  1. Zevala is not a major league catcher. There is no shortage of better defensive catchers that can’t hit.
  2. I hope they ask him “will you become Corey Seager”
  3. I think McClure is big “RH MRP” bait
  4. mike rizzo is hard not to like.
  5. I'm not sure there is an easy answer to this. Getz has clearly modernized player development and kept up with the technology that flooded that field in the last 5 years. All teams have though and I don't know that it's ahead or behind anyone. He hired Ben Hansen as a senior biomechanical engineer, and he was credited with finding velo for McClure and Pilkington. He has since left. But the thing is he came from Motus Global which he helped found and was a company that created wearables, which the sox were a client. So it isn't easy to just add up the number of analysis or sciencey titles in the sox F.O., they may just outsource more than others and that's not necessarily bad. Katz came from SF which had been great at "using data" in their pitching staff success. They hired Ryan Johansen from Johansen Baseball who uses blast motion and other monitors for hitters and he is the sox assistant hitting coordinator and integrates that stuff to all of the instructors. Jake Burger was reported a darling of the sox because of the trackman data available on him at Mo. State and I believe there was similar info on sheets since WF had it but that's fuzzy. You have this year's 5th round pick who was put on the map due to great spin rates on his slurve. So sox are clearly integrating all of these known techniques, but also aren't just a team that has a model spit out their draft picks. I don't know that there is a baseball team other than the rockies that would be considered "behind the times" now.
  6. Left-handed bats are good because they hit right handed pitching, but Marte hits right handed pitching better than left handed pitching, but both above average. I too don't think we go OF, but his offensive value would be welcome.
  7. dude only played 61 games in 2020, totally injury prone.
  8. People hyperventilating over his cost. He's a 2b, he's nice and versatile, but when people are like "I'll just get Jonathan Schoop instead" you aren't an incredible market maker.
  9. Maybe, but there is no shortage of middle infielders right now. He's a 32-year old top 15 second baseman.
  10. I kinda wonder...Burger package for Merrifield with how burger has looked at third. Dozier is trash. Witt is about to come up to SS, Lopez weak bat can be more tenable at 2b and then Pratto comes in at 1b. I don't know of a great 3b coming in for them, and Merrifield has 2 years remaining. His speed and versatility make him an easy fit for next year in the same vein as Frazier but longer track record. Having Robert-TA-Merrifield in a lineup really adds a baserunning dimension, and sox have traded with royals moreso than others it has felt like. But boy that would be nervewrecking.
  11. yeah I fully agree with this.
  12. Sewald's results are absurd but I kinda don't believe in how long it could last. Just a 2-pitch mix relying on horizontal movement seems like pitchers eventually figure out what's coming.
  13. From Fegan, pretty honest, scary recounting of his rehab. Sounds like having eloy was a big help to keeping him sane: "“First, I spent a month without walking,” Robert said. “Then I started walking little steps. Then when I started running, I was afraid because I couldn’t run 100 percent and I was afraid of, man, I am going to lose one of my best tools. I was concerned in that moment about it. But then my body started reacting in a good way and I started feeling much better.”" https://theathletic.com/2716617/2021/07/19/luis-robert-cleared-for-rehab-assignment-as-white-sox-near-return-to-full-strength/
  14. AZL and DSL are so boring this year.
  15. Said to myself "hey maybe yankees would just dump an underperforming lemahieu for salary relief" not realizing they'd signed him for SIX YEARS lol oh man, my favorite thing about the yankees that Cashman is forced to deal with is the clear expectation that he's not ever allowed to let a player leave.
  16. Hmm, in a jokey not at all real way Grant Bisbee mentioned Cards trading Gallegos and I keep forgetting the cards are having a bad year, and that seems like a pretty good target, no? fangraphs.com/players/giovanny-gallegos/14986/stats?position=P
  17. Cool thanks. I'm pretty refreshed. When Grandal went down I probably would have panicked. But Sox continuing to win while they bridged the injuries to Eloy and Robert puts them in a much better position. If sox are greenlit to take on salary, we should be able to add relief pitching with giving up very little. And how sweet that is coming out of an all star game which saw numerous former unheralded sox call-ups now playing as all-stars elsewhere. If our depth allows us to finally no longer need to rob peter to pay paul, we allow ourselves to be available to pounce on a true star upgrade when one fits. I really wanted Bryant 4 weeks ago. We don't need Bryant now. I think the dumbest thing I would do is if ATL raises the flag kick the tires on Morton and see if taking on his remaining salary takes care of a lot of the prospect burden while allowing us to move to a 6-man rotation to ensure we have our best staff for the playoffs. Anyway I have no idea, but I trust sox to get something. I have been looknig for relievers, and we have bummer so this doesn't make sense, but holy crap look at this guys insane stats: https://www.fangraphs.com/players/richard-bleier/7803/stats?position=P
  18. I apologize for grifting but if anyone has espn+ and could send the sox blurb from passan would be appreesh pm me thnx.
  19. I don't know man, imagine if we replaced leury garcia's usage with Adam Frazier for the next 2 years.
  20. Burger had a 24% k rate in AAA after that layoff. We are talking about 36 PAs after an insane jump in competition. I don't think it's a concern yet. I've actually been feeling recently that we seem much more even in rhp v lhp mainly due to collins/sheets vs rhp and a lack of some of the oomph we had with eloy/robert/grandal. Sheets bat really is nice but he's not close to Vaughn as a fielder, and so it comes down to Goodwin's versatility and still good production vs. RHP to Sheets thumping. Overall, I would have never guessed any handwringing here. Just a great job by pretty much everyone except Nick Williams and Adam Eaton.
  21. Well I guess you aren't bringing toddlers to the game often.
  22. Man that Schwarber resurging Nats storyline died a rather quick death. Love so many of their players.
  23. Not that it's particularly exciting to see the first pitch but I believe sox first round pick Colson Montgomery is throwing out first pitch tonight.
  24. I didn't realize Robert's diagnosis was updated, that's nice to hear. I still can't get over how I've never seen Robert in person. I can't freaking wait.
