  1. That the pads are in on this means they have cleared themselves to spend money that is going to push the Sox.
  2. San Diego was in the tax already with like a 600 person class that has partly fueled their #1 farm system.
  3. Padres with Machado and Tatis for next decade is worse than cubs signing either to me. Just a team created by white Sox failure.
  4. You have multiple people saying the pads offer is over 280 and you are going to risk it for...what exactly? Too many people have bought into the fact that the worst thing Sox can do is bid against themselves. Worst that can happen is they fail to sign him.
  5. damn. It’s hitting numbers I’m legitimately concerned Sox will walk away from.
  6. Then the white Sox of the last decade should have been a power house.
  7. He also clearly targeted this market as part of the rebuild and routinely fails at execution in free agency so, yeah he deserves to be judged. If Sox don’t land Machado, do me a favor and make a list of white Sox free agent signings since he took over and cry.
  8. It’s amazing that it’s never Hahns fault, it’s always KWs or now Reinsdorfs.
  9. I don’t want the Sox in the other end pushing the tax issue thinking they are clever. Beat the effing offer and end it. i sure wish it was the Sox we were hearing about being aggressive. Sox have a chance to prove they are operating differently, but until they execute I believe they are arrogant about how clever they are.
  10. When the mlb forum goes up soon we can add it there. PHT gets a little crowded with sticky’s.
  11. One of the victims was a northern Illinois student on the first day of his internship. So cruel.
  12. I just learned about the Kanopy app. Really thrilled with this. Was getting very frustrated at the lack of streaming options for older/foreign movies.
  13. I think what bothers me most is they keep posing that they would rather sign in volume with lower level guys since 16 year olds are such a crap shoot, yet the only players they have signed since 2013 that will make it to AA are all top 30 guys that they paid for: Adolfo, Robert and the lower end of this is tatis who was right around top 30. Yeah, they had some million plus signings that didn’t work out, but let’s just say I’d rather have been the Yankees this class with one 5 mill signing than the white Sox. They haven’t proven they know what they are doing.
  14. Anxious to see how Missouri’s hitters do to see how much one month of Matt Lisle accomplishes
  15. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sbnation.com/platform/amp/lookit/2014/7/31/5956235/jim-bowden-marlon-byrd-trade-deadline its always somehow funnier and slightly different than I remember.
  16. People say this but in the Harper thread we have people standing up for Jim Bowden despite him trying to imply he had confirmed a trade completion that he saw on Twitter from ken rosenthal that turned out to be a fake account, and then tried to hide it by changing his twitter name to Ralph and deleting his old tweets.
  17. Based off past behavior, equally likely that he’s running with the reporting of that Washington radio reporter (Martin?), saying “rounding third” is something he can back track on if it falls through. This takes something that is out there and modifies it a little bit.
  18. Ralph has broken very little during his time as a writer yet has often run with other people’s reporting and passed it off as his own.
  19. Just remember that quote from the Passan article with two execs close to the negotiations. The expectation was that the team that would get machado would be at a discount but not a wholesale discount.
  20. the pufferfish is fake twitter rumors about Sox signing machado and the dolphins are us in this thread
  21. As an aside, don’t used “state income tax” when you actually mean % of income to state and local taxes. It’s not a politicians sleight if hand, it’s literally different things.
  22. That’s not measuring income tax, and it’s blending all taxes in a formula which doesn’t account for the fact that California has a graduated income tax (Illinois does not). When you make a per capita formula it drags down the averages because the vast majority of people in California do not pay 13.3% state income tax. Machado would. The rest would depend on where he lived due to property tax.
