I loved me some quintana, and was someone who would get angry when teams would not want to hand over their entire farm system for him. That said, I am not that keen on him returning. Let's get the easy stuff out first: - Yes, it is likely he outperforms the extremely bad signing of gio gonzalez. Had we had a full year, gio would have been a big nothingburger. And here is the good: Jose Quintana has pitched 175 innings for most of his career until he tried to cut fruit or whatever last year. For those that need it, I think the Ivan Nova comp for what he gives is legit. BUT: - One thing that was interesting with Q and the sox was how his velocity continued to increase each year, but on the cubs it retreated, now settling in around 91.5 mph on average. - The thing that made Q amazing was his home run suppression. During his sox years through 2016, his HR/FB rate was under 10%, it increased starting 2017 and stayed there during his time with the cubs. - The cubs have generated more whiffs but I don't know if it made him a better pitcher. Quintana's stuff is not great, his command is. But cubs moved him to the recent trend of high fastballs to take advantage of his curve. It has made his curve much more effective, but as we pointed out earlier, that velo drop may matter here as his fastball is getting crushed. And I worry that when he's missing high, he's leaving the ball in the heart of the plate. His hard hit rate has increased recently, up to near 40%. His command keeps people from barreling him up too much, but he still gets crushed when he does leave it out. His hard hit % used to be above average, now it's below. So he'll give you innings, he won't walk batters. That is still true. But I don't know that this doesn't keep getting worse. Nice guy though!

Disagree there, Franco is a generational prospect. He's like adding an Acuna or Soto to a team that won a world series.

Rays may not trade snell, but the thing with the Rays is they are likely to add the #1 prospect in Wander Franco and have a number of pitchers which may also come up. But, Musgrove is great to me because he's going to come in and throw strikes, and he succeeded in Pittsburgh which is wild! And he's got control for the control heads. Giolito, Lynn, Keuchel, Musgrove, Kopech...that's exciting.

That wheeler stuff is done. Their owner is crazy and shut it down way harder than necessary. Sounds like they will only add.

K yes this is me. I really, really liked that DD threw strikes after past few years of our prospects. But that it’s essentially just Dunning is pretty good to me. Still a lotta nerves about cease / kopech needing to really contribute but...they also can. I know it’s likely but man, I’d much rather go old man ace with Kluber or Hamels for a year than Q.

For all the cubs talk here, I realized a lot of posters stopped paying attention to them in 2018. Heyward isn’t a star. But he’s been better offensively and still pretty good in right, and RF in the grf isn’t that hard. Darvish has been an ace. And don’t tell me what a pitchers career is, tell me what they’ve done recently.

That’s life man. That’s life.

Can’t co sign here. I don’t think Bauer is better than darvish.

Darvish just had a near cy young year. This board way WAY overrated how much taking on money should get.

I’m just playing around. One time I heard from Curtis granderson that he was going to the yankees and then he was wrong and that was my moment of insider game.

I am very pro darvish and would point out that Heyward has been fine in RF... I would be pumped if we aren’t sucked into entire Heyward deal.
