  1. I'm not so sure the Hoosiers won't be better off after Bracey leaves. If he has any decent kind of year this year, he will bolt to the NBA and it can't be soon enough, if you ask me..
  2. Just like any new business venture. Profits are rarely realized right out of the gate.
  3. How can you throw a curveball where the thumb is pointing to the pitcher's body in the follow through?
  4. Guys it is not completely about winning percentage. Most big programs have excellent winning percentages at home. It is difficult to win on the road in most conferences. Be considered a tough place to play has a lot to do with reputation earned over time, with a unique or particularly hostile environment. Minnesota for example has always been a difficult place to play. The place is different with the raised floor and it can be very loud. The Gophers don't always have the best teams, so their record at home may not be what some others are, but that doesn't mean the environment isn't difficult there. I know IU has always had a tough time playing in Minny, regardless of how good the teams are.
  5. Is that game any good? I have never really been into basketball video games, but then again I probably haven't tried to play one in 8-10 years. Also, if anyone on here is well versed in the franchise mode of NCAA Football 2005, PM me. I need some guidance on how to recruit effectively. The first time I tried it, I only landed like 8 players.
  6. Gonzalez stay in Birmingham was short and he really struggled. He did show some pop, but not much else. I'll have to take the word of you and others that the potential is there. I agree that taking walks should help him as he moves up. He may be a guy who moves up one level at a time, perhaps even repeating a level, yet still reaching the Majors by 25.
  7. I haven't seen it either. I have seen talk that the $$ the Sox get from their new radio deal will be much lower than the previous one. Apparently the Sox had a really sweet deal and that day is gone.
  8. Helluva an idea you had there Yas...... ;-)
  9. I don't see Texas having a need for Crede. They already moved Texiera away from 3B to accommodate another guy named Hank Blalock.
  10. Sure Furcal would be a great addition. In fact, he would be a huge addition. But to say the Sox have no one waiting in the wings is a bit off, my friend. I am not sure it will happen, but I do think the Sox feel Uribe could be their SS of the future. The Sox also have three pretty solid SS prospects, albeit none are within two years of the big leagues. A long time Major League Scout (the Sox are one of the teams he scouts) said he lists Gonzalez, Lopez and Valido as potential MLB SS's. Gonzalez is still raw and has some growing up to do, but he probably has the greatest upside of the three because of his potential with the bat. Lopez had a solid year with the bat and held his own in a late season callup to AA. He is also playing well in the AFL right now. Lopez has very soft hands and is very fluid in the field. Valdio could be the best of the three if Gonzalez bat doesn't get better and if Lopez hits .250 at higher levels. Granted they are all prospects, but if one of the three make it, the Sox are a winner. Although they don't have the sure thing of a Furcal, they do have options.
  11. I agree....... I did start throwing curveballs at 13 and was always able to throw it well without any problems. I also agree that if you teach a kid to throw a curveball correctly, it won't hurt them. But not many youth coaches know how to teach them correctly and most kids would experiment on their own and not throw it exactly as they were taught. I used to coach in a competitive LL (11-12 yr olds) and breaking balls were not allowed. The rules allowed for a fastball, changeup or knuckleball (very few kids even tried) and that is it. If an umpire saw anything with overspin that a curve or a slider would have, it was immediately called a ball and the pitcher warned. repeat violations would cause the pitcher to be removed from the game..... that is if he had an ass left from the coach chewing on it because he threw a curveball in the first place.
  12. Might work if you send in your check for season tickets with it. Otherwise, you are just telling them something they already know.
  13. If it were a Game 7, I would bet they go for more than $1,000.
  14. Time to look at a map again............ Boston is northeast of Miami. Hell, Philadelphia, Washinton DC, and Syracuse are both east of Miami.
  15. NO, he would call the Sox and try to get a rumor confirmed. I think it would pretty easy for him to determine if there is any teeth to a rumor and just as easy for him to call Scott Reifert to confirm it. He might even know some people on these boards. Some people do have other connections in this world than just these boards you know. A simple for instance..... Steff knows Dave Willis and might even know Bruce, ya never know! I am pretty sure other people on here at least to some degree know people in the media or those connected to the Sox. And lastly, why wouldn't a beat reporter nose around on a legit message board? Sometimes, like in this instance, information becomes available here through personal contacts before the Sox release it.
  16. Face value for lower level tickets are $190, I believe. I had upper deck tickets in Atlanta in 1999 (had game 6, yankees won in 4) and they were $100 each.
  17. you don't count in this argument steff........... lol Actually, for the sake of argument........ let's say you don't have season tickets and were on the outside looking in for some reason........ what would you do then?
  18. With Red Sox World Series tickets going nuts on eBay right now (averaging $1,500+ per seat), I thought it would be interesting to think about a "what if" scenario. If the White Sox were in the Red Sox shoes right now, assuming regular priced tickets were sold out...... how much would you pay to see the White Sox in the Series? Be realistic please. Any idiot can type in "a million dollars". Try and think of the emotions you would be feeling about the Sox finally making the Series and what sacrifices you might make to be there to see it!
  19. buy them........... think of it as an investment....... you might lose or you might win big! Sell them to a Red Sox fan who didn't get tickets in Boston. Just send me a 10% advisers fee!
  20. She's saying that Levine or those close to him read message boards and got the scoop here. I didn't get the scoop by any other means than dumb luck. An acquaintance talked to Raines himself last weekend. He just mentioned it to me casually, not knowing it had not been announced. Raines was at a charity golf tournament put on by one of the Expos players.
  21. Put it this way......... if the Sox go out and sign Vizquel or any other free agent SS, it means that THEY don't think Uribe is ready to handle SS everyday. If they thought Uribe playing SS everyday would be thier best option to make the team better, then they will. So making comparisons to what Omar can do versus Juan is pretty much a moot point. It will boil down to whether the Sox brass thinks they would be a better team with him as their starting SS or in a different role. I really don't see why a guy failing a physical a year ago bothers you. He played a full season and played well. It is a year later and there were no physical problems (other than shoulder stiffness early on, which has healed). IF Omar had a bad year this year, then I might be worried he is playing hurt and the failed physical might concern me. But there is no evidence that he is anything but healthy. I am not, nor am I now insinuating that Omar is the only answer for the Sox. I don't know what KW has up his sleeve nor what his budget is. IF he can afford to go get a better, younger SS and still afford to make other changes that are necessary, then I say go for it. Omar just seems to be a good fit based on what we know now.
  22. I got another one............. disband the league all-together!
  23. I just did a search on eBay for "Red Sox World Series tickets" and got 319 matching items. I haven't seen any pair of tickets that has a bid for less than $2,000. Red Sox fans could probably fly to St. Louis or Houston, get tickets there and pay for a hotel room cheaper than just buying tickets in Boston.
  24. Very simply...... just like he did when he took Schilling out the night before. When you are going to bring a starter out of the bullpen, it is best to let them start an innning, which is how they are used to coming into a game. Bringing a starter into the game as a reliever with men on base is taking them out of their element. And what makes you think Pedro was tired? Christ, I have already told you it was his day to throw. Pitchers routinely throw a bullpen session in between starts. He was throwing 95-97 mph. Sure as hell doesn't seem like he was tired to me. If anything, my guess is that he didn't warm up enough.
