2018 NFL Draft
I agree with Soxbadger from a high level but actually like the Miller trade a lot and am kinda surprised how little the Patriots got back. I think what has always annoyed me, and I've repeated myself on it, but for a guy that says he believes in building through the draft and not free agency he sure sets himself back by trading away a lot of picks. And this is especially annoying when you think about how little they've tried to go for it the last few years. Prime opportunities to take advantage of others urgency. And to me it all goes back to the Kevin White draft. He hadn't set up his team yet. He had a top ten pick. I think there were two optimal scenarios there: - Go big and trade up and get Mariota (was rumored) - Trade down consistently, and with an eye on collecting future picks That said, the specific 2nd swap I don't have a problem with because we did acquire a high pick this year with it where we otherwise did not have one. It wasn't a trade up. Overall, we may see Pace operate differently when this team gets in the mid-teens in drafts instead of top ten. I think he may be pulled with the idea that if they are going to be top ten, get the guy you want and will be impactful. But his actions 2nd round and later have been more in the vein of pick collection. But I want more 1-3 round picks. 4s are nice but 5-7 are crap. Happy to use those to just move around 1-3 and rely on undrafteds after 4.

FG 2018 Top White Sox Prospects
If you compare these ratings to what Longenhagen typically gives it will make a little more sense. MLB Pipeline gives out 45 FVs like candy so it kind of makes everyone else look harsh. Both Adolfo and Cease would be high upside 45s but I think for now its right. They both have a lot to prove in health and approach before you can elevate them. And as interesting as I find our approach to relief pitching, I'm not sure how any of our arms look compared to others aside from Burdi. Vieira's velo has been down and control is an issue. Hamilton, Burr, Morrison, etc are all promising but still at low levels. Overall I think some performances already this year have been promising to get some more 40s than this list and a few 40s to 45s.

2018 MLB Draft
I just think like I’m one of the modern, successful mlb franchises like the Astros and think would they avoid drafting a complete baseball player with a great hitting profile, one that avoids ks, because they have a redundancy? No, I think they would just make him versatile, find them both spots to play consistently and use their depth to outlast and outplay others over a 162 game season without the luxury.

White Sox Prospect Hot List, 4/24: Frost, Roman, Dash hitting, Kanny pitching
Oh that’s great.

White Sox Prospect Hot List, 4/24: Frost, Roman, Dash hitting, Kanny pitching
I’m worried that the plan is just shut down Adolfo, move up booker and rotate DH/OF with Robert, basabe, Blake, Call. Worried just cause I want this Adolfo train to keep developing.

2018 NFL Draft
I’d want more like a 2nd and future 3rd. Knowing they want a qb, even two thirds isn’t enough (for me). I like Roquan a lot, but yeah getting 2 3s and James could have been nice. Still think Smith is going to be a monster. Safeties have been so hit or miss recently.

2018 NFL Draft
Hard to keep up. Missed the draft and will miss tonight’s and tomorrow’s, terrible timing for a friends wedding the tampa trade illustrates why I was upset a few weeks back on how bears always seem one pick back of the “fulcrum” pick. The bills clearly were going to move up but 8 was likely too late. They miss on getting to 5, Indy decides to stay, then Tampa got the spoils. but the az trade was less enticing. Likely not available to bears as the price should have been steeper and AZ may not have paid. A 3rd and 5th for 7 spots and likely a much lesser talent not worth it. i love getting Roquan Smith. He was amazing every game I saw him, then I bought into the “shed blocks” thing, the. I realized that was all about 1/2 of a game, then bought in again. i also said bears may go Landry, so I know nothing. His medical may be way worse than fans knew. Love what’s on board in 2nd, if we get Hernandez or Iowa C I’m happy, but feel weak can recoup some 4ths and still get a target.

2018 MLB Draft
I find it odd that people read this as “he can only play 2nd”

04-20-18 Games (Kopech, Clarkin, Lambert, Rigler)
Not that exciting of a night on the farm yet. But Basabe walked twice. Just a different hitter so far this year.

Sox at Oakland 2:35 CDT: Fulmer versus Triggs
QUOTE (Scoots @ Apr 18, 2018 -> 03:08 PM) That's kind of what I was thinking. He doesn't have an overpowering fastball, and his offspeed pitches aren't very deceptive. Which suggests to me he should have pinpoint control then, but that isn't there either. What am I missing? It's more that he can't locate his offspeed stuff, so people don't swing at them. When he has shown he can get to two strikes, his curve can do a lot of damage.

4/18 Games
QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Apr 18, 2018 -> 01:20 PM) Why do all these highly regarded arms have control issues? Lopez, Kopech, Cease, etc. Throwing a baseball with movement and speed to a small area 60 ft away is difficult.

2018 MLB Draft
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Apr 18, 2018 -> 11:36 AM) Too much to do at work for me to post Kiley draft snippets in case anyone wants to head that up. Some good stuff in there already. Here's a good one:

2018 MLB Draft
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 18, 2018 -> 10:37 AM) Are there really a lot of examples of going underslot with the top 5, and having that pay off big later on, since these pools have come into play? I hope it's rare the Sox draft up here. To take a guy they don't have as their top available player, so maybe they can get an upgrade around pick 40 doesn't do anything for me. I have said before, but I think the reality of the situation is they don't have true 1, 2, 3 rankings. They'll have similarly ranked players and will take the best deal to have flexibility if they DO have a higher ranked player later on who is a signing concern.

Baseball America: White Sox International Review
Where are you seeing 21 players? I only see 5 listed at the top of the page?

There was nothing on the guy from Aruba?

Moncada
QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 18, 2018 -> 08:53 AM) With the exception of his strike outs, he is doing just fine, batting left handed: .256 .370 .487 That puts him near the top of Sox hitters, so far, in every category. No one is really lighting it up on this team, probably because of all of the off days and the terrible weather for hitters. If you want to do something drastic, maybe he could try facing lefties, from the left side. For my part, I'd prefer to let him continue to try to become a productive switch hitter. I just don't recall a situation where they dropped switch hitting and were actually better that handed.

04-17 Games (Beck, Adams, Flores, and Henzman)
QUOTE (yesterday333 @ Apr 18, 2018 -> 08:30 AM) Yup... his obp is above .300 right now. I don't see how that such a bad thing. Sure you'd like him to not strike out so much but his obp is gonna be ridiculous when he starts getting a few hits. Like, imagine if when Narvaez hit the ball he hit it really hard.

2018 MLB Draft
QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 17, 2018 -> 06:41 PM) Your evaluations are far too early and shortsighted, IMO. Also, my preference is to focus on the upcoming draft for this thread. Regarding the above posted mock draft, that sure would be interesting if picks 1 through 3 all went for pitching... giving us free reign to select any bat of our choice. San Francisco is most interesting pick to me. Who knows how they’ll want to take advantage of this position (go for a fast moving college pitcher?)

04-17 Games (Beck, Adams, Flores, and Henzman)
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 17, 2018 -> 08:11 PM) The W-S guys are sporting some ridiculous BABIPs so it’s only natural we see some regression to the mean. The good news is the K rates have been pretty solid for all of them. Yeah the best part is as a team they are just not striking out.

04-17 Games (Beck, Adams, Flores, and Henzman)
Luis Gonzalez turning it around, 2-4 with a home run. And Yurchak as well, 1-1 with 2 BBs

really could use a new mock draft.

2018 NFL off-season thread
I keep seeing Landry higher and higher. I'd wonder if he wouldn't be a pace pick, but on the other hand they may start paying attn to medicals more now.

Moncada
QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Apr 17, 2018 -> 01:33 PM) I'm not sure that we're confusing a good eye for complete lack of pitch recognition. He might be a patient hitter, but he looks at strike 3 way too much for me to believe that. If he was taking them and they were borderline calls that were going against him, I'd tend to agree. He's taking hangers and fastballs that are excellent pitches to hit for strike 3; pitches that cross in the heart of the strike zone. Todd Steverson touched on this when discussing Yoan in the Athletic: "“It’s there,” hitting coach Todd Steverson said of Moncada's pitch recognition. “You can recognize it, but is it a strike? There’s recognition and there’s recognition of a strike. I think that’s where some people get mistaken. His recognition is good, but recognition of what? Recognition of strike or recognition of pitch and strike? Or recognition of a ball? When I talk about recognition, I don’t talk about being able to see ‘Oh that’s a slider,’ I mean ‘That’s a slider for a ball,’ and I’m able to stop or ‘That’s a slider for a strike’ and I’m able to swing. Those are totally different things. “He’s good at recognizing the pitch and now it’s just a matter of height. That’s the next piece of it.”" https://theathletic.com/312574/2018/04/13/w...s-at-the-plate/

Alec Hansen
He's ramping up throwing in AZ. Sox don't give daily updates on guys in the minors, so don't expect much info.
