QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 11:13 AM) I don't necessarily agree with that. Abreu offers something that the Sox need more of for sure in OBP, but Dye himself had a .344 OBP last season and a better SLG %. It's basically a wash overall I think, although Abreu's power numbers could rise a little (but still Yankee Stadium is very favorable to LHH's). Just don't think you can downgrade JD's importance to the lineup. When Konerko and Thome were struggling, Dye was the one protecting CQ in the order. Check out my post above. There is a definite difference in production between the two.

KW doesnt want to give up 40 man spots either. I doubt we pick anyone in the minor league portion.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 11:00 AM) Personally, I think Bobby Abreu would be a much more valuable bat to our offense than JD. He would be, but mostly because he is a pretty clutch hitter. RISP career .316 .439 .531 2008 RISP .296 .372 .450 Dye RISP .259 .336 .428 2008 RISP .269 .304 .429 These are numbers with ALOT of at bats. This is something the team has missed, especially last season.

s*** I just realized I made the top 20. I need a better hobby.

QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 10:48 AM) What will it take to get Abreu? 3 years, $24M-27M? I can't imagine anything much less. I'm imagining a scenario where Dye is traded and the savings goes on to the Reds. It essentially becomes a wash for the Sox salary wise. 2 years 18 guaranteed, option for 3rd making the total about 30.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 11:37 PM) Who should he have been invited over? Tim Tebow. Harrell has better numbers than he does, teams both have one loss. If you dont want to take "God" out of the running then Harrell should have been the 4th. TT undoubtedly has less talent than Oklahoma, Texas and Florida, yet Harrell lead them to their best record ever, a tie in the B12 south for first and put up gaudy numbers. -
QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 05:15 PM) NO WAY Yes way. How many different kinds of punches do you have to worry about defending and countering in boxing? How about boxing styles?

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:15 AM) "The second one" = Punisher with Thomas Jane. That Punisher had a great opening, but like kyyle said, it came off more like a Charles Bronson "Death Wish" movies. Dark Knight, Batmans Begins and Iron Man are in their own class. Then I'd toss Superman, X2, Batman (1989,) Hellboy, Spider-Man 2, The Incredible Hulk together. Third Stage: X-Men, X-Men 3, Superman 2, Batman Returns, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 3, Spawn, Punisher (Jane) 4th: Batman Forever, Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider, Daredevil, Judge Dredd Bottom of the Barrel: Catwoman, Elektra, Superman 3, Superman 4, Batman and Robin, and probably this new Punisher. I thought Iron man was incredibly crappy and doesnt belong in the same sentence as Dark Knight

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 09:56 PM) Yeah I enjoy UFC, but it's basically just waiting til your opponent lets his guard down for a millisecond. Then you either put him a sub hold or you catch him a clean punch that stuns him and then you pound on him repeatedly til the ref steps in. There is no slow, methodical tearing away at your opponent round after round. Not usually anyway. Give me Roberto Duran, Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Alexis Arguello or Salvador Sanchez any day. You dont watch much MMA then. You not only have to be an extremely rounded fighter to excel, but you must be the master of several different ways of actually WINNING a fight. As far as slowly tearing away your opponent, you just havent had enough experience watching it to know when thats going on. For example, have you see a good ground game guy trying to chip away at a striker to get him to the ground? How about two experienced JJ guys on the ground advancing and defending techniques as well as trying to loosen up the opponent to be able to sink in a choke. There is much more strategy in GOOD MMA than in boxing. As far as round after round after round, these days, not a whole lot of people want to see a fight taken to the cards like boxing seems to do time after time.

QUOTE (ChiSox420* @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 04:42 PM) It seems the Marlins are looking for catching for Hermida... what about a package involving Lucy? It would have to revolved around Flowers.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 04:34 PM) It truly is amazing how much junk Hendry can trade for good players. Like fathom said, he must have naked pictures. The fact is, they probably are going to have to let one of those three go at some point this season, so teams who trade for them now are pretty much retarded. Fukucrappy is already penciled in for CF, Theriot and Derosa/Fontenot are in the MI and Marshall is going to be a possible LOOGY/Long man for them.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 04:29 PM) I thought it was Marshall and Cedeno Cedeno is as well. I just checked, Pie is out of options as well. And THIS is the crap they are packaging for players.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 04:25 PM) So when he's sold as the savior in SD and he hits .175 because the park is tough to hit in and he can't hit anyway, they can't even send him to the minors without putting him through waivers. Classic. I may be off on that, but I read somewhere that both Marshall and Pie were out of options.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 04:19 PM) He seems too much like Darin Erstad for me. A guy who will play more than he should, plus he's not the defender he used to be. I still don't understand why Pie would be non tendered. I don't think he's eligible for arbitration. I meant Pie has no options left.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 04:07 PM) Another thing to note, Taveras was also mentioned as a candidate to be non tendered. There are several CF'ers that will be non-tendered. I also think Felix Pie will be non-tendered, which would be a good buy low transaction. Even though the Cubs believe he is good enough to be the centerpiece in every deal.

In three-way deal, Minnesota could land Cubs' DeRosa

QUOTE (almagest @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 02:59 PM) Sometimes the posts on this board leave me speechless. Let em go, it happens every year. In 2005, check out the posts during and right after the WM, which was before we signed AJP and Iguchi. KW doesnt usually do too much at this event.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 02:11 PM) The talk is that it would be Marshall, Atkins, and another prospect. The talk where exactly? The Marlins asked for 2 pitching prospects from the Rays out of a group including Niemann and Wade Davis. The Cubs simply dont have that as the Marlins already took their top pitching prospect.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 12:50 PM) You'll be happy to know that if the Cubs don't trade Marshall in the Peavy deal, they'll use him to get Hermida from the Marlins. Hendry really must have naked pictures of these other GMs he deals with, as I can't believe teams actually want Jason Marquis. No they wont, the Marlins were asking for some of the top prospects from the Rays, all of which are better than Marshall.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 01:36 AM) Colt McCoy is WAY more valuable to his team than Tim Tebow, not to mention he had a better season. I'd be surprised if Bradford doesn't win though, as this is more of an MOP award than MVP. They dont lead like Tebow does. He LEADS. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 08:32 PM) So you think a FA, trade acquisition, or Owens? I know it wont be Taveras at this point. They havent had many conversations with the Rocks.

IMO, the best in house leadoff option currently is Chris Getz.
