  1. Fun thing I learned about the chicago pizza puff is the place that originated it was a tamale place which is why it is wrapped in a tortilla. Was a rude awakening when I had a pizza puff in college that was just a calzone. Was wild when I realized that giardinara, pizza puffs and italian beef were regional. Obviously thought they were the entire world.
  2. They are going to hate him because he isn't relying on strikeouts. But I am a believer in his ability to generate groundballs.
  3. It's also just too much fun to have guys like that in the bullpen, and a potential bullpen for October of Hendriks, Bummer, Crochet would be so fun. And we deserve fun because I am now forced into watching Adam Eaton. But hey, maybe we get bubblegum-blowing-while-hitting-a-walkoff adam eaton.
  4. I totally understand the Colome side. It is noteworthy to say that we are ultimately paying more just trying to ensure we can recreate what Colome did last year, he was fantastic. But I really worry about Colome's shoulder, and his ability to continue to keep it up. I don't think it was smoke and mirrors, but I do worry how any decline affects his ability. Hendriks, in my estimation, has more room for error to still be effective. But the side against him has the same concerns! He was used a lot, it could lead to steap decline as we see with relievers. I just don't see the decline in the stuff, and think he gives us a lot of flexibility to throw a bummer or hendriks earlier in the game to shut it down and get multiple innings. Could you do that with colome? We did largely use him for multiple innings and he was great. So this is a question about what we can expect the next few years, and that's just a difficult discussion with relievers. I will say though, I'm just not that concerned about if HEndriks underperforms our ability to trade him out. We may not get a good prospect back, but someone will bank on a recovery with a pitcher. Someone always does. Unless his arm falls off, but we should have insurance on that.
  5. So Josh Byrnes declines Phillies job. Great job middleton.
  6. sigh, he must be some reinsdorf secret agent. Just 15 minutes of caulfield posting and now I'm sympathetic to adam eaton.
  7. The best part about successfully developing middle and set up relievers is splurging here before those guys go to arb.
  8. Oh is that what’s happening
  9. Ok but like a lot of the reason people think that here is stuff like this in other words, not just that sox couldn’t compete with what they had, but that Adam was a reason it couldn’t turn around. Now he just is a guy that keeps to himself I guess.
  10. I don’t think it’s worth adding a middle tier talent that’s also got a rep for being a jerk. But I guess things can only be brought up as an issue if they can singularly be attributed for tanking the Sox. Will Eaton singlehandedly bring down the Sox? No. You win. I guess I just assumed the Sox would try to clear obstacles for this team, not add them.
  11. When Sox traded Eaton didn’t you intimate it wasn’t just about the rebuild but to get problem guys off team? What changed
  12. Their best players were the problem vs. the best players being the leaders. Makes a difference.
  13. To be fair, they had a very veteran team. The opposite of ours.
  14. Really just want Hahn to say "we don't believe in handing out starting jobs in the offseason, but there can be exceptions. And that exception is Yermin Mercedes will be the starting DH for this team, his minor league stats will translate exactly, and everyone on the internet was right about everything."
  15. Yes sorry I clarified later, probably should have just edited the main post. I thought DRS would align to baseball savants OAA data since its usually close but DRS is also specifically dinging his RF play, which OAA still views positively. So it's holding runners or something causing the dings.
  16. FG crowdsourcing has been way off in the player direction the last few years. It misses often on the highest end deals but everything below that they do poorly on.
  17. Maybe this will be rad like the upcoming dune looks after the first one was garbage.
  18. I hope Jake McGee is a real option. Though I feel they can just read our innermost thoughts and regurgitate them.
  19. unfortunately I'm wrong. DRS does not like Eaton in RF. Baseball Savants Outs above average does like him...so this is possibly holding runners related but that would be surprising since I his arm was insane in 2016 when moved out of center to right.
  20. If this is the world we live in (never getting the premier corner talent), the two positions you'd be ok with it in is RF and 2b. Next year you have Marte, Taylor, Dickerson, Polanco, Canha, Calhoun, Blackmon in addition to some possible opt outs or buy outs in Avi and Castellanos. Plus who knows how many of the guys this year will sign 1 year deals in Joc/JBJ/Rosario/Schwarber, etc. And on top of that, the possibility we can fill it internally.
  21. Eaton isn't the insane RF he was when he was with the sox, but his dWAR is dragged by CF play. His RF is still positive in OAA
  22. at this point it's, I think, at 114. So last year was 140 basically right? Starter + Reliever probably puts you there. So I'd say sox are probably going to be around there if not slightly above for some middle relievers. If they sign a DH they may go higher. That will probably be the interesting call.
  23. I will be extremely happy if we can convince brantley to come here and DH. If that happens, we probably need to get leury to work fulltime on infield again, where he isn't great but has attributed it to having to practice so many positions.
  24. It's more about his position. Despite him being more of a power hitter than a Madrigal, its slugging in 2019 puts him at 25th in RF...just ahead of Jason Heyward... Hilarious. Didn't hit me until now but for all the talk about Darvish/Heyward last night, this is basically the budget version of that (granted Eaton doesn't K)
