  1. You would think so, but that wouldn't explain putting two vomit level players at DH when your offense is already below average.
  2. That entire first paragraph had nothing to do with anything I'm talking about. If after the 2005 world series when revenues went up, we said increased our budget by that much in the draft, consistently, then we would be in much, much better shape. That's probably even more than we need. And you know what, I don't give a damn about having the pitching staff that we do if it doesn't make the playoffs. I don't really have any positive feelings about 03. It's one thing to have a great ball club that hits a wall in the playoffs. It's an entirely different thing to have a really great pitching staff that can't get one of the 1-2 open spots in a 5 club division, especially one of the weaker ones.
  3. at the very least, we learned through this debacle (as emmitt smith says, we got debacled) that the unknown twitter source is, in fact, not reliable. And we slowly widdle away.
  4. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 03:53 AM) Screw the video game crap KW is working in the real world with a real budget. You cannot feasibly put the best players at each position. If you do this you will be just average with average players at each position. When you must adhere to a budget you need to pick and choose where to spend your money. KW chose to spend his money on the pitching. The group of players you mention except for Damon are DHs. The Sox want to go with pitching and defense because that is where they spent their money to be very good in one aspect of the game. THey do not want more one dimensional DH players. They are not focusing on offensive only players. He said "best players you can" And a big problem here is that we have not been able to develop league average players to plug into positions so you aren't paying big major league deals at so many offensive positions when you are on a budget. Only beckham and Quentin qualify as such. While this isn't a problem specific to this offseason, it just shows that allocating 5 million more in the draft can save millions more on the major league roster. And so we hope that these players in the minors are actually talented enough to plug into those holes in the future so we can afford to keep our quentin's and beckhams.
  5. QUOTE (WCSox @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 02:28 AM) Neither will the Sox if they don't start winning. If they put up two more .500-ish seasons with $100M payrolls, Kenny very well may pull the plug and deal Peavy, Rios, etc. and start over with the pieces that he gets in return. When the Twins are consistently kicking your ass with 2/3 of the payroll, it's time to rethink your strategy. This is my point, yes. Thanks.
  6. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 02:15 AM) By this definition, the Royals have a team full of holes. Is that fair? Yes. They also don't have a 100 million dollar payroll.
  7. that's really nobodies fault but his own though.
  8. If we put a really small log into LF, who might get on base because of his/her strike zone, is this a hole? edit: its
  9. because it's a direct judgment of the management of the chicago white sox.
  10. It's not a contradiction at all. KW made this team the way it is, and when you are spending 100 million already and have the best pitching staff of your life it's good value to spend another 5 mill on a DH to help further ensure a pennant. I think the solution is that the sox much earlier on should've put a lot more money into the draft and player development. We'd be in a lot better shape if we did. We haven't...and so we only have andy gonzalez's to plug into our system when we can't afford half of the veterans salary.
  11. I mean, if we could have him for free the way this thread seems set up. Or GARY GLOVER
  12. QUOTE (WCSox @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 01:32 AM) Funny, the Twins have holes in their offense as well, yet they manage to win the division most of the time. What's our excuse? I think it's "you can afford to have holes when you have 2 fantastic hitters and other good hitters" as opposed to "you can't afford to have holes when you have average production from others"
  13. QUOTE (WCSox @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 01:25 AM) It's called adhering to a budget. Most teams can't spend $60M on their pitching staff, over-pay guys like PK, Rios, and Jenks, and round out every other position with $6M+/yr veterans like Damon and Matsui. The Yankees and Red Sox can, but the White Sox can't. And until the Sox become an elite revenue team, that isn't going to change any time soon. You are missing the point. Our budget is 100 mill and with that budget we have gigantic holes on the team.
  14. Yeah "pulling the offer" is really strange language. But nonetheless the nail is in the coffin as far as I'm concerned. Seriously, someone buy a. jones some nice, nice steroids, plz.
  15. I'm sorry, I didn't read the article. I was under the impression it was already filmed.
  16. that said...our military is amazing. Give them any military objective and they can achieve. But not everything we need is a military objective. I see no political solutions that will occur in afghanistan anytime soon.
  17. Bravo, marines.
  18. Yeah, okay, I don't really mind this move by KW. BUt that doesn't change the fact that going into the season with 1 below avg. LFer at leadoff, another question mark at 3b, and a DH combo that is probably worse than sticking carlos zambrano there is brutal. When you look at every move in a vacuum you might say what could we have done? But, the fact is we have a 100 mill payroll in a division that is pretty easy to win, and for 4 years we've had one playoff birth. Now we have the best pitching staff by far in the division. Not winning it is absolutely despicable. And with this offense it'll be a real struggle to win. It's a shame.
  19. I would be more interested in this if it focused around the trade deadline or the draft.
  20. this isn't a classic reality show. It's not just sticking normal people that want to be famous for 3 months into an INTERESTING situation!!!!!!!! It's more like a TV documentary. I doubt they'll be making KW and Ozzie do scavenge hunts to see who will be kicked off the show first.
  21. QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 07:35 PM) Huh? detrot is empty. it's too large of a city for the populace.
  22. think about how much money he can save on drinks when there are actually people here to buy them for him. Penny saved is a penny earned.
  23. Yes, but our contract guarantees that you will in fact see people walking around in the city
  24. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 06:13 PM) indeed Rad, that was gonna be one of the biggest things I miss down here, but glad I have a place to go to get it. Calabresa ftw
