  1. Keuchel is a nice guy at least.
  2. Oh man, yeah. Sigh, because I'm a sadist. I do think it's worth getting marwin and seeing if he turns it around. I am legit angry we traded for alonso and didn't give avi at bats again.
  3. "If we do this, i will not sign a Mat Latos or Miguel Gonzalez ever again"
  4. Why don't our lotto tickets ever hit again?
  5. at least we have the best beat writer in baseball.
  6. no please no. The problem is with machado/harper you had pieces part of a sustained run. This is just artificially propping up 2019-20/2020-21 when maybe you should just let it ride and allow more flexibility.
  7. Lol TFW you realize the sox spent their mlbtv money on herrera, colome, alonso, jay and mccann hahahaha oh god oh god.
  8. Right, big difference between this and JD Martinez, there were multiple suitors!
  9. This is going to be a brutal opening for the nbcsn.
  10. Yeah I think an issue is that while Reinsdorf used to be competent if not good, he has an old school mentality that hasn't evolved. You hire basketball people to run a basketball org and baseball people to run a baseball org. But the baseball people have changed, and his have not. The white sox org doing what its doing now may have been successful in 2005, but it is not in 2019. The best orgs are looking at the rules and looking to exploit every possible advantage. The white sox are just keeping an eye on emerging trends and will catch up if it proves to work, and by that time those teams have already evolved (check out the athletic article on narvaez using body tracking devices to improve his defense at catcher) He thinks that the progressive organizations are bad for the sport and now how you win, despite them all winning and his orgs falling behind. They need a changing of the guard badly. Hahn failed. Seriously my god putting together that list of free agent acquisitions over 6 years is unbelievable. You couldn't find a worse list I promise.
  11. I don't know that i've seen a definitive answer but around 2017 I remember people whispering that it would be likely he would sell sox but keep bulls with michael. I'm sorry, I can't find any supporting articles though.
  12. I still really enjoyed watching 2017. 2018 was tolerable. I thought this year would be at least interesting to watch it all start to come together. I ... have never been less excited for a sox year.
  13. Ha! no not at all. But I'd like everyone that says manny is too expensive to look at the sum value of all of these "reasonable deals". Hahn's free agency is like going to target. As you pass by each one and put it in your cart you think "this is reasonable, could be useful!", and you pass by tvs and think "naw, too extravigant". Then you get to the checkout aisle with $250 worth of useless shit and you are like "where did this all go to?"
  14. Good point Bad in free agency bad in drafting bad in international scouting decent in trades
  15. lol and i just put together every hahn free agent signing since he became GM. (it ain't good)
  16. White flag was bad but I think worse I felt was Laroche saga and maybe the double dip with guaranteed rate field. This is worse because it confirms the FO isn't up to the job and it isn't getting better.
  17. I was about to write that in a post in the machado thread, how they were going to accelerate signing b free agents and were definitely going to draft vaugn and a college pitcher in round 2, but deleted it to not sound too angry online haha
  18. Nobody asked for it, but just to prove just how terrible hahn has been as GM at free agency now with our 2018-19 class. (this is somewhat edited toward players likely to be mlb signings) I bolded anyone that was a great signing (exceeded value of contract). 2012-13 Dewayne Wise Jeff Keppinger Tony Pena Matt Lindstrom 2013-14 Jose Abreu (skeptical if it counts) Zack Putnam Felipe Paulino Ronald Belisario Scott Downs Dylan Axelrod Brian Omogrosso 2014-15 Junior Guerra (let go for nothing later) Zack Duke Adam LaRoche David Robertson Melky Cabrera Brad Penny Emilio Bonifacio Geovany Soto Scott Carroll Jesse Crain Gordon Beckham Nicky Delmonico Matt Albers 2015-16 Matt Purke Alex Avila Dioner Navarro Jacob Turner Matt Albers Mat Latos Jimmy Rollins Austin Jackson Chris Volstad 2016-17 Derek Holland Cody Asche Everth Cabrera Geovany Soto Gregory Infante Anthony Swarzak Peter Bourjas 2017-18 Matt Skole Welington Castillo Miguel Gonzalez Chris Volstad Xavier Cedeno Jeanmar Gomez Bruce Rondon Hector Santiago 2018-19 James McCann Kelvin Herrerra Jon Jay Who is excited to go discount shopping with Rick Hahn?? We have plenty of money for b/c free agents! EDIT - see post with $/WAR
  19. The problem is the white sox have not shown that they have improved their talent evaluation or development. Manny was a cheat code to cover it up.
  20. I wrote this when I was trying to figure out how big a disaster it would be if machado didn't sign. It's still a disaster, but it was helpful to me to figure out what is required to keep rebuild on track. Mainly - we can't underestimate likelihood that we'll feature only an average offense. They really need to find big bats in the corners, not just .800 ops 1b, they need to be great, because we don't know that we will get great offense from our other positions.
  21. Just rain the shit on top of us
  22. Totally agree with this. Perhaps in a different org hahn would be a much better GM, but one of his failures is being unable to convince JR to operate in a different mode. If we legitimately will never spend above $130 million, the organization needs to operate completely differently than it does. For one... you cannot lack an international free agency pipeline.
  23. Because our front office isn’t good at talent development, our core of prospects is atrophying to injury and poor development. Joy
  24. The only thing putting me in a good mood right now is remembering people that have that rick Hahn Obama spoof T-shirt in their dresser lol
