  1. Also, maybe we could just try to supplement this rebuild with as much talent as possible instead of taking a risk that we'll be extraordinary in any one area? Just hearing a lot of skepticism that adding talent is necessary since we already have talent, and if the exact talent we have right now doesn't succeed perfectly than it proves they didn't need any more talent.
  2. We didn't draft him, he was pretty well developed. His first year with us was his mvp year (he got worse subsequently after)
  3. Just because it's a rebuild doesn't mean you have to wait until a decade later to judge the decisions being made in the present. The sox targeted two very talented, younger than average for free agency player in a favorable environment. If they fail, it's fair to judge them on that. It's also fair to judge them on their weak drafting since the rebuild. It's also fair to judge them on their continued poor results from international free agency. They haven't had a player use the ample playing time to suddenly flourish like other rebuilds, as milwaukee and philly had. Hahn has yet to sign a free agent position player that has performed anywhere near better than expected during his entire tenure. And it all still may succeed. But it doesn't mean every decision has been right along the way.
  4. No that's great offensively. When they are SS and 3rd? Better competition there but ramirez man, he's amazing. Would love to watch that guy every summer and not be hurting my team.
  5. It puts a lot of pressure for Yoan's bat to become great. If not, long term you have an average bat at third, an average bat at SS and hopefully an above average but low power bat at 2nd. You'd need an OF that generates a lot of power. That ain't Lindor/Ramirez on the left side man.
  6. I don't know what to think with vaughn. It seems like a pretty good heuristic would be to avoid college 1b in the first round but then we have the greatest player in franchise history as a college 1b.
  7. I would not put Anderson above Eloy personally.
  8. Right. Someone has pointed out we dont know what landing a big fish even looks like, but I know what it doesn't look like and it's a lot like this: - Suddenly not being mentioned as the bidding for the free agent heats up - Team moving starting 2b to 3rd and announcing its full time *for no reason* - Other teams being labeled as "aggressive" in their pursuits.
  9. I don't understand why this is a line of thought. Whether or not Machado signs does not mean you need to move your very important part of the rebuild to 3rd and *downgrade* him to accommodate a guy that may *may* be a supersub on a contending team.
  10. I really thought "naw you guys are overreacting, sox aren't going to prematurely move their potentially plus plus 2b for a guy they just drafted that may not be there for 2 years if ever" but nope, yeah that's what they are doing.
  11. ...but Moncada is a second baseman. A very rangy athletic speedy second baseman.
  12. This org does not particularly seem like they have any idea what they are doing.
  13. He also started falling down as soon as it was clear he was a 1b, which Vaughn already is.
  14. Said it before but if this year is the polar opposite of last year for development we would be world series champions next year. It was brutal, and we just have to hope we get positive regression.
  15. One thing this has made me realize is if manny signs we will actually have a good lineup vs. RHP esp. if we sit Timmy some times.
  16. I am not the biggest believer in this organizations competency, but I find it likely the sox indicated in the offseason to Moncada they wanted him to start flexing at 3rd in games, and created a plan for spring training. If manny signed? Then you can split out the squads and get them both reps at 3rd. I assume there are multiple fields to work. If we signed Manny would they just not led rondon/madrigal practice? They were there today too.
  17. If they really want him to be more versatile though, they are going to want to give him reps at it before putting him in a game.
  18. Thank you. Ideally sox end up a team with more than one good player at positions, and depending on the pitching matchup may need to play multiple of those players on one game, and can because they utilize them around the diamond and they are prepared for that. In soxtalk minds if that happened, you trade your backup shortstop and 2b for catcher. Screw that, you want to win the division every year? Have overwhelming depth. You may not win a world series but you'll get through 162 a lot easier.
  19. How about this, our CF bat is terrible. Behind a few runs late in the game they move tim to CF and allows us to bring in rondon in for an extra bat while keeping tims bat in lineup. That's the kind of versatility you see top teams seeking, moving players around to create optimal lineups for pitchers. Knowing that Tim could play some center does not mean he is always a center fielder.
  20. charles the cat 2m ago They have no "money" to spend, but my sources are telling me the cubs are about to launch an ico called "cubbiecoin" and they are prepared to offer harper 6trillion cubbie coins which could be worth way more than money.
  21. I am not very optimistic right now, but Machado working only at 3rd base for one practice on February 18th is not that sign dudes.
