May 6, 200817 yr Nothing really. 2nd base is the only possible spot to upgrade, and I really hope they don't get Brian Roberts. As Boers and Bernstein frequently say, KW signed up for the same offensive structure as last year when he re-signed Dye, and decided to keep the 3/4/5/6 all together. I won't even go into how pathetic OC is.
May 6, 200817 yr Whether or not it's his fault I care not...at this point, the only reasonable move, given that you can't just change 6 slots in the lineup, is a new coach.

I'm with you. I don't know enough about the inside and outs of baseball to tell you if this is Walker's fault or not, but this offense has been slumping way too long and something has to change. KW decided to basically stick with the same players, so the coach has to go. Maybe the same stuff with a new voice will work. You cannot have this strong of pitching on a trip and have nothing to show for it
May 6, 200817 yr You fire Greg Walker and Mike Gellinger. In the interm you make Harold Baines the interm hitting coach, you attempt to lure Hrniak to assist Baines. In the offseason you hire a proper hitting coach.
May 6, 200817 yr I am usually not with the reactionary crowd, but I have to say, I think Walker needs to go. The approach this team has taken to hitting has sucked for years now. Even with the changed talent this year, it started well, but then seemed to go downhill once things got going. No, this team is not like the 2007 team, in terms of players or talent. But the offense is going into a coma again, and the hitting approach is terrible. No one is adjusting. That tells me they aren't getting good data from the hitting coach to work with. Fire Walker, put Baines at hitting coach. Heck, AJP is the only "core" guy from last year that seems to have improved his hitting, and he was working with Baines over the winter, not Walker.
May 6, 200817 yr 1) you fire Greg Walker 2) you hope that Richar comes back healthy... soon... and cut Uribe and take your losses 3) you give Nick Swisher a few days off to get his head clear 4) you send Alexei Ramirez down to AAA and call up Jerry Owens 5) you sit Thome against LHP starters (putting Dye at DH, move Swisher to RF and start Anderson/Owens in CF) and PH him in later in the game if needed

May 6, 200817 yr Another thing...I'd also like to see more rest given to a lot of people. Swisher and Cabrera and Thome come to mind immediately. Thome's had 1 day off this season, Cabrera's had zero. Dye's only really had off days when he's been hurt, Konerko's at least gotten an extra mental day or two.

May 6, 200817 yr QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ May 5, 2008 -> 09:04 PM) 1. Fire Walker 2. Call up Getz, Fields, and Owens. Owens LF Cabrera SS Quentin RF Dye DH Swisher 1B Crede 3B Pierzynski C Anderson CF Getz 2B OR Owens CF Cabrera SS Quentin LF Dye RF Swisher 1B Fields DH Pierzynski C Crede 3B Getz 2B Either one of these lineups is better than the one they've been trotting out for the past two years.
May 6, 200817 yr Until you fire the GM that built this mess, not much constructive change will occur. I give KW credit for the pitching, but this offense makes last years look like the '27 Yankees. This season is already lost, can't win with no offense, especially in the AL. Too bad we didn't realize last year our team showed it was old, and it wasn't a fluke year as many thought offensively. May 6, 200817 yr QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 5, 2008 -> 07:27 PM) Either one of these lineups is better than the one they've been trotting out for the past two years. So basically, replacing Thome and Konerko with Owens and Fields/Anderson is a big positive change and puts out a "Much better lineup than the one they've been trotting out"? (Getz/Uribe is more understandable).

May 6, 200817 yr QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 5, 2008 -> 07:31 PM) Yep. For a couple games, to give them some breaks or for more favorable matchups (i.e. Thome sitting against Lefties more often) I'd agree. But you're never going to convince me that replacing Konerko and Thome with Anderson, Owens, and Fields in some combination is going to give us a more effective offense this year.
May 6, 200817 yr QUOTE (Soxpranos @ May 5, 2008 -> 09:10 PM) I like number 5 the most, good post. Sure if you ignore the fact that you're sitting Thome, who is feeble against LHP, in favor of Anderson/Owens, who only hope to be feeble against LHP on their best days.
May 6, 200817 yr not sure what the answer is but wow something needs to happen and soon, we are wasting good pitching. If this goes on for about another month then I'm gonna steal what was said a lot on the bulls talk board and thats play the kids. Lets get rid of some of our aging vets while we can still get some quality players back (build our farm back up). As much as I love Credes clutch performances this year id love to see him go even more, I wanna see Fields up here cause hes our future and from the looks of it we need to build towards our future. I'd also get rid of PK and then move Swish to 1st and put Jerry Owens in CF. I'd even go as far as trading Dye and moving Quentin to RF and then putting Brian Anderson in LF. Try something new at 2B either Getz or Richar (remember im saying do all this if the O still sucks in about a month, Richar should be back by then correct?). with all those moves id make the lineup look like this 1. Owens 2. OC (i wanna believe he'll turn it around) 3. Quentin 4. Thome 5. Swisher 6. Fields 7. AJ 8. Anderson 9. Getz/Richar on a side note while i was looking at the AAA stats where in the hell did Wes Whisler come from??? 5-0 1.26 ERA???
May 6, 200817 yr Ranger said he got a text from Toronto. It said changes are coming. Only thing he mentioned was Uribe
May 6, 200817 yr QUOTE (frankie5angels @ May 5, 2008 -> 07:43 PM) Ranger said he got a text from Toronto. It said changes are coming. Only thing he mentioned was Uribe Was it him speculating on the word Uribe, or is Uribe being punished for being the only guy in the lineup who got 2 hits today?
May 6, 200817 yr There are many wild speculative ideas out there. How do you trade 12 or more underperforming position players in one day?
