Memo to Jim Thome: Please adjust to Inside Pitch
Hangar18 replied to Hangar18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 01:23 PM) Give him his media watches back, this topic is just plain pathetic. They were talking about the Media coverage of the SOX on the Score a little while ago, with Murph of all people -
Memo to Jim Thome: Please adjust to Inside Pitch
Hangar18 replied to Hangar18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 12:01 PM) Did you honestly think he was going to hit .310 with 60 HR's and 150 RBI? Delusional fans are awesome. I expected .280, 40-45 HR's and 110 RBI. I see no reason why that won't happen. I'm happy with what he has been doing. If you weren't prepared for him to strike out a lot then I'm not sure what to say to you. I didnt know what to expect from him entering the season. But that first month, watching the way he Selected his Pitches and Crushed balls, .310, 60HRs and 150 RBI was a certainty............... Going about things the way hes doing, he wont hit those numbers. -
I think the SOX figured, get it out of the way as soon as possible, and get him ready for the post AllStar stretch, as opposed to waiting around for the League to drag its feet for a month before hearing his appeal.

Memo to Jim Thome: Please adjust to Inside Pitch
Hangar18 replied to Hangar18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 11:35 AM) He has an adjustment to make and he will. Hopefully he doesnt spend the rest of the season trying to adjust to the inside pitch. Thome is just as dangerous taking walks and Frustrating the Pitcher to the point they try to sneak a fastball by him is what made him very Frank Thomas-like in April. Every mistake he scorched, of course this is the AL, the pitchers arent foolish the 2nd time around. Im thinking he hasnt been in the AL for a while so its taking him some getting used to again. But we need him to do so ........... Going 0 for 6 last nite hurt us very much, any kind of hit probably wins us the game. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 11:36 AM) 1st in AL in HR 2nd in AL in R 8th in AL in OBP 4th in AL in OPS 4th in AL in RBI 4th in AL in BB 2nd in AL in SLG Yes, he needs your advice. That was quite an APRIL/early MAY he had didnt he? -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 11:16 AM) Javy was ONE pitch away from keeping this game at 2-1. One freaking hanger. So maddening. ONE? How about TWO pitches. His best pitch appears to have been his Slider, and he got burned with 2poorly placed curveballs and 2 more ill-advised fastballs. The SOX did a good job trying to come back, but Vazquez has to keep his head in the game for every pitch, every inning that hes out there. He pitched good enough to Win the Game, but the bad pitches count too. He deserved the loss.

Well, after watching the PreGame on ESPN last nite, BBTN, The actual game, and then SportsCenter afterwards, its now apparent that ESPN LOVES THE TIGERS
-
Pitchers foolish enough to throw you something down the middle are few and far between. The others have decided to pitch you inside, inside, inside inside, until you get yourself out. Please take the Walks like you were doing early in the year, your trying to hit a homer on every pitch doesnt always work. Thanks and Good Luck

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 09:21 AM) This does one thing for the Sox... It turns this into Us against the World. The Sox thrive off of that. I heard AJ Rowand and Everett talk about this at the World Series

QUOTE(SoxFan76 @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 08:55 AM) However, I've been supporting Ozzie this whole time and while what he did was wrong, it doesn't deserve this much attention. It's a shame that Ozzie is taking all the attention away from the best team in baseball. What do we have to hear about instead? Ozzie said a bad word. Ozzie said a word referring to the biggest creep in sports, not to Chad and his boyfriend Trevor in Wrigleyville. Bottom line, I support Ozzie, but don't take the spotlight away from the team. Tribune columnist yesterday mentioned that this whole Affair is being blown up for no real reason, and that the Media was more offended than any Gay groups were. ESPNs Morgan & Miller spent the better part of the 3rd and 4th inning talking about this "controversy", but Miller ALSO summed it all up by saying that the Media seems to have made this a bigger deal than it really was. I said this last Tuesday and Wednesday.

Vazquez is the 5th starter we've always wanted, but never had til last season. His head isnt in the game as much as you would like, hence the "pitches like a 5th starter" tag Ive given him.

QUOTE(Scwible @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 02:37 PM) Only 2 beers......Anywho, I can see alright but not great without the contacts. I think they've made my eyes worse. Still mad at myself though that we didn't know till we turned away from him. I turned around in the street and tried to find him but I think he turned into one of the little subdivisions on the same street. Ahhhhhh, I see (no pun intended). You know what you have to do now ....... Is make sure you are somewhere where you can get his autograph or something like that, and relay that story to him. Im sure he will remember, be sure to tell him "I DIDNT HAVE MY GLASSES", im sure both of you will have a laugh. Your in a unique position and will be able to commisserate on a story thats unique only to you and Jenks QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 12:54 PM) Didn't seem to effect him last night. Heh heh. Reminds me of that line, where Nigel Tufnel, upset over the fact that the tiny bread keeps breaking, tells his manager "Im a professional, I'll rise above it"

Who is the Best Young Pitcher in MLB?
Hangar18 replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in The Diamond Club
I saw this and immediately thought of Scott Kazmir and Justin Verlander. Liriano of the Twinks is going to be dominant I believe in the near future. -
St. Louis Conspiracy Theory...Sox knew what pitches were coming
Hangar18 replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 01:29 PM) Agreed, and I kinda like it when everybody hates us.....I grew up with it since it was such a Cubs boner of an area in the late 90's and early 2000's, so it's fun to be hated again. I don't give a f*** what people think of us, were supposedly the bad ass team with weird fans in the bad area anyways, nothing wrong with being the misunderstood renegades that will kick your ass. I heard a cub fan call us the "oakland raider fans" of baseball. I laughed, never heard that comparison before -

QUOTE(holly wiggins @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 08:29 AM) Now, sign-swiping, like beanball, is a part of baseball and has been for what, a hundred years? But if the SOX do it, it's dishonest and cheating. Somehow, you just know, Ozzie and/or AJ will be alleged to have been behind it. Heh heh -
QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 12:51 PM) Can't take the heat, get out out of the kitchen. You can't be serious...?? The Gay community, and whomever else is offended, is only pissed because Jay told them to be..? Do you know any homosexuals..? Most I know don't even know who Jay is. Again, you think that a man with a public forum makes an offensive comment and it only got this big because of some sort of "witchhunt"...? Not maybe perhaps because it was newsworthy...? Oye ve.. What's assinine is that you think people can't think for themselves and rely on others to tell them how to thing and feel about something. Something made Scott write the press release... or wait.. gasp... perhaps he's part of the "witchhunt" also...? Making this bigger than it had to be...? Damn him... he should be fired IMMEDIATELY for adding fuel to the fire. :rolly Lets break down your statements one by one, because now you Lost me. "..gay community is pissed because Jay told them to be" This story is all over the Radio, which led to every newschannel, which led to MSNBC made a comment on it (note, gay person in Fremont NE watching MSNBC and hears "worst person in the world" comment about Ozzie is going to be swayed), to which ESPN has polls and front page cover stories on the issue, to NY sportswriters commenting now ........ So you think this was actually "newsworthy" Steff? Great. Most people think this was Blown Way out of Proportion. That doesnt make us "tinfoil" wearers. "Whats asanine is you think people cant think for themselves" to which you followed up with "I have friends who can think for themselves". ?????? What ??? People who arent in Chicago, who dont know Ozzie, and dont know about the long-running feud between Marrioti and the SOX are going see the 1000 stories about this and think , Geez this must be a big deal if they keep reporting this? He really must be "embarrassing". HES NOT. Dumb choice of words. "something made Scott write that press release...perhaps Gasp hes part of the Witchhunt?" How poignant. "damn him he should be fired for adding fuel to the fire". again, poignant. Reifert and the SOX did the right thing by issueing an apology and keeping it really simple. Where did I say Reifert was part of the Witchhunt? The part of the press release I wanted you to take note of, but you missed, was that Reifert said "anyone who was offended, we will apologize". I noted no groups outraged at the comment, demanding an apology (at the time) because guess what? People know he wasnt saying "I hate gays". He was angered (and baited) about a certain columnist and used a term that he later said means something else in his home country. Im not sure I buy that, but I get the gist of what hes saying. He doesnt hate gay people. And cant take the heat get out of the kitchen? So being in the Kitchen means Name Calling is OK?

QUOTE(Scwible @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 11:22 PM) So I'm driving back from a bar in Brookfield and hop on I-55. Running through traffic and behind a dodge charger for a while. Get out of the lane, someone cuts me off, run into the far right lane and hear a whistle. It's the guy in the dodge giving me the metal horns. Keep going, get off at my exit and I see that the guy is following me. I'm in the turn lane the guy drives up and talks, compliments me on my hat. I say yea, it's a good one. He says, you can't see my face can you? I could but just enough to someone be able to figure it out. Sit at the light for a few and then make my turn. At this point my girlfriend says, you know who that just was, Bobby Frigin Jenks. Made my day, month, year possibly. Thats a cool story. But you DIDNT Recognize him? shame on you! Hopefully, Jenks doesnt get a complex about this. I can see him in the clubhouse telling Joe Crede, "I saw a guy in a SOX hat and tried to compliment him, but he didnt even know who I was"

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 12:24 PM) You can cut the condescending s*** out right now. The "majority".. that means that there are some that DID find it rude, offensive, and embarrassing. Why are people in an uproar... because it was rude, offensive, and embarrassing to them. I understand just fine that the gay community made this a big deal because THEY WERE OFFENDED. Why is that so hard for YOU to understand? The term is OFFENSIVE to THEM. Why do you have such a problem with that? It's their right. And also their right to make noise about it. You seem to think - at least you are implying it - that the only reason they, and others are offended, is because some media member told them to be. That is just plain asanine. Of course it's happening. It happens all the time. Read more than the sports section and you will see that people protest all types of things all the time. You can cut the name calling out yourself missy. The only reason everyone has gotten offended is because this story was made out to be more than it really was, a manager who doesnt like a writer. The term is offensive, but this entire situation woulndt have "offended" as many people as it did had it not been for the Withchhunt Mentality that went with it. It isnt asanine as you say, to think otherwise. ABC7 reported on this and guess what? there wasnt one gaygroup mentioned or quoted regarding his apology. Reifert, the SOX vp of communications, said "to anybody who was insulted ....we'll certainly apologize". I didnt see gay groups marching in front of the Cell. I didnt see anyone faxing or writing Reifert and the SOX. So dont put words in my mouth and say "Why do you have a problem with an offensive term" Thats not whats at matter here. And as for Rick Morrissey calling out Jay Mariotti? screw Morrissey, The article is simply retaliation for Mariottis slamming the Tribune the other day on the Score. Hes simply doing the equivalent of a pitcher hitting another teams batter in retaliation for his teammate getting plunked. The only thing thats good about this, is HOPEFULLY, the SunTimes is finally deciding to get a Mind OF THEIR OWN and take on the Tribune and call them out for what they really are ............ Their direct competitor with a conflict of interest.

QUOTE(chiguy79 @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 12:14 PM) This is by far the most overblown story of the year. Everyone needs to get overthemselves. Marriotti is a tool (oh wait, can we not say that either)... I think Dave Chappelle should be censored also while they are at it. Bravo! You see ................ there are some SOX fans who think this Ozzie Witchhunt is way way overblown. Whats hard to see? And enough getting personal with me with Daves "tinfoil" references I dont appreciate it and believe the mods asked you to stop previously

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) Acutally it is. It's rude to suggest that folks can't think for themselves, and it's embarrassing for those that suggest it. IMO, of course. R&W, I'm not at all directing my comments to you at all. I'm moreso targeting the Reynolds Wrap wearing folk.. and Im directing this at you Steff. A recent poll of SOX fans showed a majority of them dont think what Ozzie said was embarrassing. Who is embarrassed then? Everyone else it seems. Why are they suddenly in an uproar? Because a group of people cchose to make this a big deal. Whats so hard to understand about that? It isnt rude to suggest that someone is probably making a comment based on the witchhunt-mentality currently at play. Or is that too hard to understand? Or is none of this really happening Steff?
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 12:07 PM) Despite what you might believe, most folks don't need anyone else to tell them what is rude and embarrassing. Almost everyone I know has a mind of their own and a sense of what is offending to them. Suggesting that they need a newspaper or someone on television to tell them is offensive to them, IMO. Par for the course... :rolly I agree. but others DO rely on that to formulate an opinion. The Cardinal fans Im not calling dumb, but they felt he might be "embarrassing" to the SOX. Because they READ that. Is RedWhite in Chicago now or on east coast??

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 11:33 AM) Please, don't make stupid unnecessary comments. Agreed QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 12:00 PM) Ok.. let me get this straight - no pun intended... Ozzie says something that many construe as rude and embarrassing... and it's only because the newspapers say it's rude and embarrassing that folks are now saying it's rude and embarrassing...? hence the 500 and somthing posts on the subject, the numerous emails Mariotti is getting, the heated debates on all the radio talk shows, and the ESPN cover stories.

The Rude statement is telling someone to stop pretending hes a SOX Fan (when its obvious hes a bosox fan)
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 11:36 AM) Telling a poster he's making a certain statement only because it's been written is nothing short of rude, especially when the person making the accusation apparantly isn't familiar with the poster. How is it rude? Im hearing people say this left and right. They werent saying this on Sunday. Some visiting Cardinal fans the last 2 days said its "embarrassing" that Ozzie is making the SOX look bad. I told them how did they know that. They said they "heard". I said from where? They said theyve been reading in the papers that the SOX are embarrassing. I told them SOX fans werent embarrassed. Guy next to me agreed. About 5 random SOX Fans behind my row all said the writer writing that was full of BS, Sox fans arent embarrassed. SO how was it rude that I said RedWhite was making a comment mostly because of perception? If RedWhite had a different answer, Im sure he will let me know HIS opinion, we dont need any Armchair Posting going on here. Whats rude is your continued nonsensical trashing of anything I say here. I thought you put me on "ignore". If not, please do so. Thank You.

QUOTE(peanut33tillman @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 11:27 AM) Why do you pretend you're a White Sox fan? your gigs getting old buddy.....not too mention how many "true fans" have 2 favorite teams anyways?? And about Ozzie's job being secure he just led us to our first World Series victory in 88 years and has this ballclub rolling again this year, Ozzie is goin NOWHERE nor should he Hes not a Sox fan, I think hes a RedSox fan. He brought up a good point, I just think hes going with a perception thats being widely reported .................. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 11:36 AM) This guy redandwhite has been posting here for a long time. He is well known to have his opinions, and he has a lot of them, and he formulates them all on his own. Some of his opinions I agree with, and some of his opinions I don't. Telling a poster he's making a certain statement only because it's been written is nothing short of rude, especially when the person making the accusation apparantly isn't familiar with the poster. I think you mistakenly sent that to me, when you were supposed to be sending that to PeanutTillman.

QUOTE(SoxFanInDallas @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 08:33 AM) Rick Morrissey has jumped into the fray against Marriotti WOW. How about this huh? I previously mentioned in other conversations how the Trib/SunTimes are lockstep in unison in the way they cover things, namely sports teams. Mariotti flat out called the Trib out on this, and now Fur is Flying, with the Morrissey saying Mariottis a coward basically. Its obviously more than that, with the SunTimes for the first time getting into a public dispute with a rival paper. Great Stuff! QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 02:04 AM) Point taken, but how is this organization supposed to be a first class one when there manager is an embarassment? SOX fans dont think Ozzies an "embarrassment". Its funny, but people only started using that word after a columnist SAID the Sox were an "embarassment". Ive heard it now more in the last couple of days then before. Your only saying that because thats whats been Written. Doesnt make it the truth
