  1. Obviously the present is always more fun than the past, but the next 8 years they can build a disgusting offense, in 2032 $25 mill for a player will be annoying but not destructive. And as always, no trade clauses and dollar amounts are bad in that they reduce your return, but they are not insurmountable.
  2. 13 years 330. Again, the cheat codes were there to sign these guys. Sox live in a bubble where they didn't think it mattered.
  3. It is pretty high expectations to expect him to not be the worst pitcher in baseball.
  4. The sox need to start raising their expectations. They grade themselves on a curve. You can do that if you were the yankees. When you've won 2 world series in 110 years? Nope.
  5. I guess it goes to show that @ptatc is still a better doctor than me.
  6. Good article here. I'll be nice with sampling. https://theathletic.com/842154/2019/02/28/lucas-giolito-is-back-in-the-lab-trying-to-start-a-prove-it-season-on-the-right-foot/ Behold, what gio looked like last year. The glove goes around laterally, which he says he struggled to maintain and caused him to go off balance, as we certainly saw. Now, I can't embed what is showing up for his new motion, but here is his description. the good and bad: good luck to the adam engel of pitching.
  7. To me the problem wasn't slow playing it, its the same issue phillies are having. The sox and phillies did not acknowledge or prioritize at all the value that the player believed they were. They only thought they should pay attention to what the market was willing to pay. Other teams then said "hey we think you are worth x, we are going to offer you that", and when it aligned with the players own value they signed him.

Yeah. I’ve said it before but even if he bounced back this year, I’d have no confidence he would be “fixed” and not just forget how to pitch for a year again.
  9. Acting like they missed out because of how they value the player still makes them look like idiots
  10. solid free agents are terrible investments.
  11. hows that different than if he doesn't have an opt out in his deal?
  12. kiley just said witt and abrams aren't far off in hit tool, with witt a hair below. Makes me feel better about either.
  13. And if he was productive enough that he wants to leave also good.
  14. Jeff Dickerson's wife passed away per his twitter yesterday. Very sad news.
  15. Thanks, and thanks fathom for clarification. Always sad to hear.

When you have terribly low turnout in an aldermanic ward, and you are known for doing favors, it's not hard to win. But people needed to show up.
  17. I hate that i have to think this way, but it's still of the normal baseball variety (injuries, etc) and not something tragic right?

Can't believe burke beat the run-off. That's probably bad news for preckwinkle.
  19. That's true, I've been wait and see on Gonzalez due to the white sox slowplaying him due to logjam ahead of him, no fault of his own. Fun thing about Gonzalez - go check out his first half season post college draft. Wasn't good. No power, poor obp. It isn't gospel.
  20. I am right about madrigal, but he is absolutely going to be moved aggressively and you should take that into account if he's in birmingham.
  21. Amos is fine, lacks ball hawking skills, I think most just want callahan as not having a good slot cb is hell. I'm sure most have the rams on the mind, who had a surprise season and doubled down with tons of secondary and dline talent, unfortunately with Mack we aren't in that position but I do expect bears to rework a lot and try to add a big player in some capacity.
  22. One of the things I kept holding onto, since development isn't linear as they say, was if this year was as good for development as last year was bad, sox would be in dominant shape soon. But we are already looking at 4 of our top prospects out until June. Dunning and Basabe both looked like players that were in that "2 months at lower level, finish at higher level" mode that may have ended in seeing the white sox. What could turn it around? If the infield of kannapolis plays well, that will be a group that could make us feel better. But aside from sosa, they've been snakebit by injuries. But Curbelo could easily have his micker adolfo type year, where he finally is healthy and shoots forward. Bush could be there soon, if he legitimizes his bat, it's a huge boost to the system. They are the players that can improve as they move up.
