  1. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 09:27 AM) On a side note. I am 35 years old and married and I went to a club the other day for the first time in a long time. I used to party hard at the clubs about 4-5 days a week. After going to a club, all I have to say to you young SoxTalk members: It's good to be a guy in his early 20s now a days. Wow, girls don't even make you try anymore. It's all there for the taking. Have fun! So is herpes, good luck with that.
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 10:26 AM) In reality, this is too early for Kenny anyway, if you go back and look at his history. he likes to let things shake out before he makes his move during the winter, and make his move early during the season. Like he said on Comcast last night, he has up until opening day to figure out his roster, nothing is definite right now. I think teams like the Rangers, Yankees, Padres, Angels, etc are going to start getting really desperate in the next few weeks.
  3. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 10:09 AM) Bingo! This is the first time Kenny has gone in on the sellers side, if I remember correctly. Usually he's the one being turned down. Now, he can go in and say, "So, you don't want to give us 3 of your top 3 major-league ready prospects? Okee dokee, it was nice meeting with you today. By the way, have you tried the turkey leg at Disney/MGM? It's to die for. Good day. I said good day." Egg-zactly, there is no shortage of people who want pitchers, especially ones who are making below market value. If certain teams do not want to give up alot of one of our guys, it benefits us more to keep our arms.
  4. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 10:02 AM) I'm not saying that Mark shouldn't command a nice package, but Pelfrey, Milledge, and Humber are their big three prospects. He can't move them all for one player, especially one with one year left on his deal and coming off a poor season. He wouldn't move Heilman and Milledge for Zito last year; he isn't going to move those three for Mark now. Then he doesnt get a pitcher, see how that works? KW doesnt need to make sure that the deal is even on both sides, because he holds all the cards. If the Mets dont want to do that deal, we move on to the next one. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 10:04 AM) There's only one problem with the Yanks trade....ARod doesn't want to waive his no-trade clause. It's too bad Ozzie had to open his big mouth last offseason. I havent seen that yet, is there a link?
  5. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 10:00 AM) Mets offer 6 years, $105 million to Zito Wow, the Yankees are going to get desperate.
  6. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 09:54 AM) This deal makes almost too much sense for both teams. I keep thinking that in spite of what we keep getting told about it. This isnt the first time they have met about this either in the last few weeks. Especially with Lilly, Meche, Zito, Schmidt, etc seemingly going to other teams, I could see the yankees wanting to deal for one of our guys. My fear is that it is Mark Buehrle. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 09:55 AM) There is not a chance in hell Minyana would do that deal, but were he to, I would take it and run as fast as I could- even if we had already traded Freddy to another team. Then he better start talking to Miguel Batista, because we dont NEED to deal our pitchers. This is what the market has become, and we can seriously rape a team with a deal like this. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 09:55 AM) Burls and BA for Pelfrey, milledge?? Still not enough value. We dont have to make a deal just to make a deal.
  7. People also need to understand that back of the rotation guys like Meche are going to command multi-year deals at around or above 10 million annually. The market for our pitchers is way higher than that. We arent going to deal Mark Buehrle for some prospect straight up. If we deal for spects, it better be 3 cant lose guys, including at leat two top pitching spects. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 09:52 AM) I would be shocked if KW wasn't demanding Pelfrey or Humber along with Milledge. Even NY papers seem to be agreeing that Milledge's stock has taken a hit in the past year. I would be shocked if he didnt ask for both, and not take the deal without it.
  8. I posted this in the other thread as well. It was reported on ESPN 1000 this morning that execs from the White Sox and Yankees met early this morning in the White Sox suite reportedly to discuss A-rod.
  9. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 09:44 AM) I don't know if this has already been posted, my apologies if it has. It's a Scott Merkin article about a rumored Mark for Milledge deal. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article...rtnered=rss_mlb One of the newest rumors making its way around the Swan and Dolphin Resort on Monday involved the movement of White Sox southpaw Mark Buehrle via trade to the Mets in return for outfielder Lastings Milledge. Yeah talk about not equal value. If we trade our Ace to another team, you better believe it will be for much more than Milledge.
  10. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 07:38 AM) No problem. No, I don't think he'd root for the Cards over the Sox in a head-to-head match up. But I think it is incumbent on any player on any team to show that all of his loyalty is to that team for as long as he is in the organization. Unfortunately, Mark has shown time and again that his heart is still with the Cards. He'd really love to play for them (he's said it time and again). That is a slap in the face to the team and to its fans. While you are a Sox, don't root for another team. Don't fawn over another team. Don't talk about how much you'd like to be playing for another team. Hahaha, Drama drama drama. I think its hilarious that you think its a slap in the face. If I played baseball, no matter who I played for, I would still be a sox fan. If say you wouldnt, then you are a liar my friend. Of course he also loves chicago, loves this team, and wants to stay. But...of course you know exactly what he is thinking at all times, so maybe im wrong......
  11. It was just reported on ESPN 1000 that the White Sox and Yankees brass met early this morning in the white sox sweet apparently to discuss A-rod
  12. Rob Neyer Speaking of the American League Central, it's been said more than a few times that White Sox GM Kenny Williams, flush with starting pitchers, might have more leverage this week than any other general manager. I would agree with that particularly if Williams and his colleagues have some realistic notion of Charlie Haeger's value. I've been promoting this guy since last spring, and I'm going to keep promoting him until he gets the chance he obviously deserves. Nutshell: Haeger looks to me like the best young knuckleball pitcher any of us have seen. He's 23 years old. Over the last two seasons, his ERAs ranging from Class A to MLB: 3.20, 3.78, 3.07 and 3.44. If he threw 90 miles an hour rather than 70, he would be considered one of the dozen or so best pitching prospects in the game. Did I mention that he's 23? And that most knuckleballers don't gain control of their key pitch until their middle or late 20s? If I were Kenny Williams, I would trade one of the guys who throws 90 -- because they have more trade value than the guy who throws 70 -- and give Haeger a slot in the rotation next spring. If I were not Kenny Williams, I would sidle up to him in Florida and try to find out exactly what he thinks about Charlie Haeger.
  13. I think BMAC will be a good pitcher, I really do. But his stuff makes me nervous sometimes.
  14. How many people have wondered what will happen if BMAC totally bombs as a full time starter.
  15. Something needs to happen for us in the next few days or I am going to go crazy.
  16. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 09:56 PM) After Grossman's performance today I'm resigned to our fate with him at the helm. What mertis Grossman's removal (even temporarily) if not for the last several weeks? Whether we're winning a Superbowl or exiting the first wrong, he'll likely remain the Bears' quarterback. I'm past the point where listening to people continually defend Grossman is funny. It has becoming downright annoying. If we're losing in the playoffs, and Grossman provides another turnover fest, there will be no more excuses. No one else to blame. At which point, Angelo can draft a quarterback early. In fact, he should do it every year until he gets it right. I don't even want to hear Turner's name mentioned anymore. Offensive coordinators work off their quarterback's abilities, not the other way around. Don't you people believe he would have enough sense -- considering he'll be let go before Grossman -- to structure new schemes if he believed the ones in place weren't working? Cmon, now. Grossman has limited mobility, trouble hitting receivers moving towards the sidelines, and this need to continually throw off his back foot. The latter is a mechanical issue which only he was fix. What I've noticed continually is people don't seem to hold Grossman's performance on it's on stature, but rather, compare it to the opposing quarterback. Such as, "Well, Grossman throw several INT's, but Brady didn't exact do well." Or, "you think Grossman did bad, look at Johnson." I don't see exactly what this argument accomplishes, other than pointing out how our top rated defense compares with another teams. Grossman, comparatively, struggles against defenses who are both strong and weak against the pass. Maybe the overriding connection among these performances is he's, well, not that good. Maybe NFL defenses have found out its easy to force him into making poor decision. I'm interested in having Griese start a game or two (depending on home field advantage), but only to rest Grossman's troubled little mind. When he plays in the playoffs, I don't want one f***ing excuse to justify his troubles. If one embarrassing game against Carolina influenced Angelo to address our cornerback concerns, it should hold true to Grossman as well. Ron Turner sucks and hasnt put his players in the correct position to succeed in the last several weeks. There his name was mentioned, and for good reason.
  17. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 02:16 PM) Ryan Sweeney is better than Pods, and he will play for the mimimum. Or the White Sox could use some of the money they are making by drawing 3,000,000 fans + all the extra revenues, and at least have a major leaguer in LF. Right now the starting OF of Pods at $2.9 million, Anderson at about $400,000 and Dye with his $1,000,000 kicker to get him to $7,000,000 is less than they paid Magglio Ordonez in 2004. In fact, its less than they paid their LF in 1997. Pods is not a good leadoff hitter. He doesn't get on base enough. He doesn't make enough contact, and he now gets thrown out as much as anyone in baseball. It also is petrifying watching him try to play LF defensively. So basically, there arent any. And please show me how Sweeney is better than PODS, I cant recall the full season of MLB baseball that Sweeney played.
  18. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 11:14 PM) 6'0 - 185 Large.
  19. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 01:52 PM) I sure wouldn't have resigned Pods. There are better Left Fielders then him out there. For the price? I would like to know who you are thinking of, thanks
  20. QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 01:39 PM) ESPN.com's winter meetings grid: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/hotstove06/n...tory?id=2684334 Gammons thinks Garland or Freddy might get traded. Jayson Stark thinks Freddy's going to the Angels. Jerry Crasnick has Freddy going to he Rangers or Padres. Phil Rogers thinks Joe Crede to the Angels. Gammons and Steve Phillips say, "Don't underestimate the White Sox." Im loving that people think we will make a good trade for our team, as it is just what we need. If KW pulls off something great, it will make this years disappointment fade in my mind
  21. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 12:18 PM) Is Rollins really a good leadoff hitter? Looking at his stats, his OBP is always around .335ish. That's pretty close to Pods territory. Rollins has some power, but I don't know anything about his defense. I'd like the Sox to get a leadoff hitter that plays 2B or SS, but I'm not sure Rollins OBP is high enough. Or that Philly would trade him for Garcia (I'd bet not -- although Garcia+Uribe+Fields might do it). AnywayI'd rather see the Sox try for young pitching with Garcia. Rowand for Anderson is a wash a best I think. Rowand may be better next year, but he'll cost something like $4M more next season. His OBP last year was around that, as a leadoff hitter he approached .350. But dont look at that as his value as a leadoff hitter, check out his runs created. Plus he plays good defense at SS.
  22. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 12:10 PM) While Gload doesn't have a lot of trade value, I think it is flat-out wrong to state that he doesn't have any trade value. I think a player who has shown he can hit .300 in the past with a 1-year deal making $600k has some value in this market. I think given the PT, Ross Gload could put up David Dellucci numbers, and he is making about 5x what Ross just signed for. He really doesnt have any. I agree, I think Ross could be Sean Casey with more speed, but at this point, he isnt even on anyone's radar for a bench player.
  23. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 12:07 PM) Burrell is due $27M over the next 2 years, has very real injury concerns, is 30 years old, has a history of attitude problems and owns a full no trade clause that's he's only willing to waive in order to go to the Yankees, Bo Sox or a West Coast team. ok, I was just throwing a name out there. Especially since he murders lefties.
  24. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 12:07 PM) was there actual video...I got so bored with words that were too small to read that I stopped it. I love "Leeroy Jenkins"... Yeah, they show this retarded funeral procession, then the a-holes running towards it and killing all of the characters, its actually kinda funny.
