  1. QUOTE (ptatc @ May 8, 2009 -> 03:56 PM) most of the time pain in this area is caused by too much heel strike. When you contact the ground it should not be with the posterior or middle part of the heel, it should be toward the front of the heel. there are many reasons for this improper striking pattern it is usally just habit or over striding. during the first part of your run go slower and try to land on the front part of the heel. Don't try to do it all at once because the change can cause others problems. Ease your way into it and the pain will dissipate. From the description you gave it sounds like you strike it quite a bit of supination. In this position your foot is rigid and doesn't absorb the forces of impact properly. If you land further forward on the heel you'll land more into pronation and this will decrease the force in the area. Thanks man, I appreciate the advice. I just got back from a run trying out my new kicks. No shin pain, at least not in the way I had it before, just the basic knee (I havent been running in a year) type strain. I feel pretty damn good. I could tell these shoes were keeping my feet a little more steady.
  2. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ May 8, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) Do you have Hogs of War for Windows XP? If I have something, its 100k+
  3. QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 8, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) I'm sure you would, and so would most modern uber health nuts. People overdo things these days, anyway you cut it. If they eat bad...they tend to eat REALLY BAD. If they eat healthy, they tend to eat TOO healthy. People have lost their way in understanding and grasping the concept of moderation. We live in an extreme age. Whether that extreme being uber healthy or uber crappy...it's extreme...and it's bad. There IS a happy medium...but that happy medium is different for EACH individual person, no matter how you slice it or dice it. There is no universal diet. What works for you does not work for me, and visa versa. There is, however, a balance for each individual, and it's up to them to find it for themselves. But eating nothing but modern health crap isn't necessarily any better for you than eating garbage all the time...and I say that because unlike the person above (forget the name off hand) that mentioned eating non processed whole foods -- the majority of modern dieters eat processed diet foods almost EXCLUSIVELY...and they're filled with chemicals which haven't had the 30 years of study necessary to know if they're any better for you (or even worse for you). Feel free to disagree with me, but you won't know if your right or wrong until a lifetime of data on these modern diet chemical replacements prooves otherwise...and my bet is on them being even worse for you than the real thing they're trying to save you from. Well you are really directing your comments towards two pretty different dieting techniques. People who eat mostly processed "fat free" prodcuts and people who maybe focus on the organic whole or raw food type of diet. I mostly stay away from processed foods because my body has a hard time digesting it, focusing mainly on organically grown fruits and vegetables, whole grains and natural oils. I am not doing it because its low in fat or sodium, but because my body runs much more efficiently when filled with more natural healthy fuel.
  4. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 8, 2009 -> 02:24 PM) To that end, hasn't Paulie been a breath of fresh air this year? He's really working that right center gap. That injury clearly was a giant factor last season. He totally gave away the inside pitch which made him half a hitter.
  5. QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 8, 2009 -> 02:35 PM) You sell your own software or resell? OUR own. I work for a software company, so I sell directly from the source, and not the stuff that you find on a home PC. Think more like the stuff that assures you are you when you log into Chase Bank online.
  6. QUOTE (danman31 @ May 8, 2009 -> 02:44 PM) I'll buy Jordan pushed Scottie to be better, but the Bulls went to a conference final without Jordan and we all know how that went down. Scottie was at least a Hall of Famer on his own team. Yes, but does he get to be that player without Jordan pushing him? The only example anyone ever uses is the years Jordan was gone, long after Scottie had become the player he was. I think he may have still been a top 100 guy, but few remember how raw Scottie was as a player when he was drafted.
  7. QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 8, 2009 -> 02:18 PM) I really feel sorry for some of you dieters. I know these diets...I know these types of crappy flavored light/fat free foods...I'm happy my metabolism allows me to basically eat what I want while retaining a muscular build. Eating "healthy" is 1) expensive, and 2) a pain in the ass, and I put healthy in "'s because healthy and this new-age modernized uber healthy are vastly different things. I dont particularly eat processed low fat foods as much as more organic whole ingredients, mostly because it helps my digestion. I think everyone who diets needs to build in cheat days though were you get to indulge.
  8. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 8, 2009 -> 02:20 PM) I thought you were a lawyer.......or maybe just play one on Soxtalk. Nope, wrong guy. I sell software.
  9. I'd rather give someone like Brandon Allen a shot at the big league club than bring back Jimmy.
  10. QUOTE (Texsox @ May 8, 2009 -> 02:06 PM) Would you pay $50 to $60? I'm not saying there are not advantages, but the tax revenue figure is a joke. And the savings in law enforcement are not complete either. Someone has to enforce the tax laws, someone has to be certain the marijuana is legal and not black market. So the law enforcement cost may go down, but it will not be zero. The biggest cost savings may be the prisons will have a few less inmates, but even there the marijuana lockups are very small. Im not sure the cost would go that high, but there would be an increase. Right now alot of the cost is bundled in the transportation of the substance which is where the hike comes. The tax revenue figure has been researched at ends by several organizations. Also it doesnt totally figure in the actual taxes of companies which may start to produce and distribute marijunana which could increase the number. I would really check out the documentary that I cited earlier on Mendocino county. 3/4 of their county revenue is from marijuana growth I believe.
  11. QUOTE (Texsox @ May 8, 2009 -> 02:03 PM) I believe the greatest gift Jordan gave Pippen, and what placed Pippen into to top echelon of players, was the desire to play both ends of the court. It is very rare that one player would be the top player offensively and defensively, but those two were #1 and #2 on both ends. My guess is on a different team, Poppen becomes a far better offensive player and never comes close to his defensive potential and retires a very good, but not top 100, player. Scottie was notorious for being extremely cautious and paranoid when it came to his talent. I honestly dont know if he would have developed as the player he ended up being, especially since his stock and development at the time of his draft was uncertain. His pure hatred of Jordan was really what led him to grow into the player he became, which actually brought those two close together.
  12. QUOTE (Texsox @ May 8, 2009 -> 01:54 PM) There is no way that pot smokers will accept the price increase that would come with legalization. People forget that with legalization, will come product liability costs, marketing, distribution, FDA controlled manufacturing, multiple profit centers, and other costs. Then add a sizable "sin-tax" and you have a price far higher than what is paid now. Add to that the ease in which a quality product can be grown at home. The already in place black market, and I just do not see all this tax coming in. First, its not that easy to grow at home since seeds are also illegal and not exactly easy to find. Second, with the legalization comes increased quality and availability, both of which would be worth a price increase. Right now pot isnt exactly a cheap drug, you still pay on avg 15-20 dollars a gram street price, with total inconsistent quality and brand control. (for folks that dont know, a bag of weed isnt the same no matter origin, strain, method of growth etc.) Like any drug, regulation has its ups and downs, but i think that the ups far outweigh the downs.
  13. QUOTE (AssHatSoxFan @ May 8, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) I pronate so I got shoes that stabilize the foot and prevent it from collapsing towards the inside with a stiff piece of plastic. Try to find a runner specific store that should watch you walk or run and can find a shoe to stablizie your running motion and eliminate your pain Thats what im thinking, i got my new shoes to focus on that a bit. I was told that I had been running in the worst possible shoes I could buy (Nike Shox)
  14. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 8, 2009 -> 02:08 AM) What in the hell was that? It felt like a fan written episode or something. Very bizarre. I thought it was one of the funniest ive seen in awhile. This season has been great.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 8, 2009 -> 01:43 PM) How many of the top 50 guys can you say that about though? What if Stockton and Malone had never been put on the same team? What if one of those #1 draft pick busts hadn't gone to the Clippers? I'm just saying, having Scottie next to him shouldnt diminish the player he was.
  16. QUOTE (AssHatSoxFan @ May 8, 2009 -> 01:44 PM) are you a pronator or a supinator? I wear out the outside of my shoes, towards the heel. My feet naturally roll a little towards the outside, which made me turn alot of ankles growing up.
  17. QUOTE (Downtown518 @ May 8, 2009 -> 12:39 PM) I have a question regarding property taxes for anyone who may know….. I bought my first house in July 2008 for under market value. My realtor told me that my first tax bill would be based on the sale price I bought the house at. I recently received my first tax bill, for 2008 taxes, and on the bill my taxes were based on the assessed value of the home. So assuming she was correct, should my 2008 bill be based on the sale price of the house? Just looking for a little knowledge before I start making phone calls. Thanks for your help in advance. Go Sox!!! Its the assessed value unfortunately, but there are exception programs or you could hire a lawyer to decrease the cost. I hired a lawyer for my entire building and my taxes went down a couple of thousand bucks.
  18. QUOTE (ptatc @ May 8, 2009 -> 12:38 PM) For those interested, I've attached a power point that I use to for talking to physical therapists, podiatirsts and such on training for runners. I've worked with runners for many years and have done 12 marathons. the principles are based on my own research and the references listed at the end. Dude, I need you to help me with my stride. I have run for a few years and lately I have had serious shin pain (not shin splint like pain) but almost muscular or focused just above my ankle. I think its my nike running shoes that I switched to and only recently bought a new pair of sauncony shoes to see if that was the issue.
  19. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ May 8, 2009 -> 12:39 PM) And just because a majority of people think it's right, doesn't make it so. I just don't see how hitting players or brushing them back directly effects the outcome of a baseball game (i.e. helps you win). Stop saying "because it makes them feel comfortable" because frankly it's unmeasurable and dumb to argue about. Get hitters out and beat them at baseball, that's what drives them nuts. Please show how it being out of the game would directly affect the outcome of the game (i.e. helps you win). Its becoming fairly clear you havent spent much time in a batters box or in a locker room.
  20. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ May 8, 2009 -> 10:59 AM) Actually I don't mind it, but I was VERY embarrassed to be a Blackhawks fan after that crucial Canucks game at the end of the regular season, where all the fights happened. But notice how fighting is cut down a lot in the playoffs, why, because most of the time it's silly garbage. Yeah it's fun to watch, and sometimes fights are warranted, but anytime you can favor skill, speed, and talent over fighting, I'll take it. Brawls arent the only form of self policing, just like beaning someone is different than a brush back or a drill in the back. Playoff hockey still has alot of policing regardless of if it ends up in a fight. If Kaner gets knocked down hard, you bet your ass Eager or Barker will be in that guys grill immediately. Its the same with baseball, especially in the AL.
  21. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 7, 2009 -> 08:10 PM) I'm wondering if a hockey player has had a worse series than Matt Walker has had for the Blackhawks vs the Canucks. My goodness, that man is playing absolutely horribly. Keith has been pretty brutal as well, he had a blueprint giveaway last night in OT that was the same goal he gave up in game 3. Obviously overall he is a better player so I expect more, but he's had some lapses that really were uncharacteristic.
  22. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ May 8, 2009 -> 01:11 PM) Nevermind how he was that whole damn team, going up against basically the NBA dynasty of the 2000 in the Spurs. And wasn't it LeBron who by himself beat the Pistons in the 4th quarter that year? People really need to remember Jordan lost a few series before winning anything. And oh yeah, he had one of the 50 greatest players ever on his team. When LeBron has someone halfway decent playing along side him, let me know. I dont think Scotty would have been considered a top 50 guy if he never played with Jordan.
  23. Leaving for Mexico in 5 days! I hope the europeans still stay away.
  24. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 8, 2009 -> 10:45 AM) The sox won. Don't you have anything positive to offer other than bashing negative posters? Yes, I feel that through channeling their misery through something more constructive than agonizing over a sports team that will fail about 50% of the time, they may learn to lead happy lives.
