True, but that would not make gammons a bad guy for reporting it. LOL I don't see this rumor having many legs to it.....

List of FA Pitchers
Godfather, I'll bet you $50 that Maddux will get more than $5 million a year.

Again, Josh, he just reports what he hears........

I agree......... He reported the "latest rumor"...... that's it.... there will be a million rumors flying around New Orleans this weekend. His job is to report them. Makes for a good Sportscenter and Baseball Tonight.... Lots of rumors will fly, most will have no wings and flop...... but that doesn't mean there is not talk.

51 Million
Keep in mind that when salaries are reported, they often include incentive clauses, options, buyouts, deferred money, etc. It is hard to ever know exactly what a player made or will make.

December 20th?
Guys who are in contract years 4-6 are eligible for arbitration, but are not free agents. If their original teams choose not to offer them arbitration, then they are in effect setting them free and they becme free agents. As was previously said, guys over that 6 year service time were free agents as soon as they filed in October or early November.

Pettite an Astro
I knew there was no way that one wouldn't pass free...... LOL

Question on Colon
Colon was a free agent once he filed back in October..... The arbitration deadline is one where the original club must offer or decline to offer arbitration. If the original club fails to offer arbitration, it loses the right to negotiate with that player until May 1st. If they offer him, they can continue to negotiate with him until sometime in early January. The player can continue to negotiate with all clubs.... The player has until December 19 to either accept arbitration or reject it. If the player accepts, he is no longer a free agent and the club will either agree to a contract (most common) or go through the arbitration process. If the player declines, he continues to be a free agent. Whether a team offers arbitration or not determines whether the original team gets compensated for his loss. That whole process is a whole other thread.

Or better yet, email Reinsdorf or Kenny directly with your concerns. And again, if you do so, do it in a classy, professional way!

ESPN 1000 Radio Show
That or a whole lotta people with no life! Perhaps the White Sox should have hired Francona instead of Guillen. Terry Francona goes by Tito. It was his fathers name and he carries Tito as a nickname. Always has.

The good thing about that is many a 4A player has given a MLB team a solid year or two before their talent level was truly exposed. Maybe Willie will surprise and have a solid season. Of course that will only lead to disappointment later when his production wanes, but that's a later problem. Funny, the Sox can use that excuse now, but not when they raise prices on tickets! Makes me wonder too. I would like to hear what the Sox offered him. I figured he might get that kind of contract, but I didn't think it would be two days after the arb deadline. Jason, don't buy the book. Catch me on AOL IM's one day and I will summarize it for you in 10 minutes.

Cubs rumor
Anderson's deal was $20 million over four years, ending after the 2004 season. I couldn't find a breakdown by year of the contract, but one would guess that it would be more in the final year of the deal.

No, he just runs like a 70-year old.

What troubles me the most about the Sox payroll
Paying Hawkins $5 million a year would guarantee us a berth in the playoffs?? Get real. We got Billy Koch last year, paid him well and he did s***. Colon pitched well for us, but wasn't as dominant as we would have hoped. I disagree with you completely on Colon and the difference between 3 and 4 years, and we will have to leave it at that. There comes a point where you have to say this is what we are offering and this is what we think is fair. If someone else offers more, you let them go and don't look back. If money is always the issue, you run the risk of becoming the Orioles real fast.

What troubles me the most about the Sox payroll
Jason, I agree with you that it would be nice to have signed some of the guys who have recently been locked up, but who is to say that KW didn't make offers? Who is to say that a player may not have taken even a lower offer with another team? There are still guys out there that can help, so there is no need to panic. People need to understand that just because ESPN or the newpapers don't mention the Sox, doesn't mean they haven't had conversations with a player's agent.

What troubles me the most about the Sox payroll
Paying Hawkins almost $5 million a year would have been stupid with our payroll. Colon's offer was more than fair. If the Angels want to extend themselves even farther then so be it. I thought what we offered Colon was borderline high. And yes, adding another year is committing another $12 million. If he breaks down in year one of that contract or he went 12-13 next year, everyone would be crowing about how bad his contract he has and how stupid KW was for offering it. Colon was offered the richest contract ever for a White Sox pitcher. Could we have used him? Sure..... But were the Sox sleeping for not matching Anaheim's offer? I don't think so.... Giving Alomar a two year contract would be another very risky move. The guy is getting up there and his talents are in decline. He cannot hit left-handed pitchers. Granted, I liked the effect he had on the Sox and like how he does the little things well, but in two years he could be just another Graffy, a part-time player. KW thought he had a deal and it fell through. Just because a player does not accept a deal or decides to look for a better one doesn't mean the Sox messed up.

Long story, they are all banned......

You mean other teams won't just give us what we want and take out problems? Are you trying to say they would make it hard for us to get better and make KW work at it? Surely not.

What troubles me the most about the Sox payroll
So what move have they made or not made to this point that you would have done differently? Offered Colon more money? Offered Gordon a two year deal and more money? Offered Sullivan arbitration and taken the chance he would have accepted it? I can't say I disagree with anything they have done so far. Their offers have been fair. All it would take is for Reinsdorf to raise payroll to $75 million, then offer Colon and Gordon more money, sign them and watch them break down or not perform. Then we could have a whole team of contracts like Koch's. Wouldn't that be a great idea!

And you have the right to ban who from this site? Move on, please.....

The good thing is that if it was even posted, it was posted on another message board, albeit the one on the Sox site. The only person who would read this or think about taking the time to respond would be Ncorgbl and I doubt even he would waste his time with it. A letter like that actually reaching Rensdorf would set back real Sox fans and their legitimate complaints two years!

It might not even be a bad idea to be accurate in what you write too, don't ya think? I could pick apart that piece of drivel in 5 minutes.

This was actually posted somewhere??? And with the expectation that it would have an impact??? This is a joke, right?
