Official Happy New Year, Welcome 2006, hope it is as good as 2005 was.

QUOTE(Felix @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 11:32 PM) But come on! He'll make millions and millions through arbitration because he's soooooooooo good!!!1 WCSox thinks he is the best thing since sliced bread!

QUOTE(farmteam @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 07:22 PM) If you have it on the computer, I assume so, but if you have the PS2 version you need a network adapter and an internet connection to connect online, or XBL if you have Xbox, and you can download updates from there. I don't have XBL so that could be a problem then.

QUOTE(Jake @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 12:12 AM) CUT THAT MEAT! CUT THAT MEAT! (charge song) CHARLIE! Your good too.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 05:20 PM) The only teams that do well in ST are the teams that have a ton of holes or aren't that good. Teams like the Royals will probably do very well in ST. Reason why is because they will be playing at lot more MLB players to try to fix the holes and see which guy should play which position. Teams like the White Sox who don't really have any holes right now will just play their regular players for a couple innings and go straight to the young prospect who could get a look in the middle or end of the season. We will pull what we did last spring.

QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 05:57 PM) all ive learned in reading this thread is that WCSox has a man crush on willie taveras and that juan pierre and sammy sosa have the best arms in baseball. LOL that's pretty much it.

Help me- good defensive plays from playoffs

QUOTE(JoshPR @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 05:43 PM) QWERTY, I never read that Quote in your sig. Rod Thorn Must feel like an ass right now.. You still give him that much dignity, he practically said that the greatest player in NBA history wasn't that great and they had no choice but to take him. -
QUOTE(Ishmookie @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 06:09 PM) From the high of the Chicago White Sox breaking their own curse and winning the team's first championship since 1918 to the low of Rafael Palmeiro earning a suspension for steroid use soon after collecting his 3,000th hit, the past year in baseball seemed to have a little bit of everything. Idiots. I think i heard them say that last night too.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 04:57 PM) Sure, but Taveras isn't at the tail end of his career. The chance of his skills declining quickly is significantly less. It's been real fun, guys, but you're not going to change my mind. Have a Happy New Year's Eve. We're not trying to get you to change your mind, just to shut up and let it be already.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 04:55 PM) But your argument is that Willy Taveras is a "proven player" because of his one good season (2005). Shingo was also good for only one season (2004). Couldn't Taveras very well suck in 2006 just like Shingo did in 2005? A "proven player" is a player who has put up more than one good season. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 04:51 PM) That's a weak excuse. MANY players go through four or five years of college without needing an additional four years to adjust to using wooden bats. They traded Takatsu because he was getting shelled. Some people can't make the transition from metal to wood. And that was part of why they released him, and they had to have a back up plan for someone to replace him.
-
QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 04:48 PM) If given the choice, yes, you should. Do you think that they would've gone with Jenks had Hermanson not had back problems? They traded takatsu because they believed he could do it.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 04:44 PM) What I see there is Borchard playing minor-league ball since 2000. And that's after he left Stanford. Did he not play at Stanford? And wasn't he injured in 2001? That's not anybody's fault. Sorry, but I don't agree that he was rushed. Not every player goes straight to the minors and spends 4 or 5 years developing there before hitting the Big Show. At stanford they use metal bats because it is college, so the difference is huge from metal to wood. He was injured so he can't play, after he came back he went almost straight to AAA after a whopping 29 games in rookie, A, and AA ball. I would defenantly consider that being rushed.

the only time he played more than 15 GAMES for a minor league team was in 2002. He missed all of 2001.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 04:35 PM) I agree, but it wouldn't hurt to have a good backup plan in case Anderson doesn't pan out this year. As long as the Sox don't overpay, of course. QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 04:31 PM) No he wasn't. When was he drafted? 2000? 2001? He played 16 games each in '02 and '03. He wasn't rushed at all. He was simply a big, fat, freaking bust. He was rushed through the minors where he could never develop anything.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 04:26 PM) (1) The Sox were rebuilding at the beginning of 1990 (2) For every Robin Ventura and Frank Thomas, there are several "prospects" who never hit well at the major-league level. How'd our last CF prospect (you know, the one that got the $5 million signing bonus) turn out? For all I know, Brian Anderson could be the next Griffey. Then again, he could be the next Joe Borchard. If the Sox are trying to win right now, it's preferable to go with a player who brings several positives (speed, defense) and isn't a liability at the plate than a guy who may or may not pan out. Of course, the price would have to be right to make such a move. JoBo was rushed and struggled.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 04:25 PM) The word on the street was that his watch was stopped at 4:20. Now it is all falling into place...
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 04:23 PM) They appear to be very similar offensive players. I doubt Taveras flames out as quickly as Caruso, if I'm not mistaken Caruso spent too much time around a bong and not enough working on getting stronger and becoming a better baseball player. But I'm sure if you asked 100 scouts who they would rather have between Anderson and Taveras, a big majority would say Anderson. Are you serious?
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 04:19 PM) 34 major league at bats. Jesus f'ing Christ. It's kind of hard to judge someone on 34 AB's.
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 04:18 PM) ..and you know what, f*** Mike Caruso's 1998 season where he proved to be a .306 hitter. His OBP was a pathetic .331, but unlike Taveras he had a BB/K of 14/38 instead of 25/103. He also stole bases at a better rate than Taveras too. So mike caruso is better than taveras?

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 04:17 PM) Is there still time for me to pad my post count? Sweet..... I mean....uh......we better not trade contreras!!! That's all this thread is.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 04:16 PM) After that he didn't play in the majors until 2002 when he had 2 hits in 20 at bats, and that was all for him. At least he had one good year.
-
QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 04:16 PM) Good question. Is Brian Anderson starting CF material after hitting .176 in 13 games earlier this year? Has he "proven" to be worthy of a starting position on the defending WS champs? you still didn't answer, you just asked another question.
