Official 2008-2009 NHL Thread

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 11:19 AM) Yeah I'm impressed with Ladd and Bolland as well. On most other teams they could easily be playing on the 2nd line. Both still have room to grow also. Bolland is really growing as a player and Ladd is a perfect compliment on that line. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 11:26 AM) It sounds like his grades are terrible and ASU has a program at the school that is designed to basically keep even the dumbest people eligible and that is why he chose ASU. That makes more sense, anyone can go to ASU. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 11:24 AM) Yeah they are having a good class. Did they sell you as a fan when you visited? Nice. Probably the beautiful setting in gorgeous downtown Newark. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 11:22 AM) I don't get why kids do that, didn't Shaun Livingston wear Illinois gear the day he chose Duke? And another example of this happened yesterday. A girl I know who goes to USC lives next door to Byron Moore, who is a top football prospect. She saw him yesterday in Notre Dame stuff, and today he picked USC in ESPNU. I get when kids switch commitments or wait until the last second to decide and weigh their options, but pump faking is just a dick move. Its pretty dumb IMO, but im sure the kids think its fun. Thats basically the only player out there that OSU is really hoping for and needs, but he'll prob stay south. -

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 11:18 AM) I heard Rutgers is having one of their best recruiting seasons in a while? Sitting at 39th in the country right now which is pretty good for them. Alot of 3 star guys and 4 4stars. -

Radio out of Knoxville has Marlon Brown wearing OSU gear in school, makes me think its a pump fake and he will actually choose UGA. -

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 11:14 AM) If the Hawks can get him re-signed for 4M a season, I think they have to seriously consider doing that. He gives you that much needed scoring punch from the 2nd / 3rd line. Something like a 2 year deal would be reasonable enough. His line has arguably been one of the best of late. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 11:14 AM) He visited Notre Dame, but I tend to agree with the unmarked bills comment in that this one is a little fishy. I didnt even think he took an official there. I thought it was USC, BYU, UCLA and Stanford. There is nobody who isnt shocked by this one. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 11:09 AM) Lack of playing time available, eventually, will cause USC some problems recruiting in my opinion. Not big problems, but kids want to play early on. And wow, Manti Te'o picks Notre Dame. Now that completely shocks me, he is deeply religious in the LDS church, from Hawaii, and he picks a Catholic school in Indiana? Holy crap thats a shocker. ND really swooped in on that one. Did he even visit there? Didnt he visit all west coast schools? Is there a briefcase of unmarked bills sitting in his bedroom right now? -

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 07:35 AM) Not quite. ASU is making a serious push for him but he hasn't "switched" to them yet. Wow he signed with ASU. Thats a complete shocker, #2 player out of Cali. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 11:00 AM) Not sure who said that, he's been a Florida lock for a while. As for Appleton, I am not surprised. He recruitment was strange throughout, so it's fitting he would make a strange final decision. Even though Wisconsin occasionally gets receivers to the NFL, it's a traditional run first school with mediocre caretakers at quarterback. He will get a great education there though. Buchanan is a nice get today for the Illini though. Huh, I saw that on a board somewhere, shows what I know. Appleton is a pretty decent loss, but shouldnt hurt them too bad. I saw Telfort picked USC. -

QUOTE (farmteam @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 09:43 PM) When Ohio State was in Bloomington over the weekend, I was pretty unimpressed by Mullens. He had one or two flashes of athleticism and whatnot, but most of the time he was awkward and out of position. He was not very good in that game. He clearly needs another year or two at the college level, but his family is poor and his potential may get him into the lottery. Buford and Turner are the clear stars on OSU and both have an NBA future, I just hope everyone sticks around. -
You want a romantic dinner with a built in close? "Cook" her dinner at your place, because its that much closer to your bed. I would order in catering from somewhere and put some pots and pans in the sink, and when she arrives pull it out of the over or something of the sort making it look like you just finished the meal. Pour a ton of booze, eat, booze, sex, usher her out the door, PS3.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 10:46 AM) Van Dyck in Trib saying this rumor may be more than just a rumor. The Sox would need another deal in place to really push at signing Abreu, they will deny the rumor until something happens or it goes away because our deal fell through or another team outbid us. -
I heard Quentin was going to the Cubs for all of their pitching prospects on the Score.

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 02:30 AM) Hightower drives everyone crazy, and he is not a Big 10 only ref. He's terrible, and yes he did the game last night. Good game though. Johnson from Purdue is going to be a STUD. -

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 08:41 PM) I'll bet it ends up one of those "you can choose where you want to play" deals that ends up with him as a CB sooner than later. It's just Zook's pitch to get him, but when he realizes that there are three young backs better than him, he either transfers or switches back to a DB. Right. If he decommitted in the 24th hour after being a solid verbal for 8 months, whats he going to do when Zook tells him he is going to be a safety? Tenn sites are reporting Marlon Brown to OSU, I really hope thats true. -

QUOTE (thedoctor @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 08:13 PM) four-star rb justin green out of louisville de-commits from ohio state and will sign with illinois. the illini offered him a chance to play running back (osu had him as a db) and that tilted him to champaign. great get for illinois, particularly after some of the disappointing losses lately. ohio state scout site Good get for ILL and a loss for OSU, but its very strange that they would want to make him a RB, almost every recruiting site in the country has him as a DB and thats what every other school was recruiting him for. As much as kids will be kids, he hurt our recruiting by waiting till the 24th hour to decide he wants to get pounded as a RB. Brings us down to 25 players for this class. Im hoping for Brown tomorrow to make it a positive week. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 08:19 PM) OK, you either missed my point entirely, or you are being sarcastic. I can't tell which. My point was, speed is good, and you can't dismiss it by simply saying that attempting to steal bases is bad. And secondarily, that speed isn't everything or even the most important thing, but it is indeed important. I think you were spot on before. Speed alone isnt as valuable as power alone, but speed is a GREAT value add to a team and is a neccessary piece of a well balanced championship caliber team. -
