting to buy back all guns (me), it may finally start doing something.
-
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 17, 2016 -> 02:37 PM) Part of the problem is also what's in the public eye. The public often goes after the low hanging fruit even if it makes little sense in the grand scheme of things. While everyone seems to be clamoring for the ban of "assault style weapons", in reality, handguns are the cause of FAR more deaths than AR-15's. And it's not even close. Odds are the second amendment isn't getting overturned...SO, it's time we turned our attention to consequences (this will curb violent gang related shootings) AND make guns WAYYYYYYYYYYY f***ing harder to get, even for law abiding citizens if need be. At least then, while the law abiding among us may have to wait a bit longer, they'll still get the damned gun...but maybe then we can keep some of these out of the hands of the violent/mentally ill/crazy f***faces that ruin s*** for everyone else. Would you support that at federal level?
-
This blocking of US agencies from researching gun violence is step 1. I'd be fine with stalling the poor dem senate bill if we are just finally allowed to study it.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 17, 2016 -> 02:01 PM) This is a killer book, one of the best baseball books I've ever read. I've got Ben Lindbergh coming to our ballpark for an event on Sunday, I'm excited to pick his brain about it a bit. That's awesome. Let us know how it goes. I'm basically at the point now where they are finally implementing serious shifts and new theories. Can' t believe this player in the league that homers like every at bat. So insane.
