Buehrle wins the Cy

By the time the season starts we may get several last place votes in the entire MLB. Thats kinda how people do it. Yanks/RS/Cubs at the top of the heap, who care about who fills in the rest.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Feb 15, 2009 -> 02:47 AM) I've mentioned before that if Laurinaitis or Maualuga fall to the Bears, they should seriously consider using their pick on either of those guys. And with those two you have your choice of what kind of LB you want to use moving forward. Both blitz well, Maualuga is a more punishing LB in a Ray Lewis mold and little Animal drops well into coverage and runs a defense fairly well. Of course the bears will prob pick someone that pisses us all off anyway. -

Sign-and-trade Orlando Cabrera?

QUOTE (G&T @ Feb 17, 2009 -> 06:33 AM) First, there is no such thing as a sign and trade in MLB. If you sign a free agent, you have to wait until June (I believe) to trade him. Second, Cabrera already said that last year was the worst season of his career. He hates the Sox and the Sox don't like him. On top of that, the Sox aren't going to shell out any more money to risk getting caught holding Cabrera. well, the MLB actually is granting exceptions this offseason for sign and trades because of the marketplace for teams that dont want to lose draft picks. So actually there ARE sign and trades this offseason. -
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Feb 16, 2009 -> 04:53 PM) He was in the pool at the end of the season. They said he really attacked the rehab regimen as early as he could. Its obvious he killed his rehad program as he is several months ahead of schedule. That is an impressive timetable considering his age.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 15, 2009 -> 10:39 PM) I have two thoughts. How many pounds is Contreras able to lose? Hasn't he lost a bunch of weight the last few offseasons? And there will be no competition for CF. Brian Anderson will not receive the starting job. Jerry Owens will receive the starting job. That might as well be etched in stone and laminated. I dont think you can fake the fact he is already playing long toss after what could have been a career ending injury for a guy his age. He obviously took everything very serious in rehab and intends on getting back on the field.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 15, 2009 -> 01:18 PM) Well OSU isnt a very good team because they couldnt beat Wisconsin on a day when Wisconsin shot under 36%. If your best shooter goes 1-8 from 3, you shouldnt win. If your team shoots 4-18 from 3, you shouldnt win. If your team shoots 55.3% you should win. So once again if Wisconsin isnt a very good team, OSU is a horrible team. Because if Wisconsin even comes close to its averages 36% from 3, yesterdays game is a blow out. OSU turned the ball over 19 times and were out rebounded by 10. OSU should be thankful that Bohannon's last 5 games he went 15/21 from 3, so he was due to miss a few last night. A win is a win, some times you dont have your best stuff, but you fight and scrap to win. (Edit) And Turner is awesome, can only imagine how he would of looked as a 2 guard for Wisconsin. Dont take it personally. OSU isnt that good of a team, so you dont need to base your argument on that. I do think however they are better than Wisco and would beat them on a neutral court most of the time. With all players who have never been to madison and played on that court, holding Wisco to an awful shooting percentage was a moral victory for me, I never expected them to win at one of the toughest places to play in the conference. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 14, 2009 -> 10:12 PM) And the Badger's resurrection continues. Nice win for them over OSU (even better that it helps Illinois). And I'm glad that this year's draft is so weak that B.J. Mullens is a virtual lock to go in the top 15 (maybe top 10). He's nowhere near NBA ready. Evan Turner's draft stock is going up as well. I'll be a happy camper if after this year we won't have to worry about him anymore. He's damn good. Resurrection huh? They should have beat OSu at home, the Buckeyes have zero players with experience in Madison. Wisco is not a very good team however and if they get into the tourney, they better hope all of the games are played in Madison. Mullens will be a bust if he goes into the NBA next year, I think he's beginning to see that. And if him and Turner leave, you still have to deal with Buford. And I didnt get to post this before since the site was down. NW players and fans should have been ashamed of their performance against ILL. The Illini Fans brought the team back into the game and the team delivered the knockout blow. All the NW players did was make dumb decisions, timeouts, passes, and the fans just sat on their hands. Kudos to the Illini fans for that win. -

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Feb 12, 2009 -> 12:45 AM) buyer's remorse... I dunno, if we were trading Tyrus and he had already put up 2 solid seasons and looked like a future all-star (or close to it) I'd be more hesitant to pull the trigger. However, Tyrus hasn't been that consistent, has skipped practice, does look lost on offense at times, and has run hot and cold. We're not trading Elton Brand for Tyson Chandler... were trading a guy who has "potential" and has gone undeveloped for the past 2+ seasons. Amare is legit, young, and will playing in his 4th All-Star game in what 6 seasons? I'm sorry he's not Kevin Garnett, but he's the best we can get, and if it fails you can let him walk and try to find another impact player in 2010 (not a great idea). I'm still on board. Tyrus is not the player he has showed the last few games, but he has helped his value, which is nice. D Rose is the key to everything and if you think that Amare is better than any player you can draft or sign in the next few years, then trade the whole f***ing team for him. As long as you have Rose+Amare you are prob a playoff team anyway, or at least very close. -
Do we really need spoiler tags after the show has aired? I think Kate and Jack have both been on the island before.

Yes, they are trying to capitalize on the party atmosphere of Wrigley for the casual fan. Its pretty dumb, but so are the Cubs.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 02:34 PM) I'm not saying that they wouldn't have lost some games or they would be ranked by now. This has been a vastly different team the last 2-3 weeks. Way different than the team that started conference play 4-0 and smoked creighton by 22. What about when they lost to Indiana State the first time? Bradley? Wichita State? Or are you categorizing those as "chemistry-based" losses? Maybe oh maybe, they just arent as good as you painted them to be repeatedly on this site. BTW Creighton isnt really a win to hang your hat on. -

QUOTE (heirdog @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 02:41 PM) He won them over when they signed him...he made them feel confident in his abilities with BP. If he doesn't pan out, they can still go with an outfield of Owens, Anderson, and CQ (a 2009 version of Pods, Rowand, and Dye). They have replaced Dye's slugging with Fields at 3rd. So yes. Yeah, so you are just making this up, and thats nice. Dye's salary is untradeable at this point unless someone gets desperate. Even if we throw money into it, which we wont. -
NY Daily News: Sox make Abreu 1-Year Offer
RockRaines replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (WCSox @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 01:51 PM) Abreu hasn't been a .400 OBP guy for a couple of years now and is entering the downside of his career. He crossed the plate 100 times last year in 156 games with a solid supporting cast, while JD scored 96 runs in 154 games with a similar supporting cast. This isn't the same guy from 2004 - his numbers are clearly in decline. Agreed that he'd be a nice two-hole hitter with a much better OBP than JD... but then there'd also be about a 10-HR gap between the two. I don't see him as a massive upgrade. Knowing Ozzie, he would also be stuck in CF, where he'd be a defensive liability. Unless Kenny could've moved JD for somebody like Figgins, I wouldn't be in favor of it. If he has entered the downside of his career then so has JD since they are the same age. One my pet peeves about the Sox is their lack of clutch hitting with men on base. Abreu is much better than JD in this aspect which I value more than the few HR's that JD hits. -
