  1. I love these projectable bodies sox have gone after for pitchers last few years.
  2. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/chicago-white-sox-2020-21-international-signing-preview/ Videos of some of the prospects expected to sign on 1/15.
  3. The goal is to add elite players onto our elite core, not "balance it out" more effectively.
  4. I kinda agree with Chisoxfn on a couple points but also still do not want La Russa because of the odds the following will not happen. I think some of the talk around "analytics" is embarrassing. People talk about it as if its a gene pool you are either a part of or not. To me there are problems with La Russa's age, but the bigger issue of La Russa era managers isn't use of analytics by them, it's control. If LaRussa comes in expecting to be the full manager of all on-field decisions, that's the problem. If Tony LaRussa wants to join as a manager that is just a cog in the wheel of the decisionmaking and player development that happens with our players, that could be fine. He could hold players accountable and coaches accountable for following through on the direction set forth by management, PD and La Russa himself and that would be fine. Coaches more capable with technology can be in charge with implementing it and being responsible for teaching the players. La Russa wasn't going to be doing infield practice with the guys anyway. An older manager could certainly do the above if they wanted to and he could very well be successful. I think he would manage the bullpen well. But the likelihood is TLR would get in the way of inputs from management and bring a staff that is less likely to use modern PD tools. But he's old school and can't use analytics I think is ageism, honestly. THe issue is control. If he accepts that the use of technology as a teaching mechanism is important to the org adn the way it needs to go and is in charge of having people work on that, and that the front office, pd staff is a part of on field decisions, then he could be great. But if he thinks he'll be the superstar manager of past, that owns the field and can tell the FO to get out of his way, that's not a good idea. If he was hired and we heard the above of what I pointed out above I'd be fine with the hire. He clearly has the ability to get a lot out of his players and can use his experience to prepare them mentally for the grind and expectations. But if he wants all of it, no thanks. Obviously, that's where a Hinch or Quatraro, who are used to those expectations and know what to look for in coaches teaching players with technology, are ideal. You know what you are getting.
  5. Cool, well she learned her lesson. is this Bauer’s fault for something someone else wrote? No, but it is completely predictable on what would happen to anyone who has used Twitter for longer than a day. So yes he deserves criticism for doing something that ends up encouraging a bunch of insane followers to get their misogynist rocks off. I would like if Bauer signs. I’ve followed him a long time. I think he’s legit a genius. But he’s also legitimately abusive especially often punching down. But he’s not a domestic abuser, he’s not a drunk. But he is that and I don’t think people should let him off the hook when he again forgets to think through the power of his actions.
  6. He could have replied, he quote tweeted. Im not tar and feathering Bauer, I guess it’s only fair he criticize. But the comments here on “what Twitter is” are probably the worst people on Twitter that ruin the whole thing.
  7. This is good advice for Bauer.
  8. I kinda worry that Bell would be a distraction. Not as a locker room distraction, but to Nagy who already has a bunch of players he needs to figure out how to correctly use them. Now he'd have a shiny new backup runningback he'll make a bunch of designed plays for and will force them into the flow of the offense.
  9. I think that’s pretty naive. His response was to quote this person and ask dodger fans if she speaks for them. It’s an invitation to others to go after them. If this was a barstool writer doing it I don’t think anybody would be confused to what’s going on.
  10. I saw LaRussa at the Sox luncheon for their 5 HOFers (Thome, Raines, larussa, Haines) and Thomas couldn’t make it. JR was there. I don’t know. I don’t think this is real, but if Tony LaRussa wanting to get involved in baseball again I’m not shocked that JR and not the cards would be who he’d call. And even this attention and buzz may be his idea of a favor.
  11. How old was Jack McKeon for his marlins days (not the interem crap)?
  12. Well, if cheating started in 2017 as was documented, he was 19 over .500 and won a play-in game against the yankees before losing to the WS royals. The year before he took over they were 22 games under .500. That 2015 roster wasn't very good.
  13. Came out last winter, then DB dropped out of soxfest.
  14. This where I'm at. Saying Hinch means no bauer is a weird exercise. If sox are willing to pay highest amount to bauer, they'll land him - hinch or not. Bauer is clearly viewing FA as validation of his work.
  15. I think you should speak with less certainty here
  16. anyone publicly angling for the job should be disqualified.
  17. Not a household name I guess
  18. Really? They promoted teh hell out of that.
  19. I've been very confused by the suggestions of managers still under contract with other teams. But yeah, Tito should hang it up at least until CV is mitigated.
  20. Robert is a better defensive CF. You are getting the same production regardless so this is just worsening your team for no reason. Engel would be a plus RF so at least you have premium outfield defense.
  21. I'm fine with a first time manager if we stop treating the manager as the single decisionmaker on what happens on the field. Cash, Baldelli were first-year guys who are part of a system. Hinch was more successful when part of a system, that he knows what that should be like is a plus. If we hired a Quatraro and asked him to be a buck showalter, mike scioscia type manager we will be in the same situation.
  22. Yeah I have to say that La Russa's persistent drunk driving gave me more of a visceral reaction than Hinch. BUT - I'd prefer they go elsewhere.
  23. All the best managers recently were largely first time managers as it's moved from getting someone who knows baseball to letting the FO handle that and get a guy the players trust and respect. The superstar manager is dead, sox don't need one. If they really want previous experience, LAD bench coach Bob Geren who has held the role for the WS appearing mets and now dodgers after an unsuccessful run as As manager during the 07-11 years. But I stand by wanting Quatraro.
