  1. QUOTE(Chombi @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:51 PM) Add on top of that that they got Dontrelle, who could very well put up Cy Young numbers again and it is very disheartening for the Sox and the fans. There is nothing "delusional" about anyone who sees that point of view, just as there isn't anything wrong with your opinion. Until he walks out there, it is going to remain an opinion and both sides have legit backing to theirs. I dont know how you can equate the ability to win a cy young, with a player who has a downward trend of both ERA, WHIP, and BAA and is moving to one of the best offensive divisions in baseball. In fact, Miller was better than he was last year with the league adjustments.
  2. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:48 PM) Thome is better than Sheff, too. Sheff's name is going to be on top of the Mitchell report in the next few weeks.
  3. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:46 PM) Rock you and I know that Kenny is "going for it now." If he really wanted to rebuild, Dye would of been traded late last season. Kong would be gone sometime this week for a package. And we would be fielding offers for some of the older players on the team for major league ready guys ala the Twins. We are not building around a young core right now. We are adding a few young players to an old core. And if he really wanted to go for it now, he wouldnt trade 3 of the arms competing for the rotation and our starting 3B, when he could keep their production and add an impact bat for just money without losing any thread of young talent we have left.
  4. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:41 PM) That helps us how. We are built if you wish to use that term to compete now. With all of the post 30ish players on this team. Its now or never. Kenny burnt the farm already to get to this point. Having the Tigers burn theres is going to make for some company down the road when Minny reloads. We are between two points and we will wind up with another medicore to s*** season. Compete now? Thats prob the funniest thing ive ever heard. There was never a hope of us competing this year. Our only hope is to build on this young core and hopefully add a couple of impact players. But to expand on your point. Would this team be better next year WITH Danks, Fields, Possibly Gio and Floyd, and signing Andruw Jones in CF or Just Miguel Cabrera and 2 or 3 major holes in the rotation, and no 3B? (given the crede trade)
  5. QUOTE(bmags @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:39 PM) this is my thought. When I heard about DET yesterday trying to acquire them I thought we were gonna try and do whatever to block it, but I mean they gave up their amazing farm. Unfortunately, with their farm gone, they are still in pretty good shape with a young granderson and a young cabrera to build upon. And alot of older players, and prob a now staggering pricetag for Mcab.
  6. QUOTE(daa84 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:38 PM) it was reported by alot of outlets this morning that they were discussing it, but it was believed they were far apart still...i guess they were alot closer than we realized And somehow we get involved and detroit has to give up 4 more players........hmmmmm
  7. QUOTE(That funky motion @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:36 PM) What if it wasn't as close as everybody thought, and Kenny drove up the price for Detroit. Probably more likely, we cannot even come close to the prospects that detroit had to shell out.
  8. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:31 PM) I think KW just got his clock cleaned... by Detoilet no less... How did he get his clock cleaned exactly? We dont even know if we were even in on the bidding, it could have been fodder by Fla. We also dont even have close to the top tier talent that Detroit just gave away. You cant buy a 50 dollar steak with 10 bucks, no matter how great you think you are.
  9. So it looks like KW thought he had him and FLA used our offer to get Detroit to trade basically half their farm system, and probably also take crappy Willis. I sense KW is going to sign Jones at whatever cost, and prob try to deal for a pitcher and hope that is enough to take the division. Its gonna sucks getting lit up by Mcab for the next 7 years, but at least detoilet will have to spend a gazillion dollars on him.
  10. QUOTE(daa84 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:24 PM) rock whered you hear that...espn as in the tv station or internet site it was on the radio and someone said it was a blurb on espn hd, maybe we thought we had him, then the Tigers upped their initial deal to block it. I think we sign Andruw Jones in the next few hours though.
  11. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:19 PM) Where is this from Rock? radio on xm reported it. Havent seen alink except mlbtraderumors.com
  12. Detroit is retarded to add in that many players. MCab is a good haul, Willis will get lit up in the AL central and they would have been better off keeping Miller instead of taking Dontrelle. I still think this is rumor fodder. It was said in ESPN that the White Sox have an announcement coming up tonight.
  13. ESPN just reported that the White Sox are supposed to make an announcement regarding Cabrera....
  14. I honestly dont think its worth it to deal for him at this point. I kinda like the direction we are going here with building a younger core. Its time to be real. With the trade market and the FA market like it is this year, we arent going to be able to pull together enough pieces to win the World Series, and prob not even our division. Lets keep collecting some young talent for a nice new core, add to it, then wait for a better trade or free agent opportunity. As much as Miggy would help building a powerhouse team, it would cripple any sense of a minor league system at the top levels and would financially crush the team for the next several years if we signed an extension.
  15. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 11:38 PM) Unless Miguel Cabrera is joining the Sox, Fields is here to stay. why would the Sox trade an impact bat like his which is cheap for the next five years? Unless they get Miggy which they won't because other teams are offering far better talent, Fields is here. Crede will likely go in a salary dump move for a reliever or a couple of mediocre prospects. Don't expect much in return or you will be disappointed. If the Sox can unload Crede and Uribe to someone, then the Sox should have $20-25 million dollars to play with the rest of the off-season. Yes, a majority of the benefit of the trades will be the money saved, the players shouldnt impress all that much.
  16. You arent going to get an impact player like that for Crede, not gonna happen. We are prob looking at a fringe pen arm, or a utility type IF guy. Thats about it, at best.
  17. QUOTE(BearSox @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 06:05 PM) Dye is fine, but isn't a spring chicken, and is too slow for RF and needs to be moved to 1B or DH sooner rather then later. I'd gladly take Bay over him. Dye should actually be in LF with Quentin over in RF
  18. AZ fans only beef about Quentin is that he doesnt seem to be able to recognize or hit breaking balls, so hes like the anti-Fields
  19. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 11:56 AM) You are crazy. USC will destroy Illinois. Their offense is clicking on all levels right now, and should've been given the chance to play for the National Title. After the Rose Bowl, people will clamor for a +1 game (if not an actual playoff), wondering what would happen if USC played Ohio St or LSU. You really think a team that lost to Stanford deserves to play in a national title game?
  20. Sorry about the dup thread, blackberry internet didn't show a thread yet. Weird. I love this trade for us, we get a young talent who can walk for a player that won't contribute for years, and is basically a dh in waiting. Great deal, although I think kw is trying to flip him.
  21. Its been said in the media that matt murton is available on the cheap. I'd like to explore the possibility of dealing maybe a pen piece for him. His obp is a good fit, and he's been under utilized on the cubs.
  22. Winter meetingd quiet? Kw has made moves each of the last 3 winter meetings. In 2005 we scored 741 runs, not exactly indicative of having a solid offensive team.
  23. QUOTE(bmags @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 09:23 PM) I disagree that tebow is EASILY the best player in the nation. I think McFadden certainly is comparable. I think McFadden is the best in the nation personally. Huh? Is that hate for Tebow personally? He is having a season that no other player has had in college football
