Gene Honda Does The Oscars!
I agree. I thought casino was too long and I really only enjoyed seeing pesci kicking ass on screen again. The departed held my attention much more, due in large part to jack nicholson.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 06:18 AM) are they still being touted? the Reader was constantly pushing them a couple years ago, i heard their cd and thought it totally sucked. all i've ever heard was labor days, and i love it. I can see his voice being annoying though. I'm not gonna really back them, just a cd i like to throw on. bobdylan, you make up some great points. I hate the chronic. snoop dogg is weak as s*** on lyrics and so is dre. I mean, i always liked wu-tang clan and tribe, just recently got into the genre more. Gza-liquid swords might be my fav. hip hop produced album. i don't know where i'm going with this, just that i think there's some real cool stuff in hip hop right now, and theres stuff that's just fun pop music to throw on. I don't really mind either, there's more teeth in the pop hip hop i listen to than the pop rock going on right now.

Gene Honda Does The Oscars!
i think the only part of the departed i really hated was the whole "is she pregnant with his baby?" because it really was just kind of tacked on.

QUOTE(Brian @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 04:57 AM) Helen Mirren wins best actress. It seems a lot of actors/actress' are getting awards for playing someone who is/was real. I'd rather see more original performances to start winning. Philip Seymour Hoffman had to win. Jamie Fox did a good impression on Ray Charles. We have seen his other work and he isn't really that talented as an actor. I would be ok with lesser known portrayals of real people such as Theron in Monster. the task of impersonating one of the most visible figures of the 20th century is not an easy one. I haven't seen it but it appears she did it well.

that performance was terrible. Three singers trying to sing way too many notes. Plus i thought dream girls was gonna have some funky motown songs not gospel songs.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 03:55 AM) Dude, why reccommend artists everyone has heard of? I never listen to rap and I know all those artists. In fact, I try to AVOID that music, but it's IMPOSSIBLE not to hear it at some point or another. Not trying to offend. But, can I ask what you see in the mainstream rap? I've heard some decent "underground" stuff, but I just can't find the appeal in the mainstream stuff. Perhaps you can explain the appeal? Oh, oh...and...what do the other rappers rap about? Wizards, swords and science fiction? being that i like rick ross, clipse, nas, three 6 mafia, T.I., ghostface, all of wu etc. i can tell you the appeal is that it is fun for me to listen to. I also like underground rap like edan, mf doom (gettin big now), aesop rock, etc, and i can tell you i like them because of the dirtier beats. oh and i like juelz santana.

Coop on w/ Mike North this AM
if he ever actually talked about sports and had any opinions that the avg fan didn't already have he might be tolerable, but he's far too stupid to try and pull the politics card that he starts every morning with.

well, i mean like them or not, them and the strokes have defined the 00's sound as far as the music i listen to. Everyone wants to be the arcade fire now, and they've had some real kickass songs i think.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Feb 24, 2007 -> 10:20 PM) By the way, I believe Arcade Fire is the muscial guest on SNL tonight. I don't understand the hypeat all, but if you like em', go nuts. i love em. And i've stopped saying 'hype' with indie bands because i realized the hype is for like .9% of americans. Hype would be better designated for chinese democracy

there is a music thread, and furthermore, the CYHSY album is challenging to the ears because its atrocious. i'd rather listen to roseanne sing the national anthem.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 08:33 PM) If you arent used to the commercials by now, dont watch tv. They revealed that the survivors that were captured were not killed, but made to "watch." They revealed that only work is done on the small island, and they usually dont even like coming there they revealed that Ethan was their old surgeon they revealed that there was someone other than Ben in charge of certain things they revealed what Jack's tat means and where it came from they revealed many of those people grew up there and didnt come from or have never seen the "real world." i cant even think of what else. I thought it was an awesome episode with a great lead in to the next one what do you mean by made to watch? they were there to watch the court. Again, we knew they didn't live on the small island from the first episode. Revealing things about ethan at this point is just thrown out there for no reason, he's a character from 2 seasons ago and adds nothing important to the story line anymore. And honestly who cares about jack's tattoos or the terrible acting of the asian woman?
