  1. This was some body's quote about the Batista signing here in Arizona "Should have gone to the Royals they have a definite chance this year. They looked at their downfalls and their GM really went at it. I am glad to see that Miggy got the $$$ he deserves. should have gone to the Royals they have a definate chance this year. They looked at their downfalls and their GM really went at it. I am glad to see that Miggy got the $$$ he deserves. Anyway about them Royals I think they bought their ticket to 2nd place in the AL Central. ". Didn't know what to make of this
  2. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 10, 2006 -> 05:26 AM) Carlos Gonzalez and Micah Owings as a MINIMUM from the D-Backs. If Josh Byrnes gives up those 2 then he will be on the first bus out of Phoenix. I don't think anybody in Phoenix would like that deal that is way to much to give up.
  3. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:31 PM) Apparently Kenny watched a lot of fall league games and got to see both Floyd and Gio in action. Gio has made a lot of strides with his changeup to give him 2 plus pitches (curve and changeup) to go along with his 91-93 MPH fastball. And Floyd has a nasty sinker and really needs a change of scenery to go with a huge big breaking curveball (that looked damn good when I saw him pitch a couple times for the Phillies). I remember watching Floyd pitch a good deal early on when he came up and I thought wow this guy will be good. Its taken a while and he's obviously had control and mechanical flaws, but he's still fully capable of being a front of the line guy. I'm surprised cause I was one of the people b****ing heavily about dealing guys just for prospects but if I understand Kenny's philosphy (based on the Rogers article) things are starting to make some sense and I really don't mind this. Seen KW a lot in the Fall League mainly since AZ/CHW were paired up on the same team. And yes Gio was drawing good reviews from the GM's and scouts. Think the Sox's done a good deal here.
  4. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 09:21 PM) GIO'S BACK!!! I honestly like this trade and I know I'm a minority. Garcia will do better in the NL, but we're setting ourselves up for the future really well with this trade. Floyd I think can at least turn into a great reliever still and Gio just makes my mouth drool. Thank God we got him back. Seriously guys, we weren't going to get much better than this. According to radio here either KW or JB rejected a Owings, Callaspo and Hairston deal. I am glad though that deal didn't go down though.
  5. Of course this is all rumors and guessing but it appears like AZ is close to landing one of the Angel pitchers. Looks like Saunders.
  6. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 09:14 PM) Thats exactly what I want. Unless its my team, I route for the system to fail because consistent failures are what gives me my small hope that we'll eventually some sort of playoff system. I feel that way to. I hated the BCS when it first started in 1998/99 and I was rooting for FLA to make it just to cause the system more trouble. I do think OSU will stomp FLA though I was not impressed with Fla at all yesterday or maybe it is my anti SEC sentiment talking after living in that region for 6 years, and hearing how great the conference is every minuet grew old fast.
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 06:15 PM) At this point though, what sane solution is there? It's a broken system and the voters are trying to put a band-aid on it by making their best decision. Michigan did not win its conference championship. Florida did. Ohio State did. What happens if there is a rematch, Florida wins its bowl game, and Michigan wins the final game? Now Michigan loses the Big 10, and wins the national championship over another 1 loss team that did win its conference championship? That's freaking moronic. It is a broken system there really isn't a solution here. I think what should have happened was after Michigan lost to OSU they should put both USC and FLA ahead of Michigan. I believe the voters looked at the outrage over Nebraska (which didn't even win it's division much less conference) getting in that they did not want a repeat of 2001. The best thing that could happen for the committee is OSU win because if FLA wins all hell could break loose and for one don't want a good football season to be tainted so go OSU!
  8. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) I'll be there althought I havent secured my tix as of yet, still waiting on those. The tailgate should be solid. I am still looking for a ticket. Nice stadium and areas for great tailgating. QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 03:14 PM) Rock you going out there for the game? I get out there Saturday and am playing some golf on Sunday. Where are you staying at? If I could make a recommendation on golfing go to the Wigwam close to the stadium and all the stars go there. Wigwam is the best course in the valley.
  9. 31-27 Florida I would have to say it will be OSU/MICH playing in Glendale. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 07:08 PM) What a goofy game Doesn't that make 3 diff Arkansas players with passing TD's
  10. It looks like OSU/Michigan part 2 Unless FLA makes a comeback and blows out Arkansas.
  11. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 12:19 AM) I hate you, Bham. lol. When you put it like that, it sounds as if we could've gotten Vaz without having to give up a top 15-20 prospect. At that point I think so. I didn't even know that AZ/Det had a deal in place that would have netted Zuyma (sp?) and Bonderman but Vas rejected it. I guess it really miffed the management when a player in there first year with a team demands a trade but then limits the teams to a handful. A lot of teams were rooting for Tigers down here just to rub it in to Vasquez. I overheard one of the scouts at the AFL scottsdale game that when Jerry Owens came up to bat that "we almost had him instead" what ever that means.
  12. From the sounds around here if Zona could have traded Vas for a bag of balls they would have been happy. He burned a lot of bridges around here and he is in competition with Johnny Estrada for most hated former player.
  13. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 04:00 PM) Hairston deserves a chance to become an everyday LF but he's Podsednik like in the field. IIRC he was once a 2nd baseman, although I assume he's too bad to play there. If we could get say Owings and Gonzalez for Garcia I'd probably jump at that (but if we wait we could possibly still get a better offer from someone). Don't know if Callaspo is good enough to become an everyday player or not. I just hope we don't give up Gonzalez this kid already at 20 is raking. I do not think Callaspo will be an everyday player he doesn't have the power and he tends to hit to many fly balls. Everybody around here thinks he will be an everyday player I just don't see it.
  14. Deal on 890 today was Scott Hairston + Alberto Callaspo/Carlos Gonzalez for Garcia. I hope Josh Byrnes wouldn't consider trading Both Hairston and Gonzalez for Garcia.
  15. I am offically supporting Northside for President.
  16. According to SI and Rotoworld the winning team posted $25M just to talk. He is at very best a 3rd starter maybe even a reliever. To sign him most likely would mean at least 7 per year. And a total package of $46 Million. Seems steep to me I would guess it would be the Mets/Cubs/Yanks that won the auction. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/base....bid/index.html See there is already a thread so mods take care of this one. Thanks
  17. I formally withdraw from the race and to the rest of candidates.
  18. 5 years @ 15 Per. Wow Roy Oswalt getting paid as much as J.D. Drew seems like Roy was a steal now. If he waits he might have gotten 20-21 Per with the way the market is going. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/Headlines.aspx?sport=MLB
  19. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 26, 2006 -> 03:54 PM) I know Hairston is being considered for the LF spot this year, but can he play 2B? That's what he's listed as on BaseballCube, but I've never heard or seen him having a shot at 2B once Hudson leaves. If he can handle 2nd (decently enough), then I'd hope to get one of their pitchers in the deal. Owings is a guy that one of the minor league experts on another board has raved about, so he'd be a nice addition. I think he is better off as 2nd baseman. And Owings I believe has a strong future seen him a lot in Tucson. He really did very well in the very hitters freindly PCL/TEP.
  20. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 25, 2006 -> 11:23 PM) I'd make the deal for Hairston and that 2nd-base prospect of theirs, although that looks (on paper) quite lopsided in favor of the Sox. It would be for the Sox's but it maybe not for the Dbacks considering all the debt this team has and the FA market being out of this world and the 2 players Hairston (out of options & blocked), Callaspo is blocked by Drew, Hudson and others. Freddy would be a huge upgrade over whomever we had in the 2nd or 3rd spot last year.
  21. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 25, 2006 -> 06:37 AM) I don't claim to have any insight onto what actually happened, but I am convinced that Oswald was not a 'lone assisin'. That is exactly my opinion, I believe the Oswald was a shooter but not the only shooter there. That is the about the extent of my opinion.
  22. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 25, 2006 -> 08:44 PM) Nice deal by Josh Byrnes here. If Davis rebounds, they majorly win this trade, and Estrada was always going to be traded with Snyder and Montero splitting the duties at catcher. The D-Backs are my major sleeper team next season. Here's what their lineup and rotation looks like; Rotation: Webb - 3.10 ERA Davis - 4.91 ERA Hernandez - 3.76 ERA in 10GS for the D-Backs Cruz - 4.18 ERA Edgar Gonzalez - 4.22 ERA Lineup: Drew - SS Hudson - 2B Quentin - RF Byrnes (if he's re-signed) - CF Tracy - 3B Jackson - 1B LF - (Could be Hairston, Gonzales or a FA) C - Snyder on Montero Only one correction. Young will have the CF job and Hairston/Byrnes will battle for the LF spot. The loser will be traded according to sources with the Dbacks. QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Nov 25, 2006 -> 02:48 PM) IMO D. Davis is a solid pitcher, the thing about this is tho, brewerds traded him because he will be a free agent after 2007. I heard the real prize Arizona got though was Dana Eveland. His MLB numbers don't like good, but his MiLB stats do. And we also got rid of the fat/lazy whining catcher in Johnny Estrada. I didn't think it could happen but it looks like he replaced Javier Vasquez as most hated Ex-player. QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Nov 25, 2006 -> 02:44 PM) http://www.jsonline.com/watch/?watch=2&amp...06&id=14859 Doug Davis goes to Arizona, along with J. Erstada going to brewers. The Dbacks are still very interseted in Freddy Garcia or one of the Sox's starters. The Dbacks need another starter from somewhere and that stocked farm system should come in handy.
  23. QUOTE(SABR Sox @ Nov 23, 2006 -> 10:23 PM) Hopefully they could take Freddy off our hands if intersted. Plenty of intriguing players as well. There is not shot at re-acquiring Chris Young or trading for Justin Upton or Carlos Gonzalez. But Alberto Callaspo, Dustin Nippert and Micah Owens are all good prospects worth a SP. From Josh B's weekly shows he says that only CY, Drew, Carlos Quentin are the only untouchables. Byrnes seems to want Freddy why I am not sure. Deals that keep coming up are Nippert (Owings), Callaspo for Garcia. Seems like Alberto is blocked here with Hudson, Drew and Tracy. The other player is either Nippert or Owings both names mentioned. Owings I believe will be the better pitcher overall. To Arizona Freddy would be a savior because he would instantly become the #2 starter because of how bad the rest of the staff is. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Nov 23, 2006 -> 10:20 PM) Javier Vazquez Ooh you could start a war down here by mentioning that name. He lets just say not very popular down here.
