QUOTE (YASNY @ May 6, 2008 -> 10:20 AM) That's one level of behavior. This is another. Just like the Vikings cruise was another level. I'm sure Vikings fans 'got over it' but I can't imagine they were thrilled about the incident. The Sox actions do not approach the Vikings actions, but still, this ain't good. So? A funny "ritual" in a clubhouse is comparable to a cruise off site where women were sexually abused? Now we all see how far are frustration has taken our arguments.

http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2007/09/25/...-rookie-hazing/ just like they do at Dunder Mifflin IM OUTRAGED, WHY CANT THEY ALLOW THIS IN A WORKPLACE!!!! Freakin hilarious awful argument.

QUOTE (Texsox @ May 6, 2008 -> 10:17 AM) It is a story because it is so far outside the boundaries of acceptable behavior in a workplace. Good thing they dont work in cubicles. Is it acceptable in a workplace to dress up the new guy as a girl and have them carry pink backpacks around? How about filling the new girl in HR's cube with shaving cream? Until you separate a workplace and a baseball field in your head you are going to continue to make awful points. In case you were wondering, childish actions are considered a day to day accepted activity in baseball and is even supported on their website. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...sp&c_id=mlb

QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ May 6, 2008 -> 09:34 AM) While I do not care for Uribe overall, I must say he is far down the list of reasons this offense sucks. His defense has also been very good at 2nd base so I can live with him until a better alternative comes around. There is more to it than the fact he's an absolute hole in the lineup. His mental lapses are something that wont be tolerated. We all have been saying for awhile that it appears Juan doesnt give a s*** when he's at bat, like he doesnt prepare or think things through. That is exactly the attitude that we want out of that clubhouse, and with his mental retardation yesterday, its time he goes.

Wow, should the title of the thread be, everyone here has had a bad few days, let the overreations be posted here. Its a locker room, get over it. How about all the dressing up other teams do to rookies, carrying a pink backpack, "daddy why did they make Ryan Theriot dress up like a catholic schoolgirl?" Give me a break. This is such a non-story its hilarious.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 5, 2008 -> 09:28 PM) Until you fire the GM that built this mess, not much constructive change will occur. I give KW credit for the pitching, but this offense makes last years look like the '27 Yankees. This season is already lost, can't win with no offense, especially in the AL. Too bad we didn't realize last year our team showed it was old, and it wasn't a fluke year as many thought offensively. There was a TON of constructive changes that took place this offseason. Alot of the lineup is different, the bullpen and rotation have been great, he made some of the shrewdest under the radar moves this offseason. I dont understand how this lineup could show its old when only 4 out of the 5 players from last years team that are in our lineup are playing badly, what about AJ who has improved? How have the other players shown they were old last year? Quentin and Crede by getting hurt? Swish and OC having some of their best seasons? Pablo by breaking his leg? I hope one day when you are doing well at a job and your boss calls you in and says, you know you have been doing a very good job, but im frustrated with our company's bad week so you are let go, that you remember thats the only way constructive change will occur.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 5, 2008 -> 02:11 PM) The lack of collaboration is the real issue in baseball umpiring, it seems to me. The umps keep trying to stop the idea of instant replay, well, the best thing they could do to avoid that is get better at working together. Look at the NFL, they are far better about it. The umpiring in MLB is just way too individualistic. On that blown call with O-Cab, one of the other umps (one of them must have seen it) needs to step forward and say they saw something different. Officiating in baseball is 90 percent judgment calls based on each individuals personal view and opinion on the game. Is there anything less concrete in sports than a strike zone?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 5, 2008 -> 12:45 PM) None of us can know of course, but reading the article, I tend to think Cedric's story is B.S. Its got the classic gap in there. He says he politely asked a question, then the officer just peppered him? Sorry but, I don't believe that. There is s*** in between that he is leaving out, and I doubt anything about the exchange was "polite". Police entering a scene of several drunk LARGE black men and immediately you do not think they may overreact? Theres 100 years of white authority figures reacting too quickly and irrationally, especially in Texas. Through his interaction with the media over the years, and his lack of aggresiveness on and off the field, his story may be exaggerated slightly, but I could see something like that happening. And if his boat was parked at the dock? Even stranger. Not to mention if you look at his criminal history, there has been a false accusation before with charges dropped due to bad police procedure. His prior brushes with the law.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ May 4, 2008 -> 06:10 PM) I'd say about 70% of people on boats are generally drunk boating, it's funny he got pepper sprayed and dragged to shore though. No kidding, drinking and driving a boat is definitely something that is not safe to do, but generally the authorities look the other way.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2008 -> 02:33 PM) It's amazing the difference in the Sox 2-5 hitters compared to the Cubs. You expect nothing with the Sox, but when the Cubs 2-5 hitters are up, you're shocked if they don't reach base and score at least one run. So far, it really hurts that Fukudome looks to be a much better player than Swisher. I'd rather have Quentin over Fuku in a heartbeat. Similar players, Q has more power, is much younger, and has a more sustainable approach in the MLB IMO
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 1, 2008 -> 03:16 PM) What happened on that play? Also, did he make a good throw home to get Fielder? Frankly the cubs have a horseshow up their ass offensively so far this season. Len and Bob were going through their OBP, I would expect a nasty drop from everyone in the lineup with the exception of DLEE and FUdome. No way in hell Theriot ends up with a .400 OBP, he may flirt with .330

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 1, 2008 -> 02:51 PM) Owens' career .315 slugging percentage says he's woeful. Its not so much his numbers last year, I agree they showed improvement month over month and that he had some promise. But now with BA hitting and Q hitting, there is no room for him, and im not sure he is an improvement. Also in charlotte he is looking extremely weak against LHP so far, even though its a small sample size, its fairly exaggerated. Vs RHP .318 .434 .889 vs LHP .278 .316 .649
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 12:42 PM) Some highlights from Charlotte's win... Owens: 2-4, HR, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R (hitting .306, OBP over .400) Unfortunately he is showing like a platoon player. Vs RHP .318 .434 .889 vs LHP .278 .316 .649

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ May 1, 2008 -> 01:23 PM) it really sucks to defend owens in a thread where the lead article is so blatantly unhinged that said, when i say 'owens at his peak' i'm looking at the last month of last year. we could use that. plain and simple. we dont know if he can keep that going for a full year, but thats why they play the games. if his peak is what we saw, i want that. i dont think there's anything wrong with wanting Quentin and Owens to both play. what good is Quentin's power when it's always solo jack city? as far as Owens' slap hitting, if he can steal 2nd at a high rate, i am fine with the slap shots. Owens cant hit lefties plain and simple, his numbers right now support that. He's a platoon player. Its nice to have some speed on the basepaths, but BA and Q both have speed to go from first to third, and both play plus defense in the OF. They both have higher ceilings and add more to the club. Owens would be a nice 4th OF'er, but thats probably it.
-
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ May 1, 2008 -> 12:14 PM) Jerry Owens being as absolutely good as he can be -- at what he does best -- would be exactly what this team needs. few would dispute that. Actually few would support that. He's a slap hitting 4th OF'er, injecting a nook logan or a Joey Gathright into this lineup isnt going to do anything positive to the lineup.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 06:01 PM) Masset did his job - he kept the Sox in the game. The Sox lost because of the offense, not the pitching. Our swing man keeping us in the game like that is giving us ALOT actually.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 07:29 PM) Yes, cause where would he play? Of course, if KW made the brilliant move of trading Crede when his stock is sky high, then I would be thrilled! Konerko may be hurt more that they are letting on? Who knows? Fields is by far our best hitter at AAA, but I would suspect Owens would be called up first.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 09:21 PM) Again, if someone is so drunk they can barely get behind the wheel of a car and dies in an accident, I say alcohol was the cause, not a neck fracture from hitting the windshield, not a stupid decision they made. If someone is baked and gets in a car accident, you claim that pot did not cause it. You claim someone can die from drinking. If they are really drunk and aspirate their own vomit, choking to death, you would claim they died from vomiting, not drinking. It makes no sense. You can be high, but if something bad happens, never ever blame it on the pot. Pot is the perfect drug, and nothing has ever happened to anyone because of pot. If that really makes sense to you, great. And once again, I am in favor of decriminalizing pot, I've never said it was more dangerous that anything, or was so terribly bad for you. But I am realistic to know you shouldn't be driving or operating machinery when you are high. Your reflexes are much slower and accidents are more likely to occur. If you are high and get in an accident you would have avoided if sober, then common sense tells us that the cause of your reaction time slowing is the cause of the accident. No, you can actually drink until you die, its called alcohol poisoning and you dont necessarily choke on your own puke. That argument can end here. We both agree that its impairing to the user and you shouldnt be driving or operating or anything of that sort, I would NEVER claim that it doesnt impair you. Basically if we are going to legalize and regulate any "drug" for the purpose of altering someone's mind, for relaxation or social reasons like alcohol, cigarettes, or even for medicinal purposes like vicodin, Marijuana has by far the least side effects, long term damage, and total danger of impairment. Alcohol's main dangers are the damage to the body long term, and the threat of actually overdosing. Marijuana has no addictive effects, has no danger of overdose, and the long term health effects are much less than other regulated substances. I never said it should be legal for all consumption, but if we are categorizing drugs that COULD be legal and regulated, it is probably the least damaging to us, with some actual positive effects.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 04:24 PM) Yes to both. Great example, imagine if I argued that guns do not kill anyone. People bleed to death, but the gun didn't cause them to bleed. And if they make a decision to shoot themselves, it isn't the gun that killed them. I know its a great example of h ow black and white your arguments are. If you thought of guns the same way as weed, guns have the potential to cause harm to someone but its the person who causes harm, not the gun itself. Your argument would be the simple use of a gun is wrong because it may have the possibility of hurting someone in a bad situation. Any way you slice it there have been zero reported deaths in the history of the US directly related to marijuana use, it may have contributed in a bad situation, but you cannot die simply from the use of it.
-
QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 04:01 PM) I see you added. If the substance you take alters your judgment or mood, thereby affecting the decision, I don't see how you could give the substance a pass. XYZ drug makes you hallucinate, you make a decision while hallucinating to fly, you die while jumping off the roof. I would have to blame the drug. Now if you made the same decision while on a drug that does not impair your judgment, then I would agree. Are you a gun owner by any chance? Or a gun advocate?

I think Tim Meadows says it best.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 02:46 PM) So there are no drunk driving fatalities? Drunk drivng never caused a fatality? Because based on your defintion, that is what you believe. The rest of society understands when you are impaired and die in an accident, that impairment, caused the accident. You are right, it could be a contributor to a death, as well as many other factors, cell phone talking, radio changing, being a woman. This is all very true, but its not the drug that killed the person, its their decision to perform an activity while impaired, its their own decision and their own stupidity, not the drug itself. But you can also die from alcohol alone, you can literally drink until you die, which is what separates it from Marijuana.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 03:39 PM) It's not that they lost 3, its the way that they've looked losing three. Its been close games that havent gone our way. It sucks, but it happens.

QUOTE (SoxWS05 @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 03:37 PM) So you want a guy who can't hit or run hitting 5th everyday? I don't. Bottom line, JD needs to go. He's still better than your prime example of a speedster.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 08:30 AM) If you really believe that being high has never caused someone to have a fatal accident, that's wonderful. Keep posting, I crack up every time you start this rant. listening to the Sox game has probably caused someone to have a fatal accident, nice correlation keep it up, its hilarious. Heres a nice page going over the causes of death, with sources. http://www.drugwarfacts.org/causes.htm http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/misc/downshow.htm
