  1. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) You're assuming we win the division, right? Wouldn't The Tigers play the Angels if they won the central? Most likely, yes. Unless the Angels were some how to catch up to Boston(not happening) and become the 2 "seed" in the al.
  2. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 07:04 AM) I know Vazquez has been doing worse lately. He might still turn it around. But if the sox don't think he can turn it around ala Contreras and Thorton, they might be better off dealing him now before his value is nil in the offseason. BMac might be better off suited for the rotation from here on out [not just going by his last 4+ innings vs Boston]. He seems to need the regular work as a SP, as his inconsistent outings in the pen show. The Sox would need a solid bullpen piece in return though. IIRC, Vazquez's no-trade is gone and could be dealt anywhere. A few teams come to mind that could be partners [Dodgers, Astros]. Lidge for Vazquez? Broxton + from LA? I don't want anyone to think I've given up on Javy because I haven't, but he's definitely one of my main worries going into the 2nd half. As far as Mac goes, I agree that's he's better suited for the rotation but I doubt that's going to happen this year but next year...yes. I'm actually pretty happy with what we got in the pen. We got a good(not great) bullpen but the back end of our bullpen I'll put up against anyone's. To be honest, I think the bullpen is set for the rest of the year minus maybe the addition of Dustin Hermanson. That being said, if we could add Flash some how, that makes our bullpen one of, if not the best in all of baseball. Like I said though, I think we're done acquiring bullpen help but that's jmo.
  3. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 05:55 AM) While this may seem like a Gordon for Fields thread, it really isn't. My main point is that if Philly has Gordon on the block, the Sox should go after him. [i see getting a lock down RH set up man as the key to the 2nd half and playoffs--the SP will come around. Also having Gordon could be vital IF Jenks went down. Jenks goes down and so do the sox chances of repeating]. Seeing how the Thome trade worked well for both teams, the good will could exist to work on another deal [not necessarily involving Fields]. Fields is the sox top prospect-hands down. Yet there are other pieces that could be a fit for Philly in a potential trade. Sweeney and Broadway have been mentioned. I don't think there is a person here who wouldn't want Flash but obviously price is the key. To be honest, the bullpen doesn't worry me much. It definitely would be nice to get a right hander like Gordon but I have no problem at all throwing Neal and Matt out there in the 7th and 8th innings no matter who is hitting. The starting pitching is still my biggest concern, I have confidence in 3 starters going into the 2nd half(Count, Mark and Jon) the other two worry me a bit.

  5. I really can't stand watching Pods in left field at all, it's truely one of the more frusterating things to have to see. That being said, I actually like his offense at the top of the order which I know most of you hate. Also, we do win when he's in the lineup and we do lose when he's out of the lineup. So while he might be frusterating as all hell, he does seem to help this team.
  6. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 12:41 AM) That was quite stupid. I enjoyed it.
  7. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 04:03 AM) Why would either team trade with one another? Aren't they both in the hunt for the playoffs still? Yes, it'd certainly be odd as usually you won't have playoff contenders make a big trade with each other during the season. That being said they're are always exceptions like the Nomar deal a few years back and of course Ryan Meaux for Geoff Blum.
  8. I'd laugh if the Yanks traded Hughes for a hitter. That is all.
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 11:06 PM) G IP SV SVO H R ER HR HBP BB SO SLG OBA Papelbon: 40 46 26 29 25 3 3 2 1 8 47 .224 .200 Ryan: 39 42.2 24 25 21 4 4 0 0 9 54 .162 .197 I'd say it's just about a toss-up as to who the better pitcher has been overall but when it comes to doing what a closer is expected to do (close games) BJ Ryan takes the cake. Agreed with everything you said.
  10. There's no way Bronson Arroyo is getting traded, that just doesn't make sense.
  11. The only way Hafner has a shot is if somehow Cleveland rallies in the second half and they get into the Wild Card race. Which ain't happening because they suck.
  12. QUOTE(illinilaw08 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 11:58 AM) I was wearing my BMac jersey Saturday at the game as well... I don't know why Brandon's mom didnt see me at the top of section 531. Rumor has it that you got ditched.

I'll give my awards out later for all you that are curious.
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 11:39 AM) Yesterday's preformance by the pen was nothing short of spectacular. 13 IP 2 ER, and both ER were given up by Jenks in his third inning of work. Imparticular, where the hell did Cliff Politte find that change up? That pitch had some incredible movement on it, and if he can throw it for strikes like yesterday, it doesn't matter if his FB is 91 or 96, he is going to be really hard to hit. All of the sudden, I actually want to see more of Cliff, if he is does indeed have that pitch now. That was one of the stranger things I've seen in a while. I don't think I've seen Cliff throw a change up in his whole career with the Sox, all the sudden he comes in, in the 19th inning and throws 4 in a row to start off the ab?? Very interesting.
  15. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 08:33 AM) From Buster Olney's blog. Basically mentioning the same rumor... Yah, I don't like this one bit. I'm all for trading prospects, but McCarthy and Anderson, I believe, are guys we are going to need this year. At the very least, Anderson provides great defense that we need in CF, and McCarthy gives us one more guy to keep us from going to Politte. He also is good insurance if something happens to the rotation. As much as I like Schmidt, adding him at this cost would take a lot of depth out of the current roster...and our depth from top to bottom may be our greatest strength. Brandon and BA is way too much. I don't want to give up one as it is because they're solid contributors to this years ball club not to mention huge pieces of the future. But both?? Eew.
  16. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 08:21 AM) Dye deserves the Start. He is leading all MLB outfielders in almost every major offensive catagory. That also gives Ozzie three RFs for the game. Ichiro can play CF easily, do who goes to LF? JD most likely.
  17. Flash would be ideal and is obviously a stud but not for Fields, beck. If Josh gets traded before July 31st it'll be for a starting pitcher.
  18. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 03:55 AM) Call me crazy, but I still see Jon Garland and Josh Fields ending up in San Diego for Scott Linebrink, Scott Cassidy and Cesar Carillo. A deal that makes sense for both teams. You're nuts.
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 02:50 AM) Possibly the most satisfying HR of the season thus far. Well, if we don't score here we have to face Manny next inning. I don't see this game going passed 10.
  20. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 01:01 AM) There's a Sox game on CSN. I hope it's a quick win. Papelbon hasn't allowed a run on the road this year, this game is over....
  21. QUOTE(peanut33tillman @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 02:32 AM) Will that guy be Mr. Roberto Hernandez?? Riske is better than Roberto, so no. Riske is a pretty solid and dependable guy in late game situations, I agree that he's not dominant but it's going to be hard to find a dominant right handed set up guy in the trade market.
  22. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 01:51 AM) Dan's right here. Talking about value (from the standpoint of other teams) for a second... Fields at 3B >>>>>> Fields at LF If Fields continues to rake throughout the second half, I could see him going in a BIG trade this offseason. As to what/who he would be traded to/for... I wouldn't be shocked to see him gone by July 31st either.
  23. Does anyone know 36???? I've never heard the answer before
