  1. Looks like David Lighty is going to be a med redshirt this season.
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 01:00 PM) None of those images show he definitively touched with the right foot. The second one is an odd angle and the bottom most tip of his foot is in line with the red in the background. That does not mean it is touching. If Odd Angle means showing his foot dragging on the turf, then yes, its an odd angle.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 12:05 PM) Didn't Dye put up numbers like that though a few years back? Didn't he hit .400 with 2 outs with RISP or something? 2006 like the rest of that lineup. I think its safe to say that was an outlier. For their careers Abreu pretty much b**** slaps JD in those situations. He's a better run producer and a more clutch hitter with runners on base.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 08:00 AM) Not only that, but he went grocery shopping on his own and his house looked kept up. Also, he had at least some communication with a couple nephews (dont know the frequency). That all points to there being a pretty good probability of him having enough of his senses to know that he cant go a year without paying his electric bill. But damn those people who dont let people get things for free. Murderers. Im just saying, alot of folks on here are assuming he was senile or couldnt function, but i havent seen anything mentioned of that sort, so I am wondering what kept him from paying his bill?
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 10:08 PM) RBI is a dependent statistic and has nothing to do with the caliber of the player himself. He had Johnny Damon (.375 OBP) and Derek Jeter (.363 OBP) hitting in front of him most of the year. Dye had guys who either got themselves home or didn't get on base much hitting in front of him. Abreu: RISP: .296 .372 .450 (169AB) Runners on: .317 .397 .541 (290 AB) RISP 2 outs: .382 .433 .618 (55AB) Dye: RISP: .269 .304 .429 (156AB) Runners on: .273 .328 .472 (267AB) RISP 2 outs: .210 .269 .306 (62AB) Maybe their total RBI numbers are dependent, but you can clearly see what each player did last year when put in the same situations, Abreu made much more of them. And BTW, they both had about the same number of chances, so Im not sure how much the players in front of them had to do with it.
  6. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 03:11 AM) haha. you do know that you also have to play at the nation's greatest arena, AFH. I see KU splitting with Mizzou this year, but Self is doing a wonderful job with thte nation's 12th youngest team and getting 75 percent of scoring from underclassmen. I feel ya. I've been watching 2 freshman and 2 sophs score all my team's points.
  7. QUOTE (daa84 @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 09:05 AM) theres a huge difference, and if you can't see that i'm sorry. nobody knows a damn thing about 98% of these high school players, other than what we read on scouts, rivals etc. We read scouting reports, but never see most of em play (short of a few highlight clips) so we don't know a damn thing about em. I can read a scouting report on Hawthorne and see he's fast and has good size, but the report says same thing for Appleton. You can't debate which one youd rather have, except for maybe saying that espn has one graded an 81 and the other an 82. You can intelligently debate with the NFL draft. In the NFL draft you can say...oh I want stafford over sanchez, or sticking with receivers harvin over nicks. You have a feel for the player having seen them play in college. You can also get a feel for their competition and how well they did against top competition. They are both a huge crapshoot, and the only reason its a ton easier to know players in the draft is because the sample size is so small. In both cases there are players that nobody has seen that turn into a success out of nowhere.
  8. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 10:29 PM) ESPN has Will Campbell rated as the #21 OT in the country and not in the ESPN 150. Scout has him listed as the #6 DT and #48 overall as a 5-star. Rivals has him listed as the #5 DT and #26 overal as a 5-star. On ESPN's coverage they stated he "also plays on the defensive line, but will play on the offensive line at Michigan". Where is the disconnect here? Will Campbell, while he could be a stellar OT, is slated to play DT and DT only at Michigan. He played in the US Army All-American game on both sides, but only on offense because they lacked depth. He started at DT. ESPN also doesn't have Justin Turner in the ESPN 150. By most accounts, he is either the top player from Ohio or one of the top 2-3. Scout has him as a 5-star and Rivals a high 4-star. Yet ESPN rates Isaiah Bell ahead of him? I can't make any sense of it. Turner not in the ESPN 150 is a classic case, he is easily the #1 or #2 player out of Ohio (him and Fellows could swap). ESPN is f***ing dumb.
  9. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 07:43 PM) Oh yeah, I heard about it. I was in my 8am class when I hoped on one of the Tennessee message boards and read about it. Plus, I heard officially about his choice of UGA about an hour before he announced when my buddy (who works in the main offices of the College of Business building) called me and said he had just overheard our Athletic Director talking to the Dean of the Business School about Marlon Brown "screwing us" over. That was what sucked out any hope I still had left that the OSU gear was a ploy. Not trying to act like I have inside sources or anything, but I just thought it was funny that my buddy was just outside the Dean's door and stopped to listen to the conversation b/c he heard Brown mentioned. You insider!!!! Thats a funny story.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 06:58 PM) That's all by way of saying "Beer = Good!" Ahhh

    Superbowl Food

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 05:43 PM) I'd actually be impressed if a Cubs fan had the god taste to even do extract brews. But I am quite impressed you're doing the mash - and a nice variety as well. Did you have any problems with a stuck mash with all the glutens in the unmalted wheat with the witbier? My first full-mash wit, the grain bed set up like concrete and it took hours to sparge — had to remove most of the gran and batch sparge it a t at a time. Beer came out nice though. Job, kids, and life in general has shelved my brewing for now. When I had the time, I was doing usually one double batch a month in a parti-gyle sawed-off sanke keg system that I could do a single large mash in, then batch sparge into two separate kettles. I'd either split the first and second runnings for two different gravity brews, or I'd collect identical runnings in both kettles and then add different hop bills and specialty grains during the boil to get two different beer styles. If I was feeling very ambitious, I'd do a second mini-mash in an Igloo cooler setup and then add that to one of the kettles to achieve specialty styles. Brew day was definitely a full day. Dang I miss it. Keep On Brewing!
  12. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 06:12 PM) Not really. Last weekend Lane Kiffin informed Thigpen that he wouldn't fit in on offense for us, which is where the previous staff said he'd play. When told that, Thigpen started looking elsewhere. At least Kiffin was being honest. I wasnt aware of that. Did you hear on the radio about Brown wearing an OSU shirt to school only to pick UGA? What a little f***er, although he's scary good.
  13. If he had 600k, what kept him from paying the power bill?
  14. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 03:49 PM) It's a joke that ESPN still thinks Florida has the best class in the country, let alone the SEC. But then again, ESPN's recruiting coverage is a joke. I think by now everyone who pays attention to recruiting knows that ESPN's coverage is a joke. They are very ill-informed.
  15. Updated rankings per rivals: 1. Bama 2. LSU 3. USC 4. OSU 5. Texas
  16. Quentin, Poreda and Danks for Sean Marshall and Angel Guzman. The cubs then flip them for Peavy.
  17. Brown headed to UGA. Crap, I knew it was a smokescreen, he would have looked pretty good next to Posey and Carter
  18. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 01:32 PM) I can't stand the holier than thou people who say we're stupid for finding today interesting because recruiting is inexact and these are 17 and 18 year old kids. They are idiots, today is the college football version of the NFL draft, except the teams get a lot more players today than they do that day in April. Anybody who says today isn't important but follows the NFL Draft (and the latter group includes almost everybody who says today isn't important) is a hypocrite. Michael Wilbon, who I normally like, is one of those people and he should be ashamed. I think some people talk today and it's importance over the top, but most people (like everybody posting in this thread today) take the events of this day for what they are and just have fun with them. And sorry for that rant, but I wanted to throw this topic out there. Signing day is not unlike a draft for some of us, I LOVE recruiting.
  19. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 01:32 PM) Ole Miss now has 35 commitments. North Carolina and South Carolina have 29. Texas A&M 27. How many of those 35 stay eligible?
  20. QUOTE (scenario @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 01:03 PM) But... if Brian Anderson was included in the deal, you wouldn't drive them to the airport... You'd have to drive them all the way to Seattle... Because that would be an epic road trip. I'd send Brian Fedex and buy Q a first class ticket.
  21. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 01:03 PM) Yeah I pretty much decided that was the team I'm going to go for about a couple of games there. So you're a soft verbal? What can I do to convince you to cheer for OSU?
  22. Alright all 25 are locked down for OSU, now we wait on Brown.
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 11:51 AM) without thinking, Quentin's a Mariner I'd drive him to the airport.
  24. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 12:45 PM) Missed that my fault, and USC just landed Jarvis Jones another top 100 player. Now it is hard to say the class if falling apart even by their standards. Got Starling too
