QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 09:54 AM) So for those who have regularly seen his at bats, is he swinging at everything, or is he just not taking any walks. The good walkers lay-off pitches just outside the zone that are hittable. It's better to lay off than to try to hit them in general, but you can still be productive. Now if he's swinging at balls in the dirt and stuff, then there could be issues. I like Anderson at leadoff because it pushes Eaton down to #2 and Eaton is the best hitter for the 2 hole on this roster. He's also the best hitter for the 1 hole, but I think the 2 hole gap was much greater. I've seen him layoff some pretty wicked breaking stuff. He was completely fooled by the knuckleball last week, however. It's more that if he's getting a fastball in the zone, he's swinging at it. He has been prone to high fastballs though. he has a bat that can take a few of em but hopefully that's one he can learn to layoff of.

I don't want us to take on long term contracts, but I wouldn't mind kicking the tires on Patrick Beverley, assuming availability rumors are true. Morey will want assets though, and we are not a team that should be trading them.

I do worry that with his lack of walks it doesn't take much to slump. He's having lots of multi hit games, a few 0fers in a row and that line will be ugly. I'm not concerned though. I think his mental buildup is that he needs to know he can hit MLB pitching, then he starts looking for the right pitches and will walk at a low, but tolerable amount hopefully (at least 6%).

I'd rather trade Mirotic but oh well. See what happens in ATL with horford, if they lose him they may be a good candidate.

That was very gratifying. Well done. -
QUOTE (scs787 @ Jun 26, 2016 -> 05:40 PM) What is the general consensus on Bobby Portis? I admit that I probably only watched 5 games all year last season so I didn't see a lot. I did however watch a few of his big games on youtube and came away pretty impressed.... How is his defense? He started strong but had some major lulls. There was also so much miscommunication on defense last year it's hard to know. He had a good motor and showed good rebounding skills, but his shooting was incredibly inconsistent. I think his defense was fine, but hard to know.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 25, 2016 -> 05:53 PM) Hub Arkush who probably pukes anytime he gives the Bears a compliment, says they have gone from the worst inside LBs in the league to the best. Hub is annoying, but I do check myself with him. It was him entering the Emery years pushing the Bears to blow it up, that their only talent was aging and nothing was behind it. I obviously wanted a winner and thought he was being a p-----. But he was right. He has certain things he harps on, but across the league he seems to have a pretty good gauge on depth and talent level, more than me anyway. NFL is too big with too many players, hard to keep track. I feel like the Bears are much improved, but I don't know compared to what.

I continue to be floored by a couple of things outside of the actual decision: - That major banks and financial businesses did not seem to conduct their own polling to help hedge any leave decision - That there have been no think tanks or teams that have outlined any vision for what the exit may have looked like This HAD been a discussion for 2 years. It's striking to me that it appears as if no institutions bothered to assume leave was a possibility. To hear them talk right now, this is starting from zero.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 26, 2016 -> 05:24 PM) A more useful stat might be the number of pitches used in the 2015 and 2016 innings to actually see if there is a bearing on keeping him healthier since that was the whole point of pitching to contact. Agree. Stressful pitches as well.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 26, 2016 -> 03:11 PM) I would think the Sabes people would say he's been valuable. An old fashioned stat like batting average doesn't matter much anymore. He produces runs and hits home runs consistently unlike Dunn who hit 'em in bunches. BUt for a man of his speed to have so few doubles says a lot about how true it is that he only is hitting home runs. Dunn didn't hit a lot of doubles but he was also slow.

The power that Tim Anderson has shown makes me very optimistic.

I just would like to know who the wizard coach was that could exceed the chicago bulls production so much better than their talent level that they would win the championship. Look at the rosters of the last 6 nba finals teams. Look at the best of the bulls. The Bulls never had the most talented roster. His teams couldn't score in the playoffs? A lot of teams can't score in the playoffs. And the offense got worse without him. Told me all I needed to know. His offenses weren't good because the players weren't that good offensively. He took them as far as they could go. The problem with the pistons and the bulls was not Tom Thibodeau and Frank Vogel. You deserve what you get as a franchise when you make that leap of logic. The bulls weren't a coach away, their coach was so good they were thinking they were a coach away. They were a superstar away. But luxury tax.

He said all the right things.

QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 24, 2016 -> 03:16 PM) Not to mention he has chronic foot problems as well. Of course, most big men do but his slowed him down even more when he had knee issues. Maybe he has magically been healed and he is giving teams a good medical to look at but I am sure not buying it. And I love Jo. Don't underestimate the amount of good that can happen from leaving the bulls medical staff.

Maybe, maybe not. He started to look pretty good right before his injury.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 11:30 PM) I'd rather he not start. I think what he has working for him is his insane velocity, which could very well be diminished if he has to throw more pitches in a given outing Maybe. But he could also be a 96-97 mph fastball pitcher with a plus slider and plus changeup.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 24, 2016 -> 02:03 PM) What I find particularly interesting is that I think you're generally right with the "scare the crap out of anyone" part, but your answer for the why is "more important to mock your opponents" and I think that's 100% as much being in denial as what you try to condemn. I think this is a complete failure to acknowledge the major driving force - actual economic grievances. The provinces that voted strongly for this, away from the financial center in London that has grown rapidly, are people who have had 5 years of 2 recessions followed by the Austerity program. They've had health benefits and jobs cut as the Conservative government cut its budget, and the only place that was growing at that time was a financial center/industry. I don't know, I'm not sure I agree. The more they poll the anti immigration furor doesn't even overlap with "economic anxiety". Many people are very anti-immigration. And I don't even think it's a "they are taking our jobs" as much as thread of changing of values.

Yeah they can't do all that in one episode. I think we'll get about 10 minutes of winterfell clean up, 10 minutes of dany cleanup, and 35 minutes of trial -
Man that franchise just doesn't know how to get over the hump. OTOH, Noah works best when you have a slashing PG he can clean up for and is allowed to play center. But yes, that certainly makes Lopez contract look good. I'll think of that every second of our 40-42 season.
-
I don't mind it much in rounds 30+, but I still don't like it. There are a lot of players who would kill for chance to play even 2 weeks in affiliate ball. It's kind of mocking them.

QUOTE (Nixon @ Jun 24, 2016 -> 12:03 PM) I don't think Cersei would kill Tommen either. It's either some collateral issue where he like runs in to save Marge or he's so despondent after losing her to the flames that he drinks Qyburn's entire inventory of Milk of the Poppy. I don't know that she'll be directly responsible for killin him, but I predict that it happens in a way that Jaime blames her and he kills cersei or something like that. What a show.
