  1. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 01:25 PM) Dunn's K's won't kill you because of his OBP and his home run numbers. But Josh Fields isnt going to anchor the middle of a lineup. He will hit no higher than #6 in the order, most likely further down.
  2. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 12:54 PM) I may be in the minority but I still believe the Cubs will land Peavy. All this move does is allow the Cubs (who have about 14 bullpen pitchers for 7 spots) to send Samardijza down to AAA this year to work on becoming a starter for 2010 (they won't re-sign Harden and Lilly will be in his final year of his contract in 2010). The difference between the Roberts rumors last year and the Peavy rumors this year is the O's didn't have to trade Roberts where as the Pads have to cut their payroll by $30 mil. To be honest I think a deal is already in place and as soon as the new owner becomes official, it will be done. What will they trade for him then? original players: Cedeno: gone Pie: Gone Ceda: gone Olson: gone All they have left of value is Vitters and no team in the world would trade Peavy for Vitters. Marshall isnt very good, they have zero MLB ready position players and no real arms left. Samarjigidjja has a no trade clsuse and signed with the Cubs to be in Chicago. They literally have nothing left.
  3. I dont even know why I try to post at mlbtr.com the cubs fans on there are pretty much retarded. Sean Marshall has become the next Tom Glavine for alot of Cubs fans. Hendry basically has Vitters left in his farm system. They are banking on him becoming a stud. Ceda was the the guy I really thought they should have kept around.
  4. So is Rich Hill. I cant believe they are going to get more than a used wad of gum for Rich Hill. Update: They traded Olson and Cedeno for him.
  5. QUOTE (MO2005 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 10:54 AM) And seriously how many players in this league are hot all season long besides maybe Albert Pujols? Every player has hot and cold months, but it's what makes the defense and team better. Crede's presence alone was enough even when he was slumping a bit because his defense was always stellar...Let's compare the 2...who would you rather have.. A guy who strikes out less than 100 times a year or more than 150 in a full season? A guy who has been an all star or not? A guy who's defense is predictable or unpredictable? A guy who when we need a clutch hit will deliver or not? I mean Crede over Fields for me anyday even with the back problem.. We got Betemit and Viciedo waiting in the wings..I would sign Crede to a one year deal because the guy is proven. Also what would happen to Joe Joe the late inning hero? Fields.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 10:43 AM) Garland agreed to a 1 year contract with an option. He is guaranteed somewhere between $6-8 million. And alot of people on here didnt think that kind of a contract was possible.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 10:30 AM) I don't think anyone really knew how bad his knee was last season. He was interviewed at an Okl St football game and said he could barely stand. However, I think we can expect to see an article like this about every 10 days on how a Sox rookie is going to be a real sleeper this season. Thats the real wildcard. Fielding is really affected by bad knees, back, ankles, even neck because of the bending required to both field the ball and to move around your zone. I think he has the potential to be a decent fielding 3B, but its going to take alot of work over the next few months. I DO like the fact that he is eager to change and take the starting role for himself.
  8. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 10:26 AM) Not Gonna Happen Plus I'd bet on Josh Fields playing more games this season than Joe Crede who cant even score a 1 year deal because of his back.
  9. Im sorry but 2 weeks of training isnt going to drastically improve your defense. He better keep up the same routine all the way through ST if he really wants to change. The kid has the athleticism and the arm to play a decent 3B, its his feet that are the issue. He wont ever hit for avg but can put up a good OPS for us near the bottom of the order.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 25, 2009 -> 01:55 AM) 'The Fall' is enjoyable. I finally rented 'Spun', worth the entire dollar and fifty cents it cost to rent it. Spun is awesome. I rented that with a few great flicks all at once by accident a few years ago. Welcome to Collinwood, Spun, Scotland PA (recommended), Saltan Sea, were a few of that fateful night of fantastic movie watching. I also really like Harsh Times with Christian Bale along similar lines with Spun.
  11. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 12:15 AM) Tajh Boyd to Clemson... Didn't even know they were an option. Thought it was Ohio St or Oregon, but I stopped following his recruitment when Kiffin told him he wouldn't fit in our pro-style offense. PLaying time. Oregon has 5 QB's, OSU has the Big Ten leader in passer rating returning and starting for at least 2 years. Looks like its UM vs OSU for Gardner
  12. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Jan 27, 2009 -> 03:53 PM) Yeah, thats the major problem I'm coming across. Thanks everyone though for the suggestions. I made a thing on Craigslist and had some people contact me (although nothing that looks like its going to work yet), but its a start. I think places like Presidential towers does short term leases as well.
  13. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 27, 2009 -> 05:44 PM) I would disagree. Speed is important to a lineup. It allows for scroing without extra base hits and getting into scoring position. Of course eveyone would rather the high OBP, that is the first factor in front of the best hitters. But then the speed comes into play. I don't anyone would argur that the OBP is the most important factor. However in front of the best hitters speed plays an important role because getting muultiple hits to score runners is tough to do. Going from first to third and scoring from second is never overrated IMO. If you have two similar hitters, I take the guy with speed and athleticism every time.
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 10:12 PM) Blake is every bit as good as advertised. Willie Warren is also a stud. I agree with you on Ford. He is ridiculous. Blake's coordination at that size is amazing.
  15. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 27, 2009 -> 05:11 PM) I'm just saying that Florida is an SEC school, which a lot of people like to rag on b/c they let in guys who might not get into other places, like some Big 10 schools. Wouldn't you rather have easier academic admission standards for your football team so they could do the same thing too? As for logistics, Ohio St has it. I'll assume the program at OSU is probably called Supply Chain Management, though (as mentioned in the post above me). It's really the same thing. I dont know, I didnt go to OSU, they may. We probably would want our schools to open up their admissions to get some of those kids in, but quite simply it wouldnt be much more frowned upon than it is in the south especially in the SEC. It simply just wont happen nearly as much.
  16. Speed is overrated if the player in question isnt that good. If you have your choice between a leadoff hitter with a .350 OBP with speed and one without, you ALWAYS take the one with speed.
  17. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 09:38 PM) As long as we win football games, I really don't care what grades the players are making. It's not hurting my overall school's reputation as an academic institution. And if it is, it's a minimal effect at best. And as long as I'm graduating from the University of Tennessee Business School with a degree in Logistics, one of the Top 10 Logistics programs of any school, public or private, I'm pretty happy. Yeah, the Big 10 has higher standards, but as football fans, wouldn't you rather put out a better team? Honestly, if your team could be like Florida or Ohio St right now, who are you taking? I think that's a pretty easy answer. Rock, your answer doesn't count, lol Btw, Illinois better not steal Stokes from me... What sense does that make, anyone in the country would pretty much take Florida over their program. And for logistics, do you mean shipping, as in DH Robinson stuff? I honestly have never heard of that program and I went to a very business program focused school.
  18. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jan 27, 2009 -> 08:15 AM) So why don't those owners also have ads on Craigs List? They probably did at one point without pics (which is basically guaranteeing nobody will call you) but the place went unrented for so long that they needed to be more proactive. Who knows? The rental market in chicago is very strange. Its alot of word of mouth, dumb luck, and timing. Its not nearly as bad as the market when I was in college where leases were all passed from group to group and really kept certain groups of people out of the really good properties on campus.
  19. OSU hoping to add Boyd to this list tomorrow at 5pm http://rivals100.rivals.com/commitlist.asp...9&School=56
  20. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 04:49 PM) That's the whole thing with almost all SEC schools, especially in Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama and Florida. I remember when I was applying to schools down there, like Miami and U of Florida, Alabama, LSU, their standards were much much lower to get into. Alot of those schools literally will offer a ton of players scholarships because they know that 10-15 of them wont qualify academically.
  21. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 06:26 PM) He can go back to Anaheim and play for his favorite manager. :oldrolleyes So Cabrera the prima donna and Swisher the obnoxious 10-year-old didn't get a long with Ozzie, eh? Shocker. ETA: I'm speculating about Swish. His .219 BA and sudden decline after leaving the 'roids-infested A's may have had something to do with it as well. Yeah, cause the A's probably injected him before he was ever drafted as well...
  22. The title of the threa should be "I wish we signed Ben Sheets". Bartolo was probably the biggest (in name not size) signing for our rotation this offseason. 50,000 jobs were lost today, and with more of those going everyday the writing is on the wall for pleasure activities like going to a baseball game.
  23. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 01:22 PM) So he's overweight? He's 19 years old for god's sake. Give him a year or two with a professional training staff, a personal chef, and the pride of being a cuban MLB player and I think he'll be a bronze titan soon enough. Most non-track athletes (football players, baseball players, basketball big men) are a bit soft in their late teens. I see no worry here. He's been called overweight by people who have never seen him play in person and only have gritty youtube videos to grade out on. We dont even know anything true outside of what Cubano tells us. He gets signed by the Red Sox and he's a power hitter growing into his body who will challenge A-rod for superiority at the hot corner offensively.
  24. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 02:15 PM) It's probably an area by area thing. The apartment services here have all the better (re: expensive) properties and craigs list has the cheap, broken screens, and trashed out areas. I always figured the guys on craigslist were too cheap and always looking for the cheapest way. But I can see in major cities how that would be different. There still are some good services here, but alot of the companies work up north in the "new grad" area and make a pretty good living renting out apts that most resident chicagoins wouldnt touch, but some kid who just moved here would jump at the chance to live directly next to the EL.
  25. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 02:55 PM) Huh? You said "All-Star Game" and you posted it this morning. Even if you were on some weird schedule where you watch your DVR at 6 something in the morning, that's still weird timing and you probably shouldn't expect people to know what you're talking about! Sorry, insomnia and DVR. I expect everyone to know my inner thoughts after this many years on here. Im not quite onto the actual game yet.
