Playoff rotation?
QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 11:15 AM) Why would it depend who were playing? If you read what I said 'Do everything humanly possible to pitch Freddy on the road' opponent has no effect on that. Pitching Freddy on the road is definitely the way to go but in the playoffs he'd probably do fine wherever considering he's a big game pitcher.

Will Pods hit a HR this season?
QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 10:41 AM) He has come close driving balls to left center, etc - he's bound to hit one. Dan reminded me that something is supposed to be in your sig that isn't there.

The Oakland A's
It has to do with a few things: Number one is definitely the recent history, the Sox were supposed to be good and they just weren't, the A's the past few years have just been unbeatable down the stretch. Second, has to do with how the Sox were portrayed at the beginning of the season. There were more espn "experts" picking the Sox to finish in 4th place then in 1st place, everyone else listens to these so called experts and all the sudden the Sox are a fluke. To be honest, Kenny and Beane have just done terrific jobs this year and there is a great chance both teams will be in similar situations next year.

8th August Game Thread - Sox vs. Yankees
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 08:21 AM) Time to take 2 of 3 in the Bronx! I predict a W today, a L tommorow w/ Contreras and a series win on Wednesday as Freddy is both awesome on the road and in day games. Meh, forget the fact that it's a road day game, I just expect Freddy to dominate cause he'll be interested. El duque has really been great since he's come back off the dl minus 2 innings, really.

These 2 should be stuffed in a bag and beaten!
How the f*** can people do that to animals?? This stuff just pisses me off. I wish these people were torchered, they don't deserve jail.

Playoff rotation?
QUOTE(chisoxfan79 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 08:43 AM) I know it is early but with the big lead I will talk about it anyways. How should Ozzie setup the playoff rotation. With the first two games at home I would start MB and Garland in games 1&2 they are the only starters who pitch good at The Cell then games 3&4 Freddy and El Duque who have big game Experience and pitch well on the road and if there is a game 5 back at the Cell you can go with MB unless they are playing the A's then go with Garland because he has the only two wins against the A's this year. A couple things: First, the A's and Angels are tied for the west/wildcard so it's in no way a given if the sox get in that they'll play the A's. As for the rotation if the Sox get in, in a 5 game series you're using 3 starters. Buehrle, Garland, Freddy, Buehrle, Garland.

Cy Young?
They've both been awesome. Buehrle is still the better pitcher in my mind and has had the better year but Jon's right there, Jon's also been a big game pitcher this year, he's been our stopper a lot after our extraordinary long 3 game losing streaks. They both deserve it.

Paul Konerko
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 11:42 PM) See I knew you were going to throw that up. Konerko's 29, and probably in and about his prime right now, you give him a 3 year deal, he'll perform fine in that contract throughout. Is Dye gonna be a 1B? Yeah he looked good in his 1 game there, but unless he spends say a lot of winter ball and spring training learning the position there full - time, it's probably not going to happen. Now with Giles. IIRC fathom said his bat speed was really starting to slow down this season (help me out here dude). He's 34, and probably going to want the security of a 3 or 4 year deal. My guess is he could go to Atlanta to join his brother, but I wouldn't rule out him staying in San Diego down there, he's probably one of, if not the "franchise" guy down there with Hoffman and Peavy. That said, I've got no problems giving him a 2 year deal. He has a 1.066 OPS away from PETCO this season, and a 49/16 BB/K ratio (that's insane). And he crushes righties. But will it happen? Unfortunately I doubt it. I don't expect it but I wouldn't necessarily doubt it. If the sox and Dye decide they think he's suited to be a first baseman they can have him work on it all winter and spring and he seems like a good enough athlete to try it. The main thing is the sox are going to have a lot of money to spend and not to many holes to fill. I think the more likely situation is Pauly resigns and the sox make a huge run after Furcal, jmo.

Paul Konerko
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 11:35 PM) I doubt he'll get $12M (unless some GM or owner in insane). But let's have a look at the other 1st baseman in OPS. You've got the likes of Lee, Pujols, Delgado, Sexson, Sweeney, Helton and Teixeira in front of him. Konerko's on a hot streak right now, and is tied for 3rd for all 1st baseman with 26 HR's, and 3rd for walks (something that we really lack) with 57, and there's not a great deal of difference b/w his stats home and away this season. My guess is he'll finish in the top 30 in OPS by the end of the season. Ok so if Konerko goes who replaces him? Can you handle Ross Gload and someone like Casey Rogowski splitting the duties at 1B next season? How about Brian Giles in right field and Dye at first? EDIT: By the way Pauly has 27 homers, don't take one away from him.

Paul Konerko
I've been one of hte people who have knocked Pauly a lot this this year, he's been much, much better as of late and to be honest I've been real impressed with his performance this past month. Hopefully he keeps it up and continues to make me look like an asshole. That being said I still prefer we let the guy walk because of the amount of money he's going to make in the offseason. But it's still 05 so continues rolling Pauly.

Tough 15 game stretch starting Mon.
I'm actually kind of excited about this stretch, I think we'll play better against the tougher competition but that's jmo.
