Since scotty is struggling to steal right now, I think this would be a good time for a hit and run. -
6th August Game Thread - Sox vs. Mariners
Rowand44 replied to DBAHO's topic in 2005 Season in Review
Hopefully the Offense can get it going tonight. If they don't score within the first two innings this game thread's going to get very ugly. Last time Mark pitched against Seattle the game lasted about 6 minutes, hopefully he can dominate them again. -
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 10:27 AM) Yeah, cuz his career 82 OPS+ really makes me think he's an offensive force. -- The only nice thing I can say about Blum is that he's not Willie Harris. He sucks, but at least he's not Willie Harris. We don't have any room for Gload? Couldn't we have used an extra bat yesterday? Couldn't we have used a guy who can actually get an extra-base hit? Whose natural position is 1B? Oh sure there's a roster crunch, but surely there's someone who's only contribution is eating the post-game spread in the Clubhouse. -- Oh wait there is. -- Jon Adkins. He of the can't get guys out at AAA Adkins. Thank God we called him up so he could work 1 inning in garbage time. With the way Ozzie manages the pen another arm was needed though as I've said before I think Adkins is the wrong guy. Blum's purpose is to back up Crede, with his back he's going to need a few days off every now and then and Pablo was killing us defensively at 3rd base. I really do wish Ross was on the roster though, he's got a raw deal this year imo.

Blah, bad f***in luck, good positioning by Seattle.
-
Tad's gonna have to be the one to come through. Arow vs Nelson is not a good matchup unless of course Jeff were to hang a slider.
-
Scotty's having a tough time picking it up.
-
I'm happy they brought in the lefty here. Helps scotty stay on the ball, good thing when you're struggling.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 08:07 PM) While I'll agree that Ozzie doesn't leave Garcia specifically in because he's family/latino....I'm still not ready to say that Ozzie knows what he's doing in regards to in-game managing. There's no questions he's a great motivator though. I don't think he's a great in game manager either but for the most part he's made the right moves even when they seemed ridiculous.

2 on, 1 out. Cmon Scotty, get yourself on track.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 08:01 PM) Rowand44.....do you think Ozzie should pull Garcia now? Yes, I said that already. SSI uses this same crap argument all the time "It's because he's latino, it's because he's ozzie's relative" etc. It's ridiculous, he always lets the pitchers try and get wins, that's the way he manages. I've disagreed with a lot of ozzie's moves this year but for the most part he's been right and most of us have been wrong. Ozzie knows what he's doing, period.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 07:59 PM) He is a relative. He aint coming out. Ya, that's exactly it. :headshake :headshake :headshake :headshake

Freddy in trouble, might be time to bring in Bobby and get a few k's.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 07:46 PM) Well, that shows the difference between you and me. When a ball bounces away from an outfielder to allow a run to score, I get upset. When it happens, you find a way to say it was a good play. That's why we've agreed to disagree! The ball took a hard hop and just rolled real fast along the wall, not many outfielders are able to play that ball perfectly.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 07:45 PM) To be perfectly honest, I'm more worried about the Sox playing well below .500 for the rest of the way, opening the door for a race to the end. We have to get things going at home, because we're not exactly scoring a lot of runs against some very medicore pitchers. You've been worried about the Sox tanking it since April.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 07:43 PM) Not the right time for Garcia to hang a 2 strike pitch. Pods didn't play that ball very well, but at least we got an out because of the misplay. Actually that was a pretty damn good play by Scott, that ball took a funky hop and he just managed to knock it down.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 07:41 PM) Cleveland, with Victor Martinez hitting like he did last year, is a damn good team. By no means am I saying that they're 14 games better than us for the rest of the season. It's just their schedule which frightens me. Cleveland doesn't frighten me at all to be perfectly honest.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 07:38 PM) Just remember....I'm pretty sure no team had ever comeback from 3 games down in the playoffs to win a baseball series. The difference is Boston was a better team then the Yankees, Cleveland and Minny are no where near as good as we are. By the way, I've said plenty of times I won't consider anything over until the magic numbers hits 0.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 07:35 PM) We are going to get into the playoffs. The other teams dont matter. Its time for this team to learn how to string a few hits together without trying to park everyone into the stands. They need to get back to situational hitting. Driving the runner in. Its time to get this offense going before the playoffs. When 6+ Era pitchers can shut us down for most of a game its pretty focking sad. Do you ever contribute anything to game threads except for b****ing about the offense?? We understand your freakin point already.

Talk about a cue shot.
-
Our hitters are just a hair quick on a lot of pitches so far, all over 'em though.

AJ!!!!!!!

Gooch is getting hit a ton lately, that obviously wasn't intentional but yeesh...
-
There ya go Scotty.

QUOTE(CYGarland @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 06:41 PM) He was unbelievable in April, and has pretty much sucked since. But he is very versatile as far as D goes. Actually he had a better May then April and he's been pretty solid in July as well. June was a real bad month for him but that's it.
-
QUOTE(CYGarland @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 06:39 PM) Actually I'm a Padres fan too, and he sucked there as well. He is a very streaky hitter, he hasn't been on a good one since the beginning of the year. He's actually had 1 bad month and has been pretty solid the rest of the year. Not to mention he looks pretty damn smooth in the field.
