I don't think Rowand playing CF today had ANYTHING at all to do with Lee possibly being traded. Mauel has a lot of guys he needs to get playing time for, so he has to juggle. He has several guys that can play multiple positions (including DH) so he moves guys around in order to try and get everybody AB's. It's not rocket science.

Carl Everett
Everett is more consistent than Lee. He has hit less than .200 for the last 5 or 6 weeks!

Interesting idea
It all depends on geography. Many teams have Minor League affiliates close by. But the MLB teams don't get to pick what city a Minor League team is in (meaning they can't just say we want one in Gary where there is no affiliated team). They can negotiate with existing Minor League teams to better their geography, but much more goes into it than just location. The Sox actually have done a pretty good job of keeping most of their teams together (once they got out of the exile called Calgary), they just aren't near Chicago. Only Great Falls is out of the way. The rest are all located in the southeast with 4 of them real close together in NC and Bristol, TN.

*Official* Jimenez traded to the Reds
Rex is Rex. He's a simple man from a time long ago who happens to live in Birmingham. I'm just a guy who has been around the game for a few years and likes baseball. Have seen it as a player and as an umpire (both college level) as well as a fan. Nobody important, just a guy with an opinion or two.

*Official* Jimenez traded to the Reds
I'd say either here or to Charlotte. May depend on who the Rangers are going to take. Birmingham has a 3-day all-star break starting tomorrow, so we may not hear until Thursday.

A much more fun title for this thread would have been: White Sox get Dunn from Cincinnati!

I'm sure they would like to, but they can't replace the whole team in Kannapolis. LOL If the Rangers take Webster, look for Anderson to be on the move rather quickly.

The Prospect List Revealed
I understand the concept behind the "hits given up are luck" theory. I think to a point, the book somewhat sensationalized the A's views on that. I believe that a pitcher does have a hand in controlling the number of hits he allows, even if he doesn't strike out a ton of guys. It's called command within the strike zone. But I also do agree that the more times the ball is in play, the greater the percentage for luck hits. I think in isolated circumstances that luck can skew the numbers, but not in the big picture. I don't have numbers to back me up but generally the guys with low hits/innings pitched ratios do it consistently, and they are not always guys with lots of strikeouts. That is why I do agree that WHIP is important. If a guy gives up more hits, but few walks, then he will be fine. If a guy gives up few hits but walks a lot, then he is no better off. Unless the first guy gives up a ton of home runs. I don't necessarily compute WHIP or look at the number very often. I just look at the same stats you do Jason and can come up with the same conclusion.

Neil Cotts
Neal Cotts has top of the rotation stuff. When he solves his problem with walking guys (and he will), he will be an excellent starter in the big leagues. No reason to trade him for an average Major League pitcher, especially when you have the depth to trade other guys.

Minor League Box Score for Saturday
Only question with Nachreiner is his health. Guy has pretty much no knees so the Sox took a huge gamble on him. First round arm, first round stuff, but doctors have constantly told him he won't be able to pitch. The Sox feel with medicine making advances the way they are, just to take a shot. They spent 200,000 on him and I'd say its worth the risk. What does anyone know about Bounds? I hadn't heard of him until this year after I read some articles saying he has massive power. I'm assuming he was drafted in the latter rounds last year? Either way he's looking like a potential legite prospect. The only thing is, its hard to tell with Great Falls cause the park is supposed to be an absolute band-box. Nanita is looking like a stud pick. Also, great game for Reed and Guillermo Reyes. Pedro Lopez is doing pretty darn good too with the average over .275. I'd say Lopez is a better prospect than Yan now, and its part of the reason Yan was on that list with the Rangers. Right now Lopez and Gonzalez are the big middle infield guys at the lower levels with Valido very talented, but still only part of a season thus far. Sucks Adkins got hit. This must of been his first bad start in a while. Thanks for the updates Cerb and Hudler. Bounds was a draft and follow from the 2000 draft. Didn't sign until just before the 2001 draft. He played in Arizona in 2001 and in Bristol last year, so this is his 3rd season in rookie league. He is 21 and wil be 22 in August. He had a nice year in Bristol last year .285 with 9 HR and 38 RBI and 36 BB in just 193 AB. He did strike out 48 times however. He is listed at 6'6" 210 so he is a big guy. Throws right, bats left. He really needs to be pushed to a higher level to see if he can handle it.

I have read both July 25th and July 31st, so not sure.

What are his combined numbers from W-S and Birmingham? I had to take my shoes off to count this high, but here are his combined numbers..... Avg. R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB K SB CS .371 52 106 22 2 7 60 45 21 34 10 Played 25 games in CF Played 54 games in RF Damn Interesting thing is...... You could change his batting average to .315 and keep the rest of the numbers and I think people would have been happy if those were his numbers for a whole season, not for barely more than half.

Question for Rex
I haven't really posted anything with any details just because I want to see him for more than a couple of games before I act like I know everything about him (that comes after 5 or 6 games LOL I will say this...... He has pretty much sucked in his first 4 home games. He only has 12 hits (.600 average) at the Hoover Met. He only has 9 multi-hit games out of 16 with the Barons overall. He has ONE hitless game out of those 16 (he'll never the Bigs at that pace). I haven't seen any cause for alarm in the outfield. He hustles his ass off and just looks like a damned baseball player. Based on those things, I guess he can probably overcome his current slump.

Reed just SUX Only 12 hits in his first 4 games at home in Birmingham. 13 game hitting streak as well. His one out tonight came with two outs and the bases loaded. I'd nitpick and say he wasn't a clutch hitter, but he hit that ball as hard as any of his hits tonight.

Yankees-White Sox Still Talking Trade
What the hell are you talking about?? Weaver has been back in the Yankees rotation for the last 4 starts, including one on June 29th. I guess since he hasn't pitched yet in July technically he hasn't pitched in a month.
