  1. I think issue is sox front office are inherently an optimistic bunch and even if you had a pipeline into hahn you may get the impression that sox are closer than they are, and if you were to hear Mets were all in on trying to get springer with Cohen as owner, you'd assume it happens. So, I'm not a big "no smoke works in sox favor" guy. Just as likely means we aren't serious bidders though we are in discussions.
  2. Joc: - Hits the ball really hard - Is a good Right Fielder - Gets on base (even last year at a 9% clip) - Most pitchers are RHP and sox already crush LHP - Won't cost much or preclude sox from adding a better OF later That's the reason.
  3. I'm actually on this side. He can work on his third pitch in majors, and eventually move to starting. Brandon Finnegan did it, and sure, he's out of the league. But sox need maximal impact now from their roster. I don't know that we shouldn't at least plan on calling him up in June.
  4. I know they aren't, but are they trying to stay on track or tear it down?
  5. Does anyone have a feel for where the Reds heads are at? - They snuck into an expanded playoffs - The reason they made it is a fantastic pitching staff and they are losing its ace - Their offense is garbage and I'm not aware of many prospects on their way offensively With that, they are seeking to trade Gray. So do we think the Reds are: - Looking for MLB ready or close-to-ready players OR - Top prospects regardless I honestly don't know what they can do. I'm glad they got into the playoffs though.
  6. But I'm not worried about optimal contracts, I am looking for getting a good year out of players because we are a playoff team.
  7. I worry about Colome's shoulder. There was a fegan article way back when about how much he has to do to prep his shoulder for the season. I don't know if that should be taken as "this is what it takes to perform at my age in the top league in the world" or that he has a ticking time bomb of a shoulder (moreso than any pitcher I guess).
  8. He matches his declined option: No sign of depressed prices.
  9. Braves aren’t scared of “blocking” young pitchers. Hope Sox follow suit.
  10. Cease with Derek Johnson and Boddy could be interesting.
  11. Good thing about musgrove trade - I imagine Cherington will want younger assets. Have to imagine it would need to be recently drafted ones, though, since it would be so hard to have scouting of others.
  12. Would be sweet if Rays were super into Yermin Mercedes, take a trade we all are ecstatic about, then it turns out yermin is babe Ruth down there and torments the yerMEN on the board for eternity.
  13. My ideal is adding on top of our immediate young core - not balancing. When I throw out Vaughn I’m just trying to be realistic on what TAmpa would actually want and what it would take. The ideal trade for Sox is a greinke/verlander deal of past where they are still very good but on the side of their deal where their team couldn’t build around them anymore. Thats why this offseason for pitching In good with quality depth and biding our time until one becomes available. edit: I should add that this is what Darvish is to me and why he’s my favorite of the trades, followed by Lynn then musgrove.
  14. I feel like those dudes want a shot though. Sox bullpen could be tough to crack into.
  15. To be fair, the first contract was fine. It was his next one that crippled them.
  16. Should be a ton of relief help but not a ton of closers. And we have Bummer. What do you guys think?
  17. Garrett Richards an SP3. Man these dudes should definitely be put on sox payroll.
  18. Nope. If I was Rays though, Sox would be my ideal trade partner. Maybe pads, go after a long time infield of Abrams/Franco and get some more pitching or outfielders.
  19. I feel like people are kinda retconning the Archer return. At the time they were two washed up prospects. Then we realized how crappy the pirates had become at player dev. It was somewhat similar to the goldschmidt trade.
