  1. Yofu won't get called up in Sept.
  2. If the Sox are still in the race, you will see very few callups....... if any.
  3. What was his act? I met him recently, but don't really know anything about him.
  4. Winston-Salem's success makes me wonder if Rogowski will be the player the Sox send to Birmingham to replace Nate Murphy. He played last night, so that makes me think it might not be him.
  5. Barons lost 3-2 in 11 innings....... Nice outing by Bullard, Fields and McNichol. Smith allowed a run in the bottom of the 11th. Nate Murphy retired after Friday night's game...... he led the team in both HR and RBI. Barons Lose to Huntsville
  6. BMac's combined stats this year...... 12 Wins 5 Losses 21 Games 3.39 ERA 130 Innings PItched 106 Hits Allowed 24 Walks 157 Strikeouts 13 HR Allowed .232 Average Against
  7. I'm surprised no one has mentioned the turn-back-the clock uniforms the Sox and Tigers are wearing today. I am not sure what the specific reason is for wearing them because I missed the very beginning of the broadcast. But I do know they are old Negro League uniforms of the Detroit Stars and Chicago Americans. I like the look!
  8. Not sure I could have said it better myself Yas........ Let me add the order of the waiver process..... Priority in the waiver process goes to teams in the same league as the player being waived first, in order of worst record to best. Then, teams in the other league have a shot, in that same worst to best order. For example, when the White Sox put Carlos Lee on waivers (teams put most of their players on at some point and withdraw them if a claim is put in on them) all American League teams will have a shot to claim him beginning with the team with the worst record. If none do, then National League teams can do the same. So, in this instance, the NY Yankees would have higher claiming rights than the Arizona Diamondbacks. Basically a player is placed on waivers and multiple teams may make claims. That is when the "pecking order" described above comes into play. The waiver period allowing teams to claim a player is 72 hours, I think. Going back to the info Yas gave us and the Lee example...... If Carlos gets claimed, the team that claims him (or has first right to the claim based on the order above) would then have to wait on the White Sox to decide whether they will withdraw the claim. The Sox have three options.... 1. Withdraw the claim and keep Lee (this rarely if ever is even made public, so most fans don't even know what is going on). 2. Work out a deal with the team that claimed him. This is more complicated if more than one team put in a claim on him. I honestly don't know all of the ins and outs if that is the case. 3. Allow the team that claimed him to keep him. They would in essence get a free player but would have to assume his contract. Sometimes teams will claim a player just to make sure another team can't get him. If the Sox don't want to take the chance the Twins make a trade for a certain player, they may put in a claim on him to block a potential trade, also knowing that the original team of the player would withdraw him. Once a player has been claimed by any team, he cannot be traded that year. Option #3 above prevents teams from making claims recklessly, because they could end up stuck with a player they didn't really want or can't afford. So claiming a player must be done judiciously. I hope this combined with Yasny's post helps clarify how it all works.
  9. In affiliated baseball, there are an equal number of Minor League teams for each Major League team. There were variations in the past (the Sox used to have 3 Class A teams - South Bend was the one in the middle), but those have pretty much gone by the wayside. There are 30 AAA cities (same for AA) to match up with the 30 MLB teams. The MLB teams seek affiliation agreements with each of those teams. Unless they own their own affiliates (Braves own Rome, Greenville and Richmond), the MLB team has no choice of location other than those 30 cities at each level. Sometimes teams get "stuck" with each other. For instance, a few years ago, the White Sox had to have their AAA team in Calgary for one year, because all of the other teams had affiliation agreements and the Sox and Calgary were the two left. Compare it to the last kid chosen on the playground.
  10. Beastly, how about just hopping into the already existing 9-page thread on this topic...... no need to re-hash everything again.
  11. Yeah, you are right....... guys like Andruw Jones, Rafael Furcal, Chipper Jones, Tom Glavine, Marcus Giles, etc. all really disappointed.....
  12. Kind of like people on message boards, huh?
  13. I was just about to add the same........ my hunch is that Charlotte will show the Sox the door, just like Nashville did several years ago. I also doubt the Sox will end up in Indianapolis. Indy is not happy with the Brewers and the way things have been run the past several years. Anyone want to guess who was running the Brewers farm system until this year? Yep, the Sox own farm director, Dave Wilder. I just have a hard time seeing Indianapolis re-align themselves with Wilder. I could be wrong, but those are my two cents. The Sox better hope they don't end up in Ottawa!
  14. Should we answer that???
  15. I'll repeat and reword........ Burke is not good enough to be a primary catcher in the big leagues.... He may be able to serve as a backup, but the Sox have Sandy for that role.
  16. Royce wasn't pitching badly..... his ERA was in the mid 3's. He just isn't the closer everyone thought he was.
  17. probably not
  18. platoon?? Try Kendall starting, Alomar playing once in a blue moon and Burke heading back to Charlotte.... Burke is not good enough. Kendall gives you a veteran, a catcher, and a leadoff hitter with a little pop to boot......
  19. I think the perfect player for the Sox right now is Jason Kendall. He can hit leadoff and catch. Covers two holes with one player.
  20. Why in the world would the Marlins want Contreras?
  21. Sweeney will not be traded.......
  22. FWIW, I have heard a comparison of Gio to Jim Parque, when Parque first came up and was in AAA. That may not excite some, but if you think about it, Parque was at least three years older coming out of UCLA and made it to AAA in his first season. For a kid three years younger to have comparable stuff is pretty good. The person who made that comparison liked him very much. He also told me that the Sox knew he was too good for Bristol, but they had a plan and figured on a promotion to Kannapolis if all went well.
  23. He gave up a 2-run HR the other night, I believe. That is his only blemish.
  24. I am still forming a specific opinion on Anderson. Some players it takes me a little longer to collect my thoughts, if you will. What I can say is that Borchard has tools, Reed has skills and Anderson probably falls in between the two with some of each. He seems like he is pretty solid in CF, but I thought Reed was as well and no one seems to think he will stay there. A scout I talked to last week (about several Sox players) said he thought that Anderson would eventually end up as a corner OF. For that reason, he liked Sweeney better, because Sweeney has a better arm and hits from the left side. Anderson seems to have pretty good patience. I have seen him alternatively have the ball just jump off his bat and hit a weak ground ball. Without getting much more into specifics (I will in time), I will just say that if he applies himself, he has the chance to play baseball for a very long time.
