Trade Whispers - Starting Pitchers
I still have some burger thoughts but it feels like we moved past it.

Trade Whispers - Starting Pitchers
I wanna hate Gonzalez and don't particularly want to spend on him but he's like a way better pitcher than I remember every single time I look.

The hamburgers are good, idiots.

Dodgers sign Bauer (3/102, opt-outs, 40-45-17)
No way nats, not with scherzer, strasburg, corbin. angels/jays is my guess.

Katz on our Pitcher Progress Summary
https://theathletic.com/2309736/2021/01/08/new-white-sox-pitching-coach-ethan-katz-is-in-constant-contact-with-his-starters/?source=emp_shared_article We have had good discussion on the Crochet part, but thought some would like to get some info on what was said on the rest of the pitchers on the staff: Cease - Katz has been working with Cease to eliminate the cutting action on his fastball that was causing decreased command and ineffectiveness. Katz showed Cease he was opening up too early and is having him ride on his back leg longer before starting. Good line: "But Cease noted to Katz that his delivery feels like that of Josh Hader, Milwaukee’s All-Star closer with a distinct cross-firing throwing motion. Cease is not cross-firing at all in Katz’s estimation, but it’s just that after two seasons of flying open, that’s how unfamiliar having a consistently straight line felt." Lopez - Katz thought Lopez' arm was getting too far from his body causing the velocity decrease. He's had him throw more compact and keeping his arm closer to a straight line. He is reintroducing his curveball now that the changes were made. Kopech - Kopech is going to be a Fastball, Slider, Curveball pitcher, his changeup is no longer the primary focus of the 3rd pitch. Giolito - They are refocusing on the Curveball. It won't be the same as it was in high school, and they are going for a "strike getting" pitch, but they aren't dismissing it becoming an out pitch. They also have focused on trying to keep his slider consistency to match how good itw as at end of last year. Lynn - Talked about Lynn's 3 fastball approach, but he's been working on two offspeed pitches and hoping to add those to his arsenal this year. Keuchel - Basically Keuchel is perfect and knows what to do on his own lol. The rest of the crochet stuff is mostly in the other thread. Thanks fegan.

2021 Plan for Kopech and Crochet
Damn I finally read all of this, it's friggen incredible: https://theathletic.com/2309736/2021/01/08/new-white-sox-pitching-coach-ethan-katz-is-in-constant-contact-with-his-starters/?source=emp_shared_article

2021 Plan for Kopech and Crochet
There's nothing stopping them from having him as a starter in spring training in this plan.

2021 Plan for Kopech and Crochet
Had he been garbage in those minor league starts he'd have stayed in minors though. He was striking out hitters at will but had control issues. Who better to work with him than cooper? I'll be open to idea that they are responding to same pressures - I did say it was like watching them fail the marshmallow test. But he is much more of an unknown than sale/rodon were. I'm just open to idea that they may think going into season with a plan for him that has consistency will be better than sending him to an uncertain year in AAA only to switch back up to bullpen after he's pitched probably more than he did last year. But it would help if someone would get some more on the record thoughts from the m which I'm sure will come in spring training.

2021 Plan for Kopech and Crochet
So he did get minors time is what i'm getting out of this post.

2021 Plan for Kopech and Crochet
I do think this is a little different. Rodon did get minors time. And I am at least open to idea that the uncertainty around the minors is making them plan differently, like this guy may be too valuable os they are choosing a path they have more control over.

2021 Plan for Kopech and Crochet
I feel like this is watching the sox fail the marshmallow test.

2020 Election Thoughts
Thank God this wasn't while he was eating at a restaurant or Trump supporters would have to get a civility lesson.

NFL Thread 2020-2021
I have to say though it was this kinda thought that led to Rodgers falling (tedford) https://bleacherreport.com/articles/37795-aaron-rodgers-will-flop-just-like-every-other-tedford-product

Old: Mega Hendriks Speculation Thread
I guess it's just that I don't really like Gray and you can't shoot those bullets twice. He's an improvement but not like, the kind of improvement I've wanted.

Old: Mega Hendriks Speculation Thread
NY raiding the vets off a down year like paxton, kluber, etc. seems feasible. They'll have the luxury tax hanging over their heads next year though and I'd bet they are eyeing one of the top SS. Such a weird year.

NFL Thread 2020-2021
I guess I think so just based off of the reaction after his game vs. clemson. I don't really follow nfl draft stuff that closely though right now. I know wilson began being thought of as #2 for a bit, but Fields game was pretty incredible and that might hold some sway.

2020 Election Thoughts
I think I get it. It's not about corruption or the swamp. It's about an increasingly unrelatable group of people in power at every level of culture and politics that they felt was condescending and bad. And could easily be convinced that that group was capable of anything evil they said just because they hate them so much. Republicans for gave them a bit of that while also thinking they liked republicans for the policies. Trump gave them all of the hate and realized they didn't care about the policy. It's an all ice cream diet. And that trump was so despited by all of that group just re-enforced that he was one of them even with everything else. And he never stopped fighting the culture wars. And he was never not hated. A lot of other people like Hawley are useful only as far as they supported trump, but they'll be discarded and someone else will be found that scratches that need of just being loathsome toward their number one target: owning libz. Probably don jr.

NFL Thread 2020-2021
Yeah not sure. If you are Houston and get the best deal for Miami you'd be getting back your (own) #3 overall pick. That is probably Zach Wilson. Because they are getting Watson, Houston could likely get Tua, and thats the equivelant of 2 first round picks, plus more. It depends on whether Houston would rather Tua or Wilson (or whomever they view as #3). If houston doesn't like Tua, it's possible bears could get him. Risky as hell though after what he showed but I do think he's better than this year.

They may not stand pat but they are way more aware of the lux tax than I expected. They'll sign lemahieu then who knows what.

Reminds me of when I was a teen poster here and intended to start a topic on John Hughes movies but accidentally wrote John Holmes movies and people were like ?
