Tex, you still didnt answer my question about your experience. Where do many of your viewpoints on this issue come from? Because a large portion of your arguments are extremely dated and really allign with older governmental viewpoints on drugs as a whole.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 12:31 PM) Are you suggesting your pot dealer or further up the chain has connections to terrorism? And how does higher potency help society? Yes, I would suggest that a portion of growers that exist outside the united states may have ties to criminal organizations or terrorism. If Growing is legalized and regulated by the government then many of those growers become pretty worthless. Think of the bootlegging industry as a benchmark for this type of model. And high potency helps users. Imagine when liquor was illegal, the quality of drink varied a ton from maker to maker, legalization smoothes out those rough edges and eliminates alot of the bad crop that may or may not be safe for use. (including some strains of pot that have been "soaked")

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 11:49 AM) You sound like you're outraged by that. I think that's how most teams seem to build title contenders lately. By signing minor league invites? Like who has built a contender that way?

QUOTE (Texsox @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) Well you just eliminated my biggest reason to legalize it. What benefit is their to society beyond financial? Whose society? Ours? Less funding of criminal and terrorist organizations for the gov, for users, more controlled distribution and higher potency.

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 11:36 AM) Which obvious BS rumor thread has been the longest this offseason. Gawd were gonna suck next year. First rule of rumor posting: Dont quote Cowley. Second rule of rumor posting: They are all not true The Sox have been pursuing players quietly, and the reason it remains quiet is because they are players that nobody gives two s***s about.
-
I'd expect the Sox to sign one of these guys fairly soon.
-
So this rumor has been debunked by both GM's so far. I mean, Cowley has been accurate when exactly?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 07:24 AM) Try Red Light. Awesome food and a nice venue. The duck is excellent. I used to work there a few years back. Ill wave from my rooftop.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 10:54 AM) I'm not sure if I've said this in this thread already, but there is no such thing as a gateway drug, and if there is, it has to be alcohol. What keeps marijuana is the perpetuation of silly, nonsensical concepts and that have no basis in fact, like this one. I'm not even sure where they come from to be honest, because reality is totally different. Its very old fashioned to be honest. There is more evidence to "gateway genetics" than there is to anything being considered a "gateway drug." Most studies trying to prove any drug as a gateway have largely been funded by organizations that have interest in the criminalization of such drugs and are based on extremely terrible empirical studies.
-
QUOTE (Texsox @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 10:15 AM) You missed my point. As long as marijuana is illegal, you will purchase the product from someone who usually has access to other illegal drugs. It is a gateway of sorts to those other products from a distribution and sales point of view. Just like if you buy your coffee at Starbucks, there are other products there, like lattes, for you to buy. If you are buying beer, there are other products you can buy there, once you are in the door. So by making marijuana legal, you cut off the gateway between marijuana and other illegal drugs. I understand that people who smoke pot also drink alcohol, coffee, wear clothing, read books, and watch TV. Those links are not particularly as interesting to me as the notion of where you buy and what else does that lead to. What makes you think that all pot dealers have access to other drugs? That has to be one of the biggest stretches in this thread so far. Habitual marijuana users do not have an automatic desire to try cocaine, the drugs couldnt be more different. IN fact I would say 90 percent or more of the weed dealers I have known over the years had ZERO idea where to get other stuff. Once again, the "gateway" idea was mostly a governmental approach to scaring parents and children from using a very harmless drug in weed because of the "threat" of them automatically becoming heroin addicts. I'd like to know if you have any actual experience with these drugs or the culture, because your points are continually echoing those of generations past who were not very plugged in to the actual use, distribution, and effects of Marijuana.

She had to have at least been born with both sets of "parts"

Thomas was THE premier hitter for a period of time in baseball, and absolutely was a game changer.

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 12:53 PM) Try to avoid eating greasy food before going to bars. You may be a victim to the stalls with no walls syndrome. Wrap your mind around this: Fogo De Chou (sp?) all you can eat red meat+Joe's on Weed no door stalls+me=spectator poop Its happened. I've also had to bury one on the beach in Panama City.

No Jordan Danks huh? I really wanted to see him in person.

When faced with the question "should I have one more?" the answer is always YES.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 11:10 AM) I think I've boycotted them until Pax is fired VDN is fired Kirk is gone Tyrus is gone Noah is gone Deng is gone Hughes is gone Hunter is gone Gray is gone The one guy I actually like other than Rose (Gordon) is the only one who they aren't keeping. I guess I can also handle Gooden since his contract is expiring. It's just hilarious. Ill cosign on the ones above. It infuriated me so much watching the team that I did the same thing you are doing, I simply told myself I wouldnt watch them anymore. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 10:59 AM) Was Ricky that much better than Nolan Ryan? Yes. Ricky is the best player to have ever batted leadoff, he changed the game. Nolan was a strikeout pitcher.
-
I mean which lineup looks better? 1. Owens CF 2. Getz 2B 3. Q LF 4. Thome DH 5. Dye RF 6. Konerko 1B 7. Alexei SS 8. AJP C 9. Fields 3B 1. Figgins CF 2. Getz 2B 3. Q 4. Thome 5 Konerko 6. Alexei 7 AJP C 8 Fields 9 -Wildcard or Viciedo I honestly think that without Dye we have plenty of power in the lineup and have some flexibility to add a player or check out someone like Viciedo early.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 08:28 AM) Have I mentioned that I've boycotted the Bulls yet? John Paxson should be fired. He hasn't made one correct choice as GM in over 4 years aside from picking Rose, which the opportunity to do so was luck anyway. I've boycotted them as well until Noah is off the team entirely. -
QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 01:43 AM) Get your facts straight buddy. Dawson played center the first 7 years of his career, 3 of which were gold glove seasons. While I agree that the voting for Raines is extremely pathetic, Dawson deserves to get in just as much. Ha! No he doesnt. Coming from someone who tells me to get my facts straight and you think Dawson deserves the hall. The guy was a good player, nothing more. Raines outhit him as a leadoff hitter for god sakes. .279 .323 .482 is not HOF numbers.
-
I'd even do the trade straight up frankly. Dye is a good player, but the team isnt in dire need of slow boppers, and I would gladly take the hit if we could fill the leadoff hole and inject some speed into the lineup.
-
Dawson, Rice and Konerko dont deserve the hall. Seriously WTF. How can someone like Tim Raines who should be a lock get less votes?
-
Seriously a one-sided argument, but fun nonetheless.
