  1. that stuff never pays off.
  2. I am astounded by this. Just a whiplash of absurdity and sadness. Well, and anger. Seeing the pictures, it's infuriating. This isn't storming buckingham palace with some semblance of hallowed ground, or whatever I don't give a shit about the monarchy. But that building belongs to us and is a shrine to the millions of americans in history who just try to make it work even when it isn't working. And it just takes so little to trash it. And the other side is just being gobsmacked looking at this insurrection and them holding the American flags and calling themselves patriots. It's a day. You know it's coming and then it happens, and it sucks.
  3. A blue-city mayor bringing in law enforcement resources to get order into property under Trump's purview is just great content. Except for the whole assault on the republic stuff.
  4. This is a profoundly sad day. It will be fruitless, but still sad. To be honest, if you ran the trump presidency 100 times, I'm not sure this isn't even one of the better timelines. It is very dangerous giving someone this job who so clearly does not give a shit about the country beyond its power.
  5. All the more incredible because of 9/11. It is shocking partly of how easily this was done, but the imagery beggars belief.
  6. thankfully, Maryland and VA national guard appear to be mobilized. I'm not sure how there can be an objection to DC statehood on any grounds other than balance of power posturing.
  7. If that happens though at least it won’t be a hard contract to lose. But I feel like Hendriks will still be excellent next year and may be worth it
  8. I have more sympathy for Coby just because I feel like he's more naturally a shooting guard, is young, and point guard is really hard on young guards. I dont' think long-term he is the number one ball handler on a good team. I think the starting PG issue for one is he's not working as hard on finishing, seemsl ike when a layup will be too contested he's just distributing. Not bad for a PG to do, but he also needs to be better at finishing. WCJ came in doing a lot of little things right. He still does a lot of that stuff right, but he doesn't seem stronger, his shot hasn't gotten better, but he also hasn't learned anymore moves. I am looking forward to Sato getting back, he really did look better under this system. Williams is interesting. Sometimes he looks like he can't get by a SF on a drive, then sometiems he just explodes by someone. I think he is getting great experience, I'm hoping by end of year we really have a better idea of his skillset. For now I think he's getting used to speed/playing within team. Pretty freakin tough to not have any meaningful training camp or summer league.
  9. Weird, why did I think Billy Beane stepped down this year? Didn't he make some deal with the red sox?
  10. Yeah I think they make this trade. The judiciary is going to be such that I'm not sure large scale programs that regulate an industry a la Healthcare are going to be able to rely on the commerce clause again. The corporate rate is going to be firmly near where it is now. Regardless of whether biden is capable of rising it to 28%, they got it down to 20 without any tradeoffs. So they set traps that will make liberal wins excruciating to achieve, and in reality they probably enjoy being in the minority anyway where they can just complain about stuff without being responsible to fix it.
  11. The noticeable thing last few weeks has been so many scorers in double digits. I obviously missed this game and was shocked when I saw teh score update. I went to bed with them down 20. Really glad they fought back because in those games vs. pacers/hawks they just crumbled. So far the season is going good. Hard not to believe they'll keep getting better as they find stuff that works. It truly is still a bizarre roster. But Markannen looked good, Coby is at least developing, and Williams is getting good chance to develop with strong challenges. It is still hard to look at the roster and not think they'll be outside looking in. But if they are playing competitively, witht he right guys playing well, it will be worth it. One guy I kinda wonder about is Bagley. Really rough start to his career, and seems to be getting caught in the perpetual unhappiness that sac creates. I wonder if there will be a buy low opportunity there. He was my least favorite in that draft class, and is playing like the reason why, yet he's still super talented.
  12. I think that week went like: 1) Sox are going to sign Torii Hunter! 2) Angels sign Torii Hunter 3) White Sox sign Scott Linebrink to 4 year deal Soxtalk wasn't that happy. That 4 year 19 mill was a pretty shocking deal back then.
  13. Not only David Robertson, let's not forget about the GOAT SCOTT LINEBRINK
  14. It makes me feel good that Astros/Dodgers are going after him, personally.
  15. It's absolutely this. Lopez would need to "find" stuff. But Cease has it. It could be as simple as he may be able to command his secondary pitches better and is not relying on locating his fastball to set himself up. But we don't really know. Cease is a hilarious interview. It certainly isn't lack of effort, he's putting in the work. Baseball is hard and non-sensical but you hope a guy like that can make it work. He's not a guy you'd say is squandering his talent.
  16. I think this is counting the chickens before they hatch. If he maintains a 112 OPS it helps, but you are saying it’s pretty much guaranteed he’s a top ten 2b.
  17. What happens if you take out his best games though?
  18. I’m fine with Madrigal, I think he’s easy to upgrade over but he’s better than say Brett Lawrie. I just enjoy the hyperventilating from the group that heard we drafted a short, heady second baseman who doesn’t strikeout and decided he’s Nellie fox.
  19. No the big thing was accuracy. People were calling him kyle boller 2.0, with dumb nfl front offices falling in love with arm talent over clear accuracy issues. He only threw for 57%. I mean Wentz was looking good at that point so the small school stuff was not near as big of a hit. He also had a terrible game against Iowa to open up 2017 that was the first time draft twitter saw him, and so they were enraged when he was still linked as a first rounder.
  20. It's just a time for accountants to get excited that people are actually going to discuss tax law.
  21. I think it was just especially bad with Allen because there was the draft nerd consensus on accuracy, and anyone drafting Allen was proof of the nfl front office stupid vs. draft hive. Then that year happens and it's back to just "well we know absolutely nothing" on whether a qb will succeed, but also after jimmy G and tannehill we can't even figure out who will stay good or bad.
  22. He should get credit for “not darnold”. Im not sure there is a draft that underscores how much I hate nfl media (but especially nfl draft Twitter) more than that one. Buffalo was just crushed for drafting Allen. Jets were thrilled to get Darnold.
