  1. QUOTE(Jimenez4MVP @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 06:04 PM) Career .267 hitter with a career .350 OBP... that doesnt suck EDIT: Yeah he is in their minors He sucks. I've never hated a player as much as I hated Jimenez.
  2. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 05:08 PM) Which means no HD. I don't have HD, doens't bother me
  3. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 05:06 PM) What channel is the game airing on tonite? I have directv and both WCIU and Comcast are showing Cubs vs Brewers as the listing? Is it on ESPN or ESPN2? It's WCIU
  4. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 12:29 PM) The question is -- if we don't hit Lima hard will posters here transform into Hawk and say that Lima is really an ace-quality pitcher? The question is- If the Sox don't score in the first 3 innings if you are going to declare it corpseball and say this team sucks
  5. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 04:27 PM) id like to see at least one of our guys represent, hermanson and garland would be my choices Mark overall has been better then Jon this year. You need to have atleast 1 rep anyways, I'd honestly rather not see our guys pitch though but that's just me.
  6. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 04:25 PM) I would rather see Cotts shifted into a setup role, with McCarthy staying in the rotation (if successful) leaving El Duque for a mopup role/long relief. Vizcaino, in my view, has been much better recently. If he can command his fastball, he can be very effective with his slider. As of now, hitters are waiting for the slider because he can't throw the heater for a strike. This would leave Shingo as the odd man out, shifting him to Charlotte until September, when he could rejoin the team as rosters expand. For now he would stay on the roster until El Duque is ready to return. Bottom line is, as I discussed with Jason this past weekend, Shingo just isn't going to get any better pitching once a week. He needs regular work in the minors. Very true, shingo is basically useless at this point. Last Tuesday he looked absolutely fantastic against the Dbacks it was the first time all year I saw him consistantly get his junk over for strikes. Putting Shingo in Charlotte would be the best possible thing for him and maybe he could find his release point and regain some confidence.
  7. Good post Spiegle. I believe this is what Kenny is looking at, if Brandon pitches well it seems that he will take over The Duke's spot and Orlando will end up in a bullpen. Also if there was ever a rookie to rely on in a pennant race it would be Brandon because of his maturity level.
  8. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) this is ridiculous, were gonna be like the first team in history with the best mlb record to have nobody start at a position Unless Buehrle or Garland start the game but I expect it to be Halladay. Personally I'd rather have none of our pitchers there so they can rest a bit and I hope neither Jon or Mark will have to pitch when they go. The allstar game is nothing for me, I mean don't get me wrong it's fun to see our guys there but especially with our pitchers I hope they don't have to play.
  9. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 04:05 PM) The excuses are just not cutting it anymore Such as not living in Chicago
  10. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 01:24 PM) You weren't alive during Red's years, your a Bulls fan who lived and died with them at one point in your life. I would rather listen to somebody who had a clue on the topic because frankly you don't. Once again, why I don't post at Soxtalk as often as I'd like. Everything you said to me goes for you as well. You're a Celtics fan so you're biased, you also weren't around during Red's years. All I'm saying is it's a good question and you're acting like it's not even close or worth discussing.
  11. QUOTE(That funky motion @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) Crede does not fit this team! Hitting wise maybe he doesn't hit ozzie's philosiphy but defensively he sure as hell does and that's why ozzie has been backing Joe up all year not only will Joe hit 20 homers but out of everyone mentioned in this thread he's the best defender out of all of them(minus Chavez) including Randa imo.
  12. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 03:26 PM) I'm not "worrying" about it, I just think this is the same sort of thing that becomes ugly after losses. 'Everyone else sucks, except maybe the Twins. 8 game lead, that's such a huge cushion, this thing's basically sewn up.' No wonder people get peeved after a loss, if they think that even Cleveland is a complete fluff team. Cleveland's good, they will compete the rest of the way. I don't believe they'll catch up, but there's a long time and a lot of uncertainty to resolve between now and the end of the year. I'll be just surprised if they do, not laid low w/ shock. None of it's sewn up and I think everyone knows that. As I've said my opinion isn't based on how far back Cleveland is because we still do play them 11 times but it's based on my opinion that the Indians are just an average baseball team. I've said all year I believe the Sox and Twins are the two best teams in the American League so the Twins are still a threat in my mind but Cleveland isn't.
  13. QUOTE(CubKilla @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 11:23 AM) You can devote an entire thread to, "Koch's Botches". This is true but I'll always wish the guy the best just cause of the way he handled himself here even though he was stuggling. But man, that game hurt so much momentum from that Twins series and it was all gone with one swing.
  14. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 11:18 AM) I've been able to watch the last two games and I can think of quite a few time Joe's went to right or center in those games. That's why he is starting to hit a big again, working the ball to center and to right field. Even yesterday after his first hit he absolutely scorched a ball into centerfield but unfortunately it was right at Drew.
  15. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 11:18 AM) Ah that's right. July 1st was the night the trades were made. My bad. That game sticks in my mind because I remember having an offday after that game and then Koch blowing the game on a Crawford walkoff on the 4th
  16. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 11:12 AM) It has to get mentioned. The July 1, 2003 game against Minny. It was Robbie and Carl's first game in a Sox uni; I wanted us to take that so bad. Kong hits the PH game-tying HR. Frank goes to LF w/ the walkoff the very next inning. Beat me to it. That game was just special cause it finished off the sweep of the Twins. Of course Koch blew the mojo on the 4th of July. Greasy, not to be picky but that game was July 2nd.
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 11:07 AM) I started talking to my wife about the most memorable games I have ever seen, and was trying to rank that with some others. Here is my list #1- Robin Ventura's walkoff Grand Slam against Goose Gossage of the Rangers #2 Dave Stieb pitching a no hitter into the 9th against the Sox at old Comiskey. The Blue Jays were leading 6-0 and everyone had started to cheer for him to get the no-no, except for me, and then the bottom of the 9th came around. Rudy Law, Bryan Little, and Harold Baines, went backtobacktoback to make it a 6-3 game, followed by Fisk and Kittle getting backtoback doubles to make it 6-4. The Jays then went to the pen, and finished off the win. I'll just never forget everyone going crazy. #3-Harold Baines hits a walk off 3 run HR against Dan Quisenberry of the Royals, while Quiz is the best reliver in the game. #4-Sox get down 6-0 to the Cubs early, and comeback to win 13-8 in a huge turnaround. #5 Carlos Lee's extra inning Grand Slam to win a game against the Cubs. The Frank walkoff a couple of years ago after Pauly hit a bomb to tie it in the bottom of the 9th against Guardado. That 8-0 comeback against the cubs with Pauly going yard twice. The 3-0 comeback off Wickman the 2nd game of this season was pretty special too just because the offense was so down the first 2 games. Those are just 3 that came to me right away, there's been plenty more then that though.
  18. I love it. Does anyone else just open up the newspaper just to look at the standings even though you know what their record and the standings are, for me it's just fun to look at. Ok, I'm weird.
  19. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 10:31 AM) I wonder how much concern the 2000 Cleveland Indians had with the White Sox. I've been a baseball fan too long to just dismiss somebody because they are not expected to contend. The 1969 Cubs had an 8 game lead in August, and were playing great. Were they concerned with the Mets? Crunch all the numbers you want about win totals if we do this or that. Calculate how easy it should be. Then go look at the last two weeks of the 1964 NL season, or the Yankees run at the end of 1978. Well they were expected to contend though, once again they're not out of the race because we still play them 11 times and they're 8.5 out and playing great ball right now it's just my personal opinion that they aren't that good of a team and they really have no chance but like I said that's just a personal opinion.
  20. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 10:26 AM) Sure. Just the simple things I've done for myself throughout the season. Just a little combination of 2 layers. Thank you, I love that wallpaper. Sorry I can't answer your question.
  21. Greasy, wharris told me you made a really cool wallpaper with the celebrating pic from saturday's game, can you post it?
  22. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 10:19 AM) Auerbach had 0 Stars, Bill Russell sucked. See punch you did say that.
  23. That would be one of the worst trades in sox history.
