  1. Very interesting piece today, considering the events of earlier in the week. Mods, Is this an allowed thread?
  2. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 10:28 PM) A friend and I were watching and calling "Baseball Tonight" "Clemens Tonight" for the fact that 90 percent of their show was devoted to such things as "TEN GREATEST CLEMENS MOMENTS!" f*** them. I dont understand ESPN sometimes. Simply do not.
  3. Scott Ian. Or did I mention that? Oh, and my famous run-in with a certain member of Audioslave
  4. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:26 PM) Now I'm not the flubsessed type normally, however these splits are quite interesting...... Can I make a call that we NOT use this word anymore? Flubsessed?
  5. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 02:19 PM) Doesn't everybody think we've wasted enough time on Mariotti? And now we're going to get him fired because we don't like what he says. Gee, that sure sounds like another ballclub I know... Yeah, this wont work. Key is to not read his stuff. Armchair editors we are not, and cant just out him of his column. Man there have been a lot of witch hunts lately, he hheh
  6. Selig better not get involved in this Mariotti incident. If anything, let the SOX handle this privately. QUOTE(CardsJimEdmonds15 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 12:46 PM) Not surprising.. that's Selig for ya.. once an ass, always an ass.. There are other things he should worry about besides a little plunking here and there.. it's not as if the Cards and Sox fought..
  7. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 12:27 PM) No, he'll get additional games for his Moronotti comments. I'm thinking that Selig will give him 5 days and a $10,000 fine, which an arbitrator will probably knock down somewhat. What? Bud Selig will not FINE Ozzie for his blown-way-out-of-proportion comments. He was asked about a writer who wasnt even there.
  8. I like the Idea of drinking with Ozzie
  9. All I know about him is that he was drafted out of New Lenox here in Chicago area, hes very tall, totally nice guy. Met him a SoxFest with a guy who went to that same H.S. He grew up a SOX FAN. Will make for good press if hes successful.
  10. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 12:56 PM) There were plenty of people here who didn't think this team would choke last september. And there were PLENTY of people who thought we would "choke" last September. It was real and thats the way things went down. Sox fans are used to disappointment. To say Im less a SOX fan because we were playing badly in September is NONSENSICAL. Just as if I were to say all those who were confident were all Dreamers and less a SOX fan would be just as NONSENSICAL.
  11. QUOTE(CardsJimEdmonds15 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 12:43 PM) It's cool.. I dont have time to be an ass and Im not but if I was now would be the wrong team to be one.. we're getting our asses handed to us.. I appreciate and respect the White Sox and wish em well again this year.. it's a tough time right now and it could very well be a sweep tonight but I still root on the Sox.. I can stand losing to ya'll.. of course it's never easy losing games.. I sure as hell am not sure of a time I remember seeing the slaughtering we are getting.. but I'll live with it I went to the game Tues Nite and there were plenty of mad Card fans. 2 guys in particular, we were walking past them and the one was saying "Cant believe these bandwagon fans" I had to stop and educate him of course. Longshot was with me, and I basically said Cmon guys, we still love the cardinals, they loosened up. They were just upset about losing ....
  12. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) You're oversimplifying but let's be honest here: we ALL thought they were gonna choke in September, and that was hardly Mariotti alone that was talking that up in the press. And let's face it, up until 2005 there was no reason to think that the Sox would ever win with Reinsdorf as an owner. Not me, that's for sure. I'll be the first to admit, for instance, that I had my eyes closed until the end of September because I was thinking the unthinkable. I just didn't have the venue to write about it. Actually, I did: and I got banned. man, thats right, I forgot about that. People were deemed "less" a SOX fan for thinking we might not make the playoffs last year. Funny thing was, in the SOX WS Video (put out by MLB), there are numerous references to the slide the SOX had, and how they almost didnt make it, how the SOX players themselves thought UHOH, they reference fans being Worried Sick and even have a fan interviewed.
  13. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 11:39 AM) I'm kind of not. I thought the break last year would do him some good, but obviously it didn't. It's sad to see him dealing with things the way he has been. IMO, cutting away from baseball may be the only way he sees 30. He was really nice to me, I always thought that was cool of him
  14. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 11:46 AM) Yeah, but I thought people would be a little more rational and objective. Not surprisingly, I've already been straw-manned a couple of times and of course now I'm not a "real" Sox fan, because I don't hate some freakin sports columnists as much as I'm "supposed" to. heh heh, ive been called a cub fan by some here, dont worry. You brought up a good point
  15. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 11:37 AM) Ya know? I give up. I try and present an objective look at this and the pile-on begins LV, you brought up a good and interesting point man, dont worry
  16. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 11:34 AM) Boy, you really didn't read what I wrote, did you? How's that knee? Don't sprain it from jerkin' so fast... LV, A lot of the Mariotti/Reinsdorf animosity also got fueled back in 1994, during the Strike. In the days leading up to the strike, Jay Mariotti did some of the best writing hes EVER done, lambasting the Owners and uncle Jerry almost daily. He accused him of ringleading the whole fiasco (something which other owners have privately admitted) and had his own interests at heart. Reinsdorf was FURIOUS, and of course the whole strike thing happened and fans were furious at the owners, but in particular here in Chicago, SOX fans were livid because most believed the angle Jay was going with, and it wasnt that far-fetched, so did other writers. So theyve been 'feuding' since then ............................
  17. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) Well I knew that I'd get blowback for not crucifying Mariotti--and would you guys remember I did NOT say that he is never wrong--but it certainly is a mystery to me. That mystery is that, like I said, I read the guy every column (mostly) out of habit and I'm at a loss where everybody's claiming he's been so unfair to the Sox the past couple of years. Hell, there's been more than a few that I've read where he was right-on about us and especially in talking about how we're the "real" baseball team in Chicago. He called KW a genius GM for his offseason deals. Yada, yada. I guess I really don't know what you guys want out of a columnist. Where has he ever been so unfair to the Sox? LV, your saying that today Mariotti has a point and he does. Im with you on that. He has mostly been negative towards the SOX and saved all of his Rah-Rah articles for that other team. Of course, the SOX noticed this and privately told him they didnt appreciate it. Now mind you, some of the Negative articles about the SOX were Excellent and Timely, but then writing a piece saying AJ deserved getting punched? Ridiculous. I want a columnist to just tell the truth, and his many Ligue references have hurt the fanbase perception.
  18. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 11:26 AM) Mariotti is especially fair when he references the William Ligues of the world as being an accurate representation of all Sox fans (which he has done on numerous occasions). But to say that he has been fair to the Sox over the years is beyond comprehension. Yup. Hes written that stereotype so many times, people refer to us as that everywhere.
  19. Dont worry LV, Jim doesnt bite. The only things Mariotti is right about today, is that 1: Ozz didnt need to call him a name. The disproportionate of columns by both papers ripping on Ozzie is ridiculous. His alleging that the SunTimes has previously censored him regarding the SOX is a bit disturbing. He can bash the SOX all he wants, I just take his articles with a grain of salt, but 2: accusing the SunTimes of censorship is a pretty disturbing trend. He calls out his paper and also calls out the Tribune, something I havnt seen in quite some time, as both papers have operated pretty much with the same ideology. Even if 1/2 of his comment is bs, it certainly brings to the public eye the nature of Chicago sports and how its reported
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 11:00 AM) Duncan was not upset about Ozzie's "***" comment or even that his son was hit by a pitch, he understands that. He's just upset that Ozzie "lied" about calling the Cards during the game to apologize, though he seems what Ozzie said has been misconstrued. It's a "Jump to Conclusions mat". You see, you have this mat, with different CONCLUSIONS written on it that you could JUMP TO. Perhaps we can avoid jumping to conclusions before hearing any part of the story? YUP. Duncan was apparently "upset" about Ozzie saying he "called" Duncan about the incident, as was reported by Tribune writer Dave Van Dyke. The Score replayed the interview as it was recorded also, and found that Ozz actually didnt say "called". Van Dyke mis-reported. Score made sure to let everyone know that the Trib again misreported something involving the WHITE SOX
  21. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 10:56 AM) "How dare the White Sox let Damaso Marte get a win in the World Series?" "Why on Earth would they risk letting the ever-talented Mark Buehrle get injured by throwing him out for a save?" "Ozzie is a hypocrite. He plays for small ball, but lets Podsednik -- the King of small ball!!! -- HIT A HOMERUN?!" HEH HEH HEHEHEH
  22. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 10:48 AM) Yea, I didn't get that. Marriotti seemed to be pissed off his paper pulled a negative White Sox column during a World Series, first one in Chicago in 46 years, that the White Sox swept. What could he have been moaning about then? Considering all the garbage he writes that they do print, this must have really been ridiculous and petty. I would really like to know what it was about .........and the fact that he mentions Jerry Reinsdorf having been involved ............ very interesting. Was Jay being censored? or was the SunTimes being censored? I'll say this, when Jay leaves and retires, he will put out a tell-all book on the sports scene here, and I'll bet dirt will fly.
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 10:39 AM) Uh, he called out his own paper for being TOO biased FOR the White Sox. Wasnt that the kettle calling the pot black? He called out his paper and said they have to treat everyone FAIRLY. Fairly? heh heh. This is the same paper that did a fullpage article on Darren Baker. No, if you read, he is mad that his paper is seemingly taking the SOX side on this and has censored him in the past. Something a paper should NEVER EVER do.
  24. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 10:23 AM) If he doesn't desire to be the news, why does he continue to show his face on ESPN, why does he agree to discuss this story on the Score, why does the Tribune have quotes from him? Mariotti is the writers version of a "shock jock". He is paid to be on ESPN for his "shock" value. TheScore has been ground zero lately getting writers to "talk", Mariotti had some interesting revelations about the SOX & Reinsdorf, as well as his calling out of the Trib too, which im sure they werent happy with. He doesnt want to be the news is lip service, he doesnt mind this at all QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 08:49 AM) Thats why I like Oz that much more. He actually has the balls to tell people what's on his mind, which is what most of us are thinking but afraid to say to anyone, and makes no apologies for his statements. And thats why SOX fans have always loved Oz, he is exactly like SOX fans. Hes one of us
