  1. With Lowe getting offers at 12 mil a year, Burrell and Bradley signing at decently affordable deals, we could easily get a good arm for 2 years 14-18 million with a 3rd year option.
  2. Any bets on how many total games he plays in 3 years? Another example on the FA market coming back to earth.
  3. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 03:10 PM) especially for corner of/DH types, Dunn will be an absoute steal for the sox fixed
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 03:19 PM) Sox hat? It's all for the style. He's a sox fan.
  5. Rock is a much better candidate than Harold.
  6. 2 years 16 million. Wow, down goes the value for FA's.
  7. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 02:07 PM) From the picture (and from my thorough and intimate familiarity with women across the seven continents ) I suspected UK sizes might be slightly larger than American sizes. A quick google search seemed to confirm this. http://www.usatourist.com/english/tips/Womens-Sizes.html FWIW, I voted for the "middle," which probably translates to an American size 6. Which is funny because the American ideal by women would be about a size 0 or 00
  8. Wow, in America the women's ideal would be much more sickly looking. Those all look very healthy to me.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 05:30 PM) The problem is that Beckham is iffy at best projected as a major league shortstop in terms of arm, range and overall ability...most think his skill set profiles best as a 2B, but we'll find out soon enough with a full season of play at that position in Birmingham. Actually his arm and ability has been said to be sufficient at the major league level, his range was the only thing SOME scouts have questioned.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 06:51 AM) Miami of Ohio or Hurricanes? The real one, you know the one that was a University before Florida was even a state.
  11. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 07:14 AM) That's for sure. It seems odd to me that Miami U of all places has all sorts of coaching connections, but they do... Heck, in general, the state of Ohio is the f'n coaching capital of the world. Something like 16 of the last 18 coaches to coach in the national championship are either from Ohio or coached at an Ohio school at some point in their career. That's amazing. Ohio is so underrated as a football state. Miami used to be a decent football power back in the day. Most of that has to do with how extremely old the school is (1809) and how much revenue the University had. And you are spot on about coaching, its really strange. OSU's biggest rival got their best coach from Hayes' staff and Miami.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 05:40 AM) http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/6249333/ I think one Iowa coaching stuff under Fry had both Bobby and Mike Stoops, Jim Leavitt (USF), Patterson (Western Illinois), KSU's miracle worker Bill Snyder, along with Kirk Ferentz. Pretty impressive staff. Then you have some other connections, like Mark Stoops, Bo Pelini (grad assistant), Brett Bielema, Chuch Long, etc. He qualified and said "recruiting coordinator rankings" or something like that. Thats a good one you mentioned. I wasnt even going to stray from my Buckeyes to bring up a staff, any of Hayes coaching staff would sufficed. And actually, my alma mater (Miami) has some impressive ones as well.
  13. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 11:58 AM) As of now I'll agree with you on that. I don't know if Lick will be able to recruit good enough but they have a pretty nice looking crop of young players, all of which should be around for 4 years. Thats one benefit though, that the level of talent he will recruit will most likely stay in his system for multiple years which makes it possible to keep a program at a high level and also to teach your system to perfection.
  14. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 11:39 AM) People aren't going to spend thousand of dollars to travel to a freezing cold site to watch a football game around the holidays. People go where it's warm, and that's pretty much it. Bowl games aren't played in the north for those reasons, not due to some conspiracy to make the Big 10 look bad (I know that's not what you said or implied, I am saying that because some others across the football landscape seem to think that way). The Big 10 isn't getting it's ass kicked in bowl games because they are played in warm climates, they are getting their ass kicked in bowl games because the league is TERRIBLE right now. The bigger problem here is the fact that high school football is SO much better in the south, sun belt, and on the west coast (aka in the warm weather climates), and thus the players the SEC, Pac 10, and Big 12 (tons of players from Texas all over that league) are getting are better than the Big 10 players the schools up here get from the high schools across the midwest. I don't know why players are so much better (and faster) at those warm weather high schools, but until that problem is fixed, the predominant northern conferences like the Big East, Big 10, and even to a certain and lesser degree the ACC (obviously they have some southern schools as well) will struggle. I just wonder if the year round training you can do in warmer climates has anything to do with the talent disparity. The Big Ten outside of OSU the last few seasons hasnt been getting their ass kicked. Some of the best HS talent in the country are going to schools in the Big Ten. And when you are talking about HS football powerhouse states you talk about Fla, Ca, Texas and Ohio (which is in the north). And Penn and NJ are a good football hotbed as well to a lesser extent. Here is the national football power ranking. You can see where alot of the talent comes from (CA Mostly) but it doesnt look like alot of those teams got the memo that speed only materializes in the south. http://www.maxpreps.com/national/football/...mp;urpath=,list
  15. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 03:31 AM) I mean, a coaching staff of this magnitude has never been assembled before. You were joking right?
  16. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 04:07 PM) No one would lose any sleep at all over those 2Bs going to the minors. And Beckham's true position and start date are still unknown. He might not even be with this organization in a year. You know KW. 2B is a clear position for us where we can save payroll. I just dont see anyone else brought into the mix at this point, especially not when it requires trading one of your best young starters.
  17. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 03:45 PM) I had a feeling that would be popular. But seriously, no southern teams ever come north late in the year. Have you ever noticed that the years when USC goes to Notre Dame it is always early in the year, yet in the years ND goes there it is toward the end of the season? Some of the best stadiums in college football are in the north, especially in the midwest, and yet no bowl games there. I understand that you want it warm for the fans, but its essentially home games for many of the southern and west coast teams.
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 04:13 PM) Lick's a better coach than Weber, imo. I'll get shredded for saying that but he is. Whether he'll be able to recruit good enough at Iowa remains to be seen though. BTW, I cant believe you snuck this post through the Illini buzzsaw.
  19. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 03:47 PM) Yes, it had been believed for a long time that he would end up back with Michigan, but the last month or so things got a little hairy. Apparently, Big Will has a flair for the dramatic. I know his is about recruiting and you can move it to the recruiting thread if you want, but how many more players does OSU have room for? Hoping for 2-3 more. Even though Lemming said we are done (we are not) most Bucks fans are hoping for 2 of Boyd, Bryce Brown, Marcus Hall, Marlon Brown, and Corey Adams. Most likely they can land one, and I think its Hall.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 03:43 PM) Its no stretch. I don't think he'd even consider Floyd for Roberts as much as I personally would love it. Its just that it is not as unprecedented as you claim. Yes it is, I still havent seen an instance of when he took one of his young starters from his rotation to trade for a 2B when he has a glut at the position. I also do not recall him acquiring a guy like Jones who has been called lazy and uncoachable.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 03:38 PM) PROVEN MLB PITCHING doesn't include Gavin Floyd's 1 season of success either. Career ERA of 4.98 and career WHIP of 1.436 is hardly proven. KW traded a PROVEN MLB PITCHER for one year of Orlando Cabrera as well. Roberts is far superior offensively. Come on Dick, stop trying to stretch Royce Ring into Gavin Floyd to make an iffy point as it is. KW has dont alot of work to collect arms like Gavin and Danks and is not going to trade them for Brian Roberts just to fill a lead off hole.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 03:16 PM) No. Roberts is light years ahead of where Alomar was when KW traded Ring for him. And giving Canseco any money at that point was overpaying. Andruw Jones will be playing for the minimum for some team other than the Dodgers next season. Canseco got a little more than that. I don't want Jones on the White Sox either. Anyone who constantly b****ed about Uribe, Anderson, Wise etc. are hypocrites if they clamour for Andruw Jones, a guy who has hit a combined .205 his last 2 seasons and struck out 76 times in 209 AB last season. Please re-read the quote you are basing your argument on. PROVEN MLB PITCHING does not equal Royce Ring
