QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 02:15 PM) I know your angle, but people can be too wasted to drive. It is a drug, it can cause impairment, it can cause an accident. Cell phones have proven more dangerous while driving than Marijuana.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 02:08 PM) at that point the argument would probably shift to your behavior at the time of arrest, wouldnt it? People who refuse breathalyzers have to then argue against the police officers evidence of impairment (failure of field sobriety tests, erratic driving, smell of alcohol, etc.), why couldnt an officer present evidence of THC impairment? I dont know, to say that a breath test would prevent legalization seems like it is simplifying it too much. What the hell would a field sobriety test be for detecting if you were high? See if you can finish a bag of cheetos?

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 01:52 PM) Until they come up with a breathalyzer for pot, it won't happen. Need to be able to gauge the amount of high for driving just like we can gauge the amount of drunk for driving. They wouldnt need to, Pot doesnt impair your driving nearly to the point that Alcohol does. There are many prescription drugs that impair people's driving more than pot and there is no breathalyzer for that either.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 01:24 PM) Less harmful then say carrots? Less harmful then water? Unless you are going to argue that pot is beneficial, these comparisons are meaningless. It has many medicinal beneficial uses without many of the dangerous side-effects of prescription drugs. Marijuana is useful in treating pain, nausea, appetite loss, it acts as a sedative and reduces anxiety. For MS victims it helps reduce the painful spasms that plague their nights, and also reduce the burning feelings in their limbs that no other painkiller seems to have the ability to do. Spinal cord victims have experienced a reduction in discomfort and pain, and glaucoma sufferers have about a 65 percent chance of reducing the intraocular pressure that causes a majority of the damage, no approved drug can claim that success rate. Anxiety is one of the realms that Marijuana is just entering these days with the increasing abuse of anti-anxiety drugs like xananx and the over diagnosis of said conditions. Marijuana is shown to decrease anxiety at a similar rate without the extreme addiction and without many of the side effects, and with ALOT less risk of death.

More deaths attributed to tylenol last year than Pot. Has anyone seen the show intervention on A and E? Im still waiting for the one on Pot. So far ive seen meth, coke, heroin, vicodin, oxy, alcohol, eating disorders, etc etc. Never one on Pot. You know why? Because the addiction rate is lower than many legal drugs, the effects arent as mind numbing as alcohol and prescription drugs, and you CANNOT overdose on marijuana.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 12:46 PM) At least we know one thing, if the Sox don't win 95 games this year, its Brian Anderson's fault. You are such a drama queen. Why exaggerate everything that everyone says to try and prove your point?
-
QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 10:42 AM) I have to say I agree with DA on this one. What happened in 06' was certainly not Brian's fault. And if you want to blame bringing in Erstad on Brian, you should blame it on Kenny, because Brian came to play last spring, beat out Erstad, and then was still not given any real role on the major league club. I dont think anyone in this thread said that the team didnt make the playoffs in 06 because of Brian. But his lack of performance on the field in 06, his attitude problems and lack of preparation put the Sox in a position where they had to try and search for a Cf'er that was more professional in his approach and could possibly put up an OBP over .300.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 05:46 AM) Carlos Lee? I guess he wasn't above average in the field, but he was average enough. The ass in me kind of wants Carlos Quentin to suck balls because I don't understand the love here. A short clip of statistical averageness and there's a cream fest for him. I mean, yeah, I hope he's Babe Ruth out there... but... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Statistical averageness huh? You are straight dealing from zero knowledge, not a good position.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 07:54 AM) I agree with you. There have been plenty of rumblings about his defense not being very good out there, and even during the winter, talk of his going to Charlotte to start the season. Even Hawk and DJ kept talking about how he hit the fastball, but I didn't hear anything about his hitting a breaking pitch. I get the feeling Ramirez will be the kind of guy to hit .400 in April and then .100 in May, when everyone starts throwing him off speed stuff. If he doesn't play good D, what is the point of having him out there if he is htting like that? He actually has shown flashes of being able to hit the breaking pitch in games lately. As ST goes further along, pitchers work on their breaking pitches and A-ram has already shown he can take those pitches to LF. His gap to gap power, speed, and versatility is a must on this team IMO. He bring Pablo-esque flexability at a younger age, with more power and ability at the plate. I really hope he just continues to progress. He COULD be our starting SS next season.

I used to be a huge Crazy Horse fan because they had the best lapdances around, but the new owners havent brought in any good talent lately. The last few times ive rotated between Cheetah's, Treasures, Olympic Gardens (not the classiest), even paradise. Ive heard the Vu isnt bad for full nude, but havent been there. Ive heard good things about Eden but havent been there.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 06:00 PM) You're forgetting the 2nd half of 2005, where B-Mac pretty much dominated. Do you remember the game in Boston for example? It's not B-Mac's fault that he was moved to the pen suddenly in 2006, something that he had never done before, and didn't get regular work, therefore he struggled. Last season in Texas, when he was healthy, he had decent numbers, Texas is a horrible park to pitch in. B-Mac performed better when he was up with the Sox in his 1st season than Danks did IMHO. Of course he had to make some adjustments and was down at Charlotte for a bit. That's why if B-Mac was 100% healthy, I'd take him, because when he has started and he has been healthy, he has produced. That's why Jon Daniels traded for him. So, you're basing it on 5 starts in the second half of 05? Thats your prerogative then. And US Cellular is alot harder of a park to pitch in. So im not sure how thats an excuse. He still hasnt pitched an entire season in the majors, or shown he can stay healthy enough to do so. I believe Danks would have been able to if they didnt try their best to save him for his next seasons and frankly keep him healthy. I think Danks pitched extremely well a year early, in the toughest division in baseball at a hitters park and I think his apparent durability, his ability to learn new pitches for his arsenal quickly and his overall repertoire (plus curve, plus change, sneaky fastball, cutter) make him a better pitcher now and into the future, and thats why KW traded for him. -

QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 10:22 PM) right but the point is just about playing 2b. How much harder can MLB second base be....than Cuban second base? The hardest hit ball down there must be as hard hit as here. The hard slides... well, that would be about the only issue i could think of. If he's hitting the cover off the ball all spring, I think you look past it and give him a shot opening day. How different can high school 2B be vs minor league second base? Speed, handling, turning 2, knowing situations, lots of stuff.
-
Well, I would ask why all of our AA and AAA players arent on major league rosters to answer your question, because thats about the talent level of the cuban league.

QUOTE(joesaiditstrue @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 08:33 PM) ah, i see. so this team puts childish vendettas ahead of fielding a team that's actually trying to win games. rgr that. i don't give a damn about BA's attitude, if he was the better playing in 07 ST, then he should've been given the starting job, barring anything that would warrant the most absolute disciplinary matters (PEDs, illegal activities, etc) Actually they put his MLB stats and preparation ahead of meaningless ST stats. His .225 ba sub .300 OBP was most of what did him in. -
yeah dude, shoot your girlfriend, you can go to jail where there are even less chances of you finding another one. I dont understand the emotions of people these days, I blame genetically engineered foods and chemicals found in containers....and tv

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 06:48 PM) Erstad 2007 ST - .300/.329/.388/.717 Anderson 2007 ST - .308/.393/.462/.855 and then, upon calling him up, he never played him (19 plate appearances in the entire month of April) That to me is throwing him under the bus. so after he threw himself under the bus, he got thrown under the bus? His performance and attitude was one of the reasons we even went out looking for another player. All he had to do was act like a professional and perform, he admitted himself that he is now actually focused. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 06:11 PM) Nelson Cruz wins it for the Rangers on a walk off. Matt Anderson takes the Loss. The real sox won, bench and garbage relievers lose. Pretty good game by us. Good hitting by some of the younger guys who have a future on this team, not a horrible pitching showing by guys who can make this team. -
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 06:04 PM) You are comparing apples to oranges as Anderson had the pressure to play CF for the defending world champs whereas Owens came up and played during garbage time and still had to have a great September to beat Brian's 2006 OPS+ by a whopping 2 points. You mean having one of the best performing offensive teams in the major leagues around you and basically zero pressure to carry any sort of the offensive load vs a guy who played half a season and outhit the other player by 43 points of batting avg and 34 points of OBP?.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 06:05 PM) Oh, I see. We're limiting discussion to those who only have a handful of at bats and are barely different and both suck in that small time and of course those are the only numbers that are allowed in the discussion. Okay, as long as you're relying on such reliable numbers, I guess I have no counterargument. Or you could compare a veteran to a second year player who came up and played about a half of baseball, that makes sense. I mean, why wouldnt it?

QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 05:59 PM) It's more a question of if he's making progress with his previous weaknesses or if he's just cleaning up on bad pitching right now...and that's analysis that I hope our coaching staff is figuring out right now. I believe it will be one of the most crucial decisions of the offseason. Brian has hit in ST before, but it appears right now hes raking and walking in a different way. I personally hope it means he's turned the corner. Brian in CF would contribute so much more than Owens would its ridiculous.
