  1. I don't hate it but bookending Jimenez defense with Ozuna seems like a problem.
  2. The worst parts about previous draft strategy in my opinion were the: - Use of 2nd rounders on college hitters they kept saying were "tremendous value" (sheets, walker) and for some reason needing to pay them overslot (will never get that) - So much draft capital on college relievers. The result was, one, missing out on a lot of prep talent with the 2nd round picks, especially missing out on a very deep high school pitching crop last year. This year featured some relievers 4-10, but they were to save money. The pitching beyond Cease lacks stuff. We have a lot of recent picks on college pitchers with "starter traits" that throw 88-91 (mcclure, henzman, pilkington) Getting prep arms that throw easy mid 90s but need development is incredibly important for system (see Hahns original "waves of talent", ours has a huge cliff) When they had gone high school, they went so late, with so much money committed, they were getting complete projects. Beard offers the chance at a player with elite tool along with some hitting ability, albeit with major risk on competition. The perfect 4th round pick, a guy who flashed, but didn't have the perfect opportunities due to geography or other circumstances. The process is right, though, we'll see if it pans out. Baseball gonna baseball. Had we done this similarly since 2016 I think we'd have a few more top prospects, however.

draft promotions will be coming soon.
  4. I don't really know the way out for lopez. Every pitch is just a little worse than last year. Its hard to say throw the slider more when it's getting crushed as much as the fastball.
  5. Send him to Giolitos pitching coach.
  6. Mendick does this. He’s pretty streaky.
  7. He just needs to find his slider again. The Sox have leaned way too hard in his fastball, whole league has gone away from that.
  8. Wish that didn’t happen

The Kanny kids have been so resilient.

Birmingham in a 0-0 game with 3 hits guess Robert didn’t do anything... opens box score Robert has 2 of the hits and a stolen base...
  11. Man DJ sounds great not to be paired with Ed Farmer
  12. I am so excited for James Beard still
  13. May also just be to meet player dev staff in AZ before heading to affiliate ball.
  14. Sounds like I didn’t miss much. I’m fine with it though, I really liked rounds 3 and 4, though it’s not the best draft ever. I would say if his 17/18/19 drafts I’d say this is most likely to produce multiple starters.
  15. It's pretty wild to draft two guys not on BA500 in the top 10.
  16. This is where law rubs people the wrong way but I find it kinda funny. When Lee was drafted, other draft folk went "were we too low on him?" to scouts. Law was just like "terrible pick! They are wrong and their letting go of the scouting dept will doom them!"
  17. bah, looks like the rest of the draft is gonna be boring. I'll take it, but sucks for now.
  18. Whoa...wait what? Bradley 3:19 Love the James Beard pick for the White Sox on name alone. Outcome likely to be Terrance Gore? Billy Hamilton? Hopefully more? Keith Law 3:20 Same org that turned Micker Adolfo from a workout phenom into an actual hitter. I give them a good chance here.
  19. I'm fairly confident that soxtalk hivemind would be a pretty good scouting director.
  20. Dan Hammer still around.
  21. Nate 3:13 Keith, it is very strange to see the White Sox drafting players high up on your board. Does this indicate a change in strategy or are you secretly advising Rick and Nick? Keith Law 3:13 Definitely not advising them, and I don't think they need my help either. Really strong draft for them so far.
