  1. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 06:21 PM) Of course, but that has mostly been by the media and most of Sox fans have defended Frank. Actually I have heard if for several years coming from players and people inside the Sox locker room. No, it is not only media driven.
  2. QUOTE(I-HATE-CREDE @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 06:20 PM) Who gives a s***, as long as he hits. Cancerous, selfish and greedy didn't seem to be a problem in 1993 or 2000. When the White Sox aren't winning, the Chicago media searches for scapegoats. They usually hone in on Big Frank. ok so not a problem in 1993 or 2000....... but what about the six years in between? Look I am not trying to get into a FT bashing argument here, but c'mon, it's not like those words have never been said. Carlos Lee hit and is still hitting better than anyone on this team right now, but the team is winning without him, are they not?
  3. I'm not the biggest Carl fan either, but I think the key here is that nothing is going to happen real soon. There is no way they will trade anyone until they are assured that Frank can stay healthy and that he will hit. Who knows if that will happen this year? I know discussing trading Frank is pointless because the options to do so are extemely limited, but one can't make the assumption that trading Frank would make the offense worse until you see what they get in return and how it affects the team. What if they traded Frank yet were able to get a 3B to step in and contribute (just an example)? My only point is hanging on to Frank as a fan and having a desire for the Sox to win this year, COULD be conflicting. It's a moot point anyway, but it is POSSIBLE trading Frank could help the club win.
  4. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 05:57 PM) I'm sure if Thomas was dealt, the Sox would make sure to dig out (make up) a lot of dirt on him, that the majority of the fan base would believe and suddenly Frank would be a cancerous, selfish, greedy, money hungry, wife beating, racist........ And this would be the first time you have ever heard Frank called cancerous, selfish or greedy??? Where have you been hiding?
  5. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 02:18 PM) Speaking of Sean Tracey, now the Phillies were scouting him heavily a week or 2 back, and I see this little bit of news; Could Sean Tracey be a starter they would look at? They've got Gavin Floyd though, so they'd probably give him first crack. Polanco has always been an option at third base though. Sean Tracey is not close to ready for the big leagues.
  6. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 02:03 PM) The backlash from Sox fans I think would be far too great for that to ever happen. You think attendance is bad now, what type of message will dealing Frank Thomas in the middle of a pennant race send to the fans? I find it somewhat humorous that so many Sox fans would be pissed if Frank were traded. I know trading Frank isn't likely because of his contract, injuries, etc. But the club has the best record in baseball without him. If trading him was viable and the club would keep winning, why would fans balk? Do Sox fans not really want a winner?? Dbaho, this isn't aimed directly at you. Just at the mindset that many seem to carry that Frank is an untouchable icon. If dealing Frank helps the Sox win, I say deal him yesterday!

  9. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:15 AM) I guess I should reword splits for stats. I just have the overall stats for May, not 'splits' per say. I've got them and can post them if someone can tell me how to post HTML in here
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 07:05 PM) He been called up already... I thought he was far from being major league ready when we traded him. My guess is this is too quick and he will be back in AAA before too long. I don't know the M's situation and why he got called up, however.
  11. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 07:05 PM) He been called up already... I thought he was far from being major league ready when we traded him. Morse was never close to that bad
  12. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 02:07 AM) I calculated the May splits for minor leaguers by using Excel for my May in Review article that I was going to write for FutureSox. Since FS is down for a few more days I figured I'd just post the spreadsheet here and write the article later. Of course, it won't attach directly to this site because it won't upload excel files for some reason. If someone knows a way around this or a comprimise, please tell me, it would be appreciated. In the meantime, if you want the stats you can just PM me with your e-mail address and I'll send it as an attachment that way. What splits did you do? If anyone can help me figure out how to post HTML in here, I can probably get stats posted.
  13. QUOTE(Nokona @ May 28, 2005 -> 04:21 PM) Wow, how often do you see the guys get ejected for being "right?" John Ambrose a former Sox farmhand got ejected several years ago after the umpire called a HR (grand slam actually) that hit the wall. He thought it hit the top wall and bounced back in, which would have been a HR. Ambrose, always the fiery one, ran all the way out to LF to argue with the umpire who had made the call. He got ejected by not one, but two different umpires. After the first sent him packing he went after the home plate umpire and he eventually gave him the heave-ho. Not sure if it was just to make a point or if he didn't see the first umpire do it. Ambrose was right, the ball did not leave the park. In this situation, the call never got changed, however.
  14. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ May 25, 2005 -> 04:17 PM) The Caly League really is what really messes up a lot of Big League Teams even if you are a West Coast Team there is no AA league close to California the Texas League is the closest league and their team is 1700 Miles away. The Sox's affilates Kanny, Winston, Bham, Charlotte all very close trips and then there is Great Falls....... lol
  15. Location is only one factor that goes into an affiliation match. Facilities are a huge factor as well is the relationship with the minor league club management. Also keep in mind that the minor league affiliate has an equal say, so they can send an MLB team packing (see White Sox and Nashville several years ago) if they choose. Teams look for the best overall situation and go from there. There is only 30 affiliates and 30 MLB teams at each level, so sometimes teams just get stuck with what is left (see White Sox and Calgary after Nashville). For the Sox, I do know that location is important to them.
  16. Mikey Mo is a great guy. I am rooting for him as well. Hernandez is as good as advertised. The Mariners were tempted to give him a starting job out of ST but they resisted.
  17. MLB players on rehab do not count against Charlotte's roster, so in effect, they should have 26 active players right now if they are at full strength. There is a limit on rehab time, however, so if that time is surpassed, and the players kept in AAA then moves to clear space would have to be made.
  18. The low # of rbi and 0 HR concern me somewhat..........
  19. QUOTE(minorsfan @ May 22, 2005 -> 03:55 AM) First off I am no "Dude"... And I wasn't disagreeing with anyone. I was just offering my insight from personal experience of over ten years in the sports ticket business as to why the announced attendance may be different than the actual attendance. C You're correct with the exception that season ticket holders are always counted not just often. The difference Friday night was rain. They had a huge boy scout night planned and many did not show up because of the nasty thunderstorms that came in around 4:00. I know there is always a difference between actual and announced, I just found the differential humorous. Don't mind me, I have issues....
  20. Tom what did you think of Pie getting hit in the head Friday night? I didn't think it was that bad as far as beanings go. He never lost motion until the trainers told him to lay still. Yeah, he was in pain, but he was able to get back up and stay in the game. Anytime someone gets hit in the head it is dangerous, but I didn't think this one was that bad, relatively speaking..... side note: I will likely be there Sunday.
  21. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 21, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) From the Barons press release... I know what the press release says...... I was also there.
  22. QUOTE(mannyfast @ May 21, 2005 -> 06:07 PM) From where I was sitting (1st base side, 3rd row) it appeared the catcher still hasn't tagged Owens. Of course I may be holding a grudge against that umpire. She's going to get an earful from me this evening. She is quite possibly the worst officiator I have seen in my life (including Softball games)! There is no doubt he tagged him... The tag was just high. It was hard to tell whether he had his hand in before the tag was made. My initial reaction was that he was out too. Unfortunately, there is not the benefit of instant replay and seeing a play from three angles after the fact. The SS made a great play (reminded me of plays Jason Dellaero used to make), let's give credit where credit is due.
  23. QUOTE(JimH @ May 21, 2005 -> 12:57 PM) Definitely sounded like Jenks was wild. He gave up 5 runs, only 1 earned though. The West Tenn announcer commented on Jenks being wild, he said those in the press box agreed that Owens was indeed out at that play at home ... said Stewart didn't take his time on the squeeze play, indicating he had plenty of time to make the play and may have gotten flustered. Stewart definitely rushed it, that's for sure.... But that is normal for a squeeze play. Players react quickly thinking they have to make the perftect play. He is looking at the ball facing CF, not seeing how close the runner is at the plate. The play should have been made, but it just isn't as easy a play as most people make it out to be. That's why the squeeze works, there is not much margin for error, so the players tend to rush it.
  24. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ May 21, 2005 -> 04:18 AM) I really though Chris Stewart changed into a D-Jaxx uniform he might as well first it started with the K of Pie that was a very blockable ball that allowed a run to score then the Squeeze I mean when the ball is right at your chest 6 inches from the plate and the runner is still 20 feet away I expect that he makes the play or lets it go foul then on a failed hit and run where the runner is dead to rights he throws the ball into CF and then for Iceing Sweeney's throw beats the last runner to the plate all he has to do is apply the tag instead he fires to second for a run down allowing another run to score. Nothing like giving the best team in the SL a 10th man on the field. Jenks I don't blame as much considering the defense fell apart maybe one run should have scored but that was it I gotta defend Stewart here a bit...... The squeeze play should have been made, but it was not easy. Stewart had to quickly come out from behind the plate, not knowing how far it is going to go forward. The ball was playable, but he is facing CF and can't see how close the runner is at the time. Everything gets hurried on a squeeze play. Pitchers often make errors trying to rush a toss back to the catcher. The play should have been made, but it was not as easy as it may have looked. I think he made the right play on Sweeney's throw. The throw was short and he had to take a step forward to catch it. I do not think he would have been able to catch it moving forward and then turn around and make the play on a runner sliding toward the backside of the plate. He saw the play in front of him and was smart enough to make the easy out on the runner. Stewart did look a little rough tonight. But there was another "bad throw" he made that seemed to be more of confusion over who was covering 2B. Neither the 2B or SS got to the bag. It wasn't a great throw but proper coverage would have saved him there. Jenks pitched like s***, from the very beginning. He was all over the place and had no idea where the ball was going. His delivery was inconsistent. Stewart could have bailed him out by making the squeeze play, but Jenks just wasn't good. He imploded after that play and it got ugly quickly.
  25. Quit listening, will ya??? Should have been an error in my opinion. The SS made a nice play to get Owens at the plate, but the ball wasn't hit that hard. They were arguing the play at the plate on Owens. He may have gotten his hand in there, but it was a close call. It was a great play by the SS to even give them a chance to get the out.
