  1. I know this isn't the best example because ... he didn't make it to a second contract. But the royals were able to use Brandon Finnegan as a reliever immediately and then Reds started converting him to a starter mid-season. Do we think he can effectively develop a third offering in the bullpen, and can his innings build up enough in the bullpen? I do think he should start in minors, but he has a lot of value to the 2021 sox.
  2. Maybe. Maybe he'll be Arte Moreno.
  3. I don't think we are going to get anything this week.
  4. This is why in theory sox are a fit if they paid the piper. Rays would want mlb-ready production and they have that in vaughn. If sox did that, I'd understand and be pumped to have Snell. I do think it's possible to have a "toned-down" snell that prioritizes length of appearances more but is still very productive. But my goal for sox offseason is to add to the overwhelming core they are creating. I'm ok swapping longer term potential for shorter term (see pitching with dunning/kopech/stiever type moves), but with Vaughn - there's no vaughn behind him coming up. Well, except for Yermin.
  5. Three team trade, with Andrus to Cincy, Sox get Gray and Lynn, ... and that’s as far as I got
  6. I appreciate pulling the relevant stuff but, yeah, no need to pull the whole feed in. People can follow them for that.
  7. I think it is confirmed, I thought last year's deal covered DH through 2021.
  8. I like Jake McGee a lot as a middle reliever to bring on.
  9. I think issue is sox front office are inherently an optimistic bunch and even if you had a pipeline into hahn you may get the impression that sox are closer than they are, and if you were to hear Mets were all in on trying to get springer with Cohen as owner, you'd assume it happens. So, I'm not a big "no smoke works in sox favor" guy. Just as likely means we aren't serious bidders though we are in discussions.
  10. Joc: - Hits the ball really hard - Is a good Right Fielder - Gets on base (even last year at a 9% clip) - Most pitchers are RHP and sox already crush LHP - Won't cost much or preclude sox from adding a better OF later That's the reason.
  11. I'm actually on this side. He can work on his third pitch in majors, and eventually move to starting. Brandon Finnegan did it, and sure, he's out of the league. But sox need maximal impact now from their roster. I don't know that we shouldn't at least plan on calling him up in June.
  12. I know they aren't, but are they trying to stay on track or tear it down?
  13. Does anyone have a feel for where the Reds heads are at? - They snuck into an expanded playoffs - The reason they made it is a fantastic pitching staff and they are losing its ace - Their offense is garbage and I'm not aware of many prospects on their way offensively With that, they are seeking to trade Gray. So do we think the Reds are: - Looking for MLB ready or close-to-ready players OR - Top prospects regardless I honestly don't know what they can do. I'm glad they got into the playoffs though.
  14. But I'm not worried about optimal contracts, I am looking for getting a good year out of players because we are a playoff team.
  15. I worry about Colome's shoulder. There was a fegan article way back when about how much he has to do to prep his shoulder for the season. I don't know if that should be taken as "this is what it takes to perform at my age in the top league in the world" or that he has a ticking time bomb of a shoulder (moreso than any pitcher I guess).
  16. He matches his declined option: No sign of depressed prices.
  17. Braves aren’t scared of “blocking” young pitchers. Hope Sox follow suit.
  18. Cease with Derek Johnson and Boddy could be interesting.
  19. Good thing about musgrove trade - I imagine Cherington will want younger assets. Have to imagine it would need to be recently drafted ones, though, since it would be so hard to have scouting of others.
