QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 10:34 AM) Couldn't of said it better myself. Way too many Yankee fans there. They are as annoying as Cub fans. Please, go back to New York. As for Uribe, well. Swinging on the first pitch with the bases loaded. I have nothing to say other than we really didn't have any better options on the bench. Anderson? Alexei? Against Joba? OK. Most of those people arent from New York, and probably have never been there in the first place. I DID like the guy behind the plate though that kept telling Cabrera the count and that it didnt look good for him. "0-2 Melky, it doesn look good."

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 08:41 AM) If nothing else I was happy to see the Sox approach at the plate looking WAY better last night against Wang, than it ever has before. They really got his pitch count up, but just couldn't deliver the knockout punch early. The other nice thing was that Contreras really turned it around after a bad couple of early innings. The Count looked decent last night. If we play like that all the time we will win alot of games. I saw 3 Hr's knock us out of it, and 2 of them I personally thought were just nice swings to LF.

QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 08:03 AM) Last nite a big problem was the #2 hitter-2 meaningless singles, zilch when runners on base. He's not that much better than Uribe offensivly at this point Actually he's probably twice as good.

QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 03:01 PM) I do vaguely remember watching that show and liking it, though it was short-runned. I was younger though; I'd probably appreciate it more now. Its pretty good, Jason Segel is hilarious in it. I still think Always Sunny in Philadelphia is the funniest shot on tv though.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 10:40 PM) Thin Crust >>> Deep Dish....there I said it. Could be true in some situations, but NYC thin crust pizza is awful. Last time I was there I went to the Original famous original #! etc etc, Rays pizza. It might as well been sbarro. Chicago has plenty of GREAT thin crust pizza like Aurelios, Dags, Rosatis, etc.

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 08:50 PM) The gong is a Chinese instrument, not Japanese. Japanese dont use gongs?

QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 07:21 AM) Funny it was mentioned in this thread, I've been on a HIMYM fix lately--watching the older episodes online. I've been a fan of the show, but I'm not sure I saw much of the first season--so I'm slowly getting myself totally up to speed. Its good. If you like that you may also like Undeclared which has some similar humor.

QUOTE (Steff @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 02:30 PM) Out of everyone on the team, I would say Paulie is the best actor. Kids have made you cryptic.
-
It's not so much how he's pitching now that will show how far he's come, its his next start after the one where he gets roughed up. He hasnt dealt with huge adversity yet this season, thats the true indicator of a pitchers mettle.

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 02:18 PM) Looking at this thread reminds me of Shingo's gong music at the Cell. Not exactly classy, either. I dont see how playing a native instrument is as racist as bring back an old Asian stereotype on a tshirt. Maybe if we showed a picture of a squinty Shingo with a speech impediment ringing a gong.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 10:27 AM) This is all I can agree with. Sorry THE comedy club to end all comedy clubs is in chicago.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 09:51 AM) Eat pizza Gross. New York pizza is basically Sbarro's. I was just there and pretty much just walk around and take it in, especially if you dont live in a big city right now. New York to me isnt all that impressive, but I guess thats what living in chicago does to you after time. Still, its nice to walk around from Tribecca north to Soho, by little italy, greenwich, east village, lower east side, upper east side and the park. its alot of walking but you can see the distinct areas of the city and the different attitudes and population.

QUOTE (the People's Champ @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 01:01 PM) I have always liked Konerko, but I have to admit, lately his "ho-hum" attitude has really been wearing on me. You don't have to be balls to the wall all the time, but some occasional emotion would be nice. Ha, out of everyone on the team, I would say Paulie takes failure the hardest.

Im not so sure Alexei is an upgrade offensively.

QUOTE (Cowch @ Apr 20, 2008 -> 03:39 PM) I absolutely hate Wang. Me too. I've always been interested in girls and their assets....... In all seriousness, we need to continue to get on base like this, work counts, and hit in situations. If we do that, I think we have the arms to get us through some of the tougher teams.
-
Danks getting grounders, our hitters are working the counts. I just hope we have the same approach when we play a team like the Yankees. I want us to consistently get into other teams pen's and continue to walk at this rate.
-
In all seriousness. Take a look at the ground balls Danks has been getting, it has totally elevated his game. With that cutter he now leaves his curve as a spot out pitch which has really made hitters have trouble against him.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 20, 2008 -> 02:35 PM) They have decent long men in Lieber and Hart (Lou's been pulling his starters very early so far). Wuertz is a solid reliever, as righties suck vs him. Hopefully Howry continues to suck. So far, they've made the right choice in moving Dempster to the rotation. Lieber huh? Hart? Come on. Dempster will be out of the rotation by the end of the year. They are a tall midget in a bad league. Playing the Pirates over and over seems to help.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 20, 2008 -> 02:29 PM) Their pen is very good, as they have the great equalizer in Marmol. Why do you think their pen is bad? Marmol and who else? Wood is shaky and is oft injured. Its very thin, and if a starter gets knocked out early their pen shows it weakness.

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Apr 20, 2008 -> 12:22 AM) unreal, what's the point of this? if this somehow blocks wasserman i'm going to be pissed Uh, they got him back because he was a rule 5 guy and didnt stay on the A's. Basically he's back in our minors. Not sure where you pulled him blocking Wass out of.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 20, 2008 -> 01:20 PM) At least Gallardo looks strong today. This Cubs team is pretty damn good. I disagree, their pen and rotation arent very good and the offense is basically a three to four man show.

Kalapse, great research. I only knew the 3 years 9 mill. Crazy. Shows that it cant be THAT bad of a deal.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 08:49 PM) I think it's silly to root against Owens. Absolutely fine with him coming up here and being the 4th OF. I prefer Brian Anderson who is a plus defender.
