  1. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 07:28 PM) Not really. I don't think he's any better than Tisdale or Davis, but he does have one less year of experience. I just think sometimes his attitude comes off as being a punk. There's being confident, and there's being cocky. I dunno, the Illinois game rubbed me the wrong way I guess. I also saw him staring down a player on MSU. Both times they were losing. There goes your credibility. There isnt a coach in the country that wouldnt want Mullens on their team.
  2. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 06:51 PM) Start naming. I'm interested in oddball players. Like guys with low home run totals but high SLG%. Are you referring to my previous post about a HOF'er? And my post had zero to do with the roster he mentioned, I am referring directly to the term "speed".
  3. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 06:40 PM) also, i think mullens is a punk (or at least acts that way on the court). i was glad to see him "shush" the orange krush as his team got blown out. it's too bad a harris elbow didn't smack him in the face as a "welcome to the big ten youngin'" It is possible you just want him on your team? And I'm not sure an uber-prospect with probably one of the largest upsides of any player in the conference needs a "welcome" broken nose because he's a freshman.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 06:10 PM) Why don't you look at that roster and tell me who can run? Why? My point had nothing to do with THAT roster. My point is that stolen bases doesnt not mean that the player has speed or not, there are plenty of players with great speed around the bases that dont steal more than 2 bases a year.
  5. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 05:20 PM) I was pretty much just joking. Thanks for the history lesson, you probably saw each game that year. You are welcome. Any baseball lover should be familiar with all time great teams and the hall of famers that got them there.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 05:12 PM) The 1961 Yankees had Mantle who could fly, but he was a home run guy. He stole 12 bases, the rest of the team, 16. Bobby Richardson was 9-16 in stolen base attempts, no other Yankee had more than 1 steal. Of course they had 2 guys who combined for 115 homers and a bunch more with 20+. A little more talent than the current White Sox. Since when does having speed mean you have to steal bases? Stolen bases are not an indicator of speed on a team, there are plenty of players with speed that dont steal any bases.
  7. God Big Ten refs are so bad. A Purdue player ran into a pick and because he fell down the ref called it a trip. Everyone on the court was laughing because it was such a terrible call.
  8. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 04:30 PM) 1927 Yankees. Dont know your history very well do you. Either that or you were throwing s*** against the wall hoping it would stick. People talk about that team because back then they had alot of power basically spread across 2 players, Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig who combined for 107 HR's with Lazzeri adding the only other double digit total with 18. That team had a good amount of high avg line drive hitters. Of course if you knew about the 27 Yanks then you knew that one of the most important players on that team and for 11 years of Yankee terror was Earle Combs who led off and played CF. He also is a HOF'er in case you were wondering. For his career he had an OBP of .397 and hit .325. He also had good speed which helped him avg 17 triples a season (he ranks 48th all time). He was also a plus defender in the era of giant outfields. So in short, wrong.
  9. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) Perhaps our new De Los Santos? Because he's going to need arm surgery?
  10. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 03:40 PM) I want you to look at every World Champion of the last decade, and tell me that power doesn't have more to do with those wins then speed. I would also like proof that drawing walks, and letting your players try to hit the ball and drive people in is ever a bad thing. Of course it has more to do with it, but name me one World Series winner since its inception that hasnt had speed on its roster. Our lineup as currently constructed is not as balanced as it could be.
  11. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 02:38 PM) I trust you Rock, no matter what anyone else might say about people who went to the Ohio State. Good thing I didnt go there. I'm from the good ol innocent Miami U.
  12. God the score if awful. Murph is so biased and ignorant its ridiculous.
  13. Like I said, they had been in contact with his agent. Whether he decides to sign is up to him. And whether you decide to believe me and my sources is up to you as well. But I will tell you that they had been in discussions with his agent as well as a few others I know of.
  14. QUOTE (G&T @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 01:47 PM) That's what I assumed. I was wondering if they bothered to actually call someone. The fact that this hasn't been picked up by a major sports outlet tells me there is nothing to it. They have zero sources, this site is better for insight. And there will be plenty of denials and whatnot if a deal doesnt get done, its part of the business. To sign Abreu we would have to trade someone, who on the Sox is going to come out and say, "well we wanted to get rid of Dye, but Abreu wanted 2 years, so we are stuck keeping JD".
  15. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 01:45 PM) Thanks, I saw him at the WR skills competition and he reminded me a lot of Boldin (who I used to love at FSU and thought would be amazing in the pros. I can remember against Georgia he had to play QB due to injuries, it was a shame he couldnt throw to himself.) For the Bears im hoping they can get BPA in the 1st and then some how get a guy like Nicks in the 2nd. I feel that there are a lot of Wr's in this draft so the possibility of a good one slipping is definitely there. He just looked so physical and had great hands. Did you see that Cal Poly guy in the skills comp? What a beast.
  16. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 01:43 PM) "Why can't the Sox pickup Abreu and trade him to the Cubs for some of their pitching prospects?" This is why I don't listen to much sports radio and absolutely none of Mike Murphy. Cubs fans are still considering Guzman a prospect.
  17. QUOTE (G&T @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 01:32 PM) Did they cite a source? The offer was probably made in November and is just now surfacing. they are talking about it now. I think they are just reading posts in this thread.
  18. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 01:30 PM) If anything, I'd say Quentin would be the most likely to play in CF. But it's not going to happen, so there's no point in speculating about it. Abreu is no doubt trying to negotiate a 2nd year in any deal.
  19. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 01:26 PM) Lip, who works for suntimes on whitesoxinteractive, posted that ozzie laughed this one off and abreu looking for 2 yr deal. I wonder why an offer was made, but the Sox brass are "laughing it off". Perhaps because its obvious they needed another deal in place before they signed him?
  20. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news...p&type=lgns Didnt the cops know they could have just used a swim move on him and blown right by?
  21. People from the suburbs commuting into the city and parking on my street all day.
  22. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 01:18 PM) Hey Rock, is this deal gonna happen or are we getting ahead of ourselves? Levine (ESPN) reported it's not close and probably not gonna happen. Although, he's almost always wrong. I know there had been some contact with his agent and I mentioned it to a few other posters via PM awhile ago, but I have no idea on the specifics.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 11:08 AM) Even if KW comes out and denies it, its not a garbage rumor. They've been in contact. ahem. If it was Ozzie its the same thing.
  24. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 01:13 PM) Most teams place a weak hitter in the #9 spot. Either a pitcher in the NL or a weak hitting batter in the AL. I've ALWAYS felt you need a strong hitter in the #9 hole. It's a great way to turn over the line-up. A line-up isnt top to bottom, it's a circle. I feel the same way. I also like my 7,8,9 hitters to work a pitcher out and not be easy outs. The best way to get an opposing Pitcher in the groove is to give him a few easy outs in a row. Also, just about every other hitter in the lineup from 3 on down will have a better OBP than Alexei for the most part so I like them in front of him.
