QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 01:37 PM) I'm going for France in this game. I hope Zidane ends his INT career with a World Cup win. Or he could end his career by being an asshole and throw a head but for no reason. -

Just win por favor. Lets keep the bottom of the order from killing us this game. -

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 08:35 PM) Brandon McCarthy still has shown me nothing really. I'd also like to ask about this. We throw a rookie pitcher into the middle of a pennant race last year when our lead was sinking fast, Brandon absolutely dominates, and he's shown you nothing?? This I don't understand.
-
QUOTE(shoota @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 12:35 AM) And even at 91-92 he'd still be a better pitcher than Garcia. And of course he's proven that already this season.
-
QUOTE(shoota @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 12:32 AM) Sure. McCarthy's a good pitcher, but if Ozzie plays favorites and won't let him start over worse pitchers, I'd be happy to trade him for Prior. Good point, but Prior's decrease in velocity has to do with recovering from injury while Freddy's loss has to do with either A) loss in ability, or B ) stopped taking performance enhancers. Whether it's reason A or B, Prior is much more likely to recover his velocity and if not, still be the better pitcher of the two. And it is very possible that all of the injuries have taken their toll on Mark and he will never get his velocity back.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 12:19 AM) This is true, I would say a .773 OPS is pretty damn respectable. He's starting to get locked in as well. His last two starts he has absolutely hammered the ball.
-
QUOTE(shoota @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 12:25 AM) Very possible you're right, but I'd still prefer to take my chances with the guy I believe to be the better pitcher, Prior, than the one who is worse and has lost his fastball, Garcia. Prior since he's come back has been clocked at around 91ish fyi. He used to throw about 95-96, so.....

QUOTE(shoota @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 12:22 AM) It's better to trade for a player when his value is low. So this is what I've gathered from you: Lets trade our best prospect(calling bmac a spect since he's gonna be a starter but is in the pen now) for a pitcher who used to be good but has just sucked so far this year and is an injury risk, yet lets also trade Chris Widger for Miguel Olivo because Olivo is having a good year but Widger has the history of being able to handle a pitching staff well.
-
QUOTE(shoota @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 12:20 AM) By pitching better than Freddy G, Vazquez and Garland. He should probably do that first in the NL before he comes over to a league that is 10 times better.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 12:17 AM) How exactly would Mark Prior help the Sox win this year? 7 era's and injuries=helpful, duh.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 12:11 AM) The real, and only legend in that deal was Jeremy Thomas Reed. Don't you ever make that mistake again..... EVA!! jreedfan8 sucks.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 08:35 PM) Over the course of their careers, they usually are inferior to the power guys. Think about it. The only top 5 pitcher ever that wasn't a power pitcher is Greg Maddux and you see how much he's struggled in the playoffs. That 3.22 era in the playoffs, awful I tell ya.

Pablo Ozuna needs no help.

QUOTE(shoota @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 11:35 PM) Even if the light never flips for Olivo, and he has to receive his signs from the dugout, his .291 average and cannon throwing arm is still a better alternative than Chris Widger. Olivo is not going to hit .290 all year and cannon arm or not he's not throwing out anyone when Freddy is on the mound either. I'm also sure a guy like Mark Buehrle would just love to have Olivo behind the plate when he's pitching to slow him down completely.

QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 10:06 PM) I agree with the contention that 2003 was not a terribly good team and that 2006 is vastly superior. I think that 2003 is overrated in a lot of minds here. That team had some great talent, but I don't think every really was a true threat to win the World Series or even make the play-offs. If you want to make a comparison of '06, I would do this one, but hear me out before you reply. 2006 White Sox : 2005 White Sox :: 2005 Red Sox : 2004 Red Sox. The later editions of both teams had a lot of expectations after winning the World Series, both had big rotation issues, and neither seemed to have the pen nailed down for a long stretch. That said, we should take the 2006 Red Sox as encouragement. Moves can be made to really solidify this team this coming off season and make it a real power. I guess this is the new favorite comparison for everyone to make. I guess I understand why everyone is making it but it's still very far off, it's not even close. As bad as our pitching has been, we're still an above average pitching team at this time. That is with everyone minus JC pitching below their career numbers in our rotation. The top two in our rotation at this time are still better than anything Boston had in their rotation last year, and our pen is 90 times better than their's was. They had 0 good starting pitchers and they didn't have a closer. I know why people want to throw out that comparison but even with our pitching underachieving a lot as of now, 06 White Sox pitching>>>>>>>>>>>>>>05 Red Sox pitching

When exactly were the 03 sox 25 games over .500. Lets state some more similarities, for most of the first half of 03 the offense absolutely stunk and couldn't get anything done, same with the 06 sox I guess......oh. Next, this was the time period where our 5 starters couldn't win a game to save their lives, the 06 Sox have 9 wins from their 5 starter. This team has problems that it needs to work out and this very well might have been the most frusterating game I've ever been to but this comparison is absolutely awful.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 06:31 PM) I'm behind the plate after the game today and this lady comes up to me and says "can i take a picture of your jersey?" Somewhat confused, i say sure...Steff says "Are you Brandon's mom?" "Yes" Her and what must have been his aunt take pictures of my jersey, saying it's the first one they've seen, and they were quite impressed. I felt like a celebrity. Brandon's mom was very nice and says she reads here sometimes...she recognized "steff" from the board, which gave us a laugh. She also thought i was her son, which gave us another laugh. Anyway, the McCarthy's were very nice people, kind of cool to meet them in that fashion. This never happened you liar.

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 09:23 AM) Looks as of Gordon is at least going to give IU a visit. From Sports Illustrated: That's pretty interesting.

Freddy's era is actually higher during the day this year. Another interesting stat is that his era is almost a whole run lower at home this year.
