He was good at letting you know what the bulls weren't going to do even if the fans wanted it to happen and it was a good idea.

Not sure it is a good idea but John Collins is only other "guy" imo. but collins and Vuc would be ...interesting defensively.

Not sure we can count the Derozan chickens before they hatch after the moves the SAS made yesterday. I am completely rejuvenated though by watching the FO yesterday. Talent-wise, it's not much different than I expected. But showcasing how player contracts can be converted into exceptions and S&Ts to create more flexibility makes me feel like we are finally able to move forward. It was completely disorienting after watching how the bulls operate seeing how the Heat, with no cap space, just signed Jimmy Butler and forced a S&T. it's like wait, you don't need to just dismantle the team to the studs to make room for a player? you aren't completely ruined when you decide to sign Kirk Hinrich for 3 million and take you out of a max? Amazing.

Shirley on the Draft via the Athletic
Just an excellent set of insights. I really like Shirley - so please please don't suck at your evals. He's a fantastic interview, and really helpful in explaining things like why them talking about athleticism matters. Here's an excerpt I liked: That's really interesting! And sox are right or wrong, so really like getting that point of view. https://theathletic.com/2737696/2021/08/02/how-the-white-soxs-draft-strategy-shifted-in-2021-with-picks-like-wes-kath-sean-burke/

8/2 Games
I think everytime I try to really dive deep into a hot take on intl it's so hard because overall now...Yolbert looks like there is a good shot he becomes a MLer. Yolquie really did add power. So ... if you compare the ML production sox will look good, esp with Abreu etc. But what we dislike about it also isn't wrong, it is causing depth issues. I think what makes me most uneasy about it is currently the sox drafting and intl resembles the same strategy rather than being complementary. Some orgs now are relying on INTL to add the young, high upside position players while the draft they are adding more advanced skills for depth out of the draft. CLE is an example of this (however, not exact fit - they also add extremely young players through the draft). Maybe you could say the sox are adding that more highly skilled depth out of Cuba since they are older and more likely to provide MLB depth. But the issue I have is if Shirley is going to use the draft to try and maximize top 50 guys on his board at the expense of more top 250 guys, and Paddy is going to use INTL to target 1-2 high likelihood guys at the expense of a larger class...then we have very little room for error. They just both have to be right which is unlikely no matter how good you are. Yet - we also have to factor that Paddy during the penalty years may have added some real depth in Jose Rodriguez, Ramos, etc. In fact the post-penalty years have seemed far less helpful but we will see. It's just a really complicated answer that definitely has successes but feels risky.

At this point it looks likely we can still use the MLE as well as whatever a Lauri may provide, as well as vet mins. And ... simonovic

I get the theis love, he was the only nice part about the last 20 games last year. That said, having multiple good perimeter defenders needed to happen IMO more than Theis. Maybe Caruso offensively won’t do enough, but he is so good defensively, I had no idea bulls had him on radar.

Man Guzman has been awful. 8 walks in 2 innings tonight. I was so excited based off his 16 yo season, still a long way to go. Please please give me something new in AZL.

Yeah even though I don’t know how it works out, nothing about signing ball with what they paid or traded for him prevents a long term shift if they just can’t work with Zach and Vuc are such duds together

they weren't bringing Lauri back with Vucevic so it's all golden there. If the bulls rebuild, it's going to be if this year is a disaster and getting 2022 1st rounders is nice. They are pot-committed now.

DeRozan would need to play wing while Patrick Williams hopefully develops some aggression. I don't think it's an amazing fit, but because Zach has range, and because Vucevic has range, and maybe Ball's streaky 3pg is real, that should give DeRozan room to work. I think he was attractive in how he played in SA more than Toronto. But yeah...can 4 top 26-35 players win an nba championship? lol.

Yeah I think because of Zach Lavine's desire for a deal, the thought is they would basically ship off things that have salary and use remaining budget for zach and then rely on exemption + min deals.
